It's pretty obvious I'm not an avid fashion blogger these days. I have found my life has many more important things going on than just what I'm wearing, which sometimes isn't even interesting.
I have many ideas and random things going on in my head, as well as outings I partake in, social engagements, music interests, anything and everything...mostly not even related to fashion.

I also am a fashion designer, so I deal with this everyday...I am not really interested in photographing my clothes these days.
Instead, I've found its best for me to just document my life from time to time, when I see fit, not necessarily on a regular schedule, or sometimes not frequently at all. But if you're still finding yourself somewhat intrigued by my going-ons about town and just what I do then feel free to stop by my online "diary" and read up on me.
I'll perhaps see some of you over there...if not, that's ok too--I promise I won't lose sleep over any of this.

Weekend Rewind: August 27-28th, 2011

Look me in the eyes and tell me you didn't see this one coming...
sooooooooooooo beyond obvious, I know I know!

The entire weekend I wore the same outfit, so we're not even going to break it down by dates really.
Let's just group the entire weekend of August 27th-28th, 2011 under one category, one name, one super awesome title:
"ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE weekend"
That's right; you know I live on the east coast, you know Hurricane Irene threated to rear her ugly face at NYC, and you should know I'm gonna give her ugly face right back!
I'm ready to go out in all my rock n roll glory!

We were a little frightened, not gonna lie.
So some of us single ladies got together to hold down the fort and brave the storm together...

We started at the bar, to get our game faces on!
(and to forget about the doom and destruction that lie hours ahead)
'Cause if you're gonna tell Hurricane Irene to, "F-off", you might want a little liquid courage in ya!

It turns out, NYers handled the storm preparation differently than others.
I went to the bar w/an umbrella...these two got ready for looting and mass chaos in the streets!

Then the rain started to come.
Out w/the umbrellas, and enough of their plans to loot.

These boys got down right emotional and busted out a bromance before our very eyes!

(oh what the end of the world won't do to two metalheads...
best sight I saw all day, I laughed naturally! DORKS!)

But I ain't got a romance; so I just kept on drinkin'

provoking Irene w/my hurricane-like dance moves,

and heading for safer shelter, rather than The Charleston...ok, so actually I just got hungry.

So while most of NY was preparing for the storm that threatened to DESTROY...

I grubbed on a homeade mexican feast of tacos and burritos!
And I didn't even have to lift a finger-cause this girl can't cook!
But to be fair, I did bring the produce...so thank you for cooking me dinner Tom, glad my veggies came in handy!

We all passed out watching True Romance, and awoke around 1:30am to the strongest winds I've probably ever heard in my life. Pounding rain and what looked like an upcoming zombie apocolypse...yikes!
I believe the eye of the storm lulled us all back to sleep around 2:30am...then up and at 'em come 9:30am on Sunday.

This is what happened!
OHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYY!

By "this is what happened", I mean I was up walking around Brooklyn in my pajamas at 9:30am. They were talking like we were going to lose our lives, so I think for strangers to see me in PJs is the least of our concerns here.

It is a well known fact, I do NOT take mother nature as seriously as one should. Hence the bubble blowing side ponytail wearing wannabe 12yr old I appear to be in front of this sign wreckage.
And, while I realize the hurricane was NOT nearly as exciting as I hoped it would be...I will say I am happy it did not really kill us.
It just kinda took down parts of our 'hood, but eveyrone in hipsterville seemed to make it out A-OK.

Including myself...
Phew...because we all want this "way too old to live in Williamsburg" almost 32yr old hipster to keep on bloggin' right?

I mean who else can you count on to pick up a storm wrecked dirty ol' street meter and put it up to her face with an "OMG" face???
You can continue to count on this one!
'nuff said!

So while the flooding was minor, and not nearly what it was in other necks of the woods,

and mostly our intrigue for damages got the best of us...

We are most definitely thankful the storm didn't result in the end of our awesome selves!

Because really, who else was gonna put on a "new" vintage motley crue tshirt and rock the weekend like a hurricane?
Um, certainly not Irene!

And yes, I went full force grubster this weekend...only showering 1x.
Sooooooooooo unheard of if you know my totally high-maintenance self
(true, i do look like i spend all of 10min on getting ready, but its more like 60-90min if you want to know the REAL facts)

And therefore, all weekend I wore this:

Daily Wear: It's still Rock N Roll to Me

This past weekend I headed off to Cleveland, OH to visit my BFF for her birthday.

We're a couple of rock n roll lovin' girls, so that's the way we spent her birthday...

like "Women Who Rock"!

We started out with a birthday lunch at our favorite hot spot, Johnny Mangos!

Their watermelon margaritas are to die for!

Yeah...nothing like a good marg to wash down my go-to Johnny Mango salad.

mmmmmm-mmmmm delicious!

Once properly fueled on alcohol, we took our rock lovin' selves to none less than Cleveland's

Rock N Roll Hall of Fame!

Besides being the bestie's birthday, this was the other reason I came to town...

no not for Johnny Cash's tour bus,

but for the new "Women Who Rock" exhibit

Although I'm fairly certain standing in front of this bus made me long for the days of yesteryear when I most definitely would've tried my hand at a little "Tiny Dancer" action, meaning I would've been a

"seamstress for the band".

Oh if only it were the 70's all over again!

But the Women Who Rock exhibit--wowzas!

I nearly peed in my pants as I stood face to face w/Joan Jett's "I Love Rock n Roll" outfit she wears on the cover of that very album.

(note to self, remember the "Bad Girl" tshirt is a MUST if I am to execute this upcoming halloween costume to 100% maximum perfection!)

Unfortunately, photos are not allowed in the exhibit areas.
Boo!

I only managed to finagle a pic of the lobby, nothing like some floating cars thru the atomosphere!

So may I suggest you all hop over to Cleveland sometime before February, and check out the Rock Hall, and specifically the "Women Who Rock" exhibit.
You will not be dissappointed!
Even if you aren't into the rock n roll, they've got plenty of music to please the masses...I got to see one of Gram Parson's guitars, some of the Flying Burrito Bros.' nudie suits, a few of Michael Jackson's costumes, Cher's infamous native american headdress and costume, and sooooooooooo much more!
It's awesome...I should know, I've been there twice and I will go back again!

But one thing to keep in mind...this is Cleveland!
No need to get all fancy-schmancy to go to a museum.

Daily Wear: Yeehaw Being the Theme

I'm a "theme" type...meaning I like themes, I embrace dressing like its a certain themeday, and yes...I will probably be that 50yr old lady wearing holiday sweatshirts at Christmas time.

But tell me, when did theme dressing ever ruin a night?

If anything, it makes the night more fun if you ask me!

Even a movie night can be wayyyyyyyy too much fun.

You know, like when you're planning on watching a documentary on Waylon Jennings, then rounding out the movie viewing with "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"?

THEME HERE BEING COUNTRY n WESTERN!

So can I get a, "YEEEEEE-HAW, Ya'll"?!?

Too bad we did not have cowboys and indian type glasses, but my friend did the best she could by busting out her newly thrifted equestrian tumblers.

Ummmmmmm, I think it must've been the horses...I really can't think of any other reason we'd equate these to being "western" like?

But wait...wait for it...ok!

You're completely allowed to judge me on this one...I may or may not have gotten wayyyyy too drunk on a bottle of appletini stuff!

Who am I?

And no, I do not think my life is like an episode of "Sex and the City", and no I do not relate to the quirky "Carrie" character...I don't even know about this show too much other than they drink crap like appletinis. And now apparently I do too!

Needless to say, the appletinis did me in...but not before I kicked up my heels and did a little dosey-doh. Afterall, I did dress "theme"-wise for my country musician movie night...

and duh, that means I busted out my vintage cowboy boots!

These are the real deal folks. They were given to me back when I was like 21...and they're still getting wear to this day! Probably actually I wear them more now than I did then.

They're my lovely little western gems, cherry red, leather, real legit cowboy booys!

I'm certain Waylon would've appreciated my efforts for movie night, no?

So tell me...am I the only loony lady that dresses around a movie night w/some made up theme dancing around in her head?

(theme here being country cowboy crooners whisking me off my feet and tossing me on the back of their horse and together we gallop off into the sunset, my red vintage boots and all...and of course, something like Waylon's "Amanda" will be the song playing as this dillusional idea all goes down).

It would be nice of you to at least humor me and tell me you do this as well from time to time.

(I mean dress around a theme, not dream about Waylon Jennings).

Music Monday: "Cherry Pie"and a Lil' Slice of "Heaven"

This Music Monday post is going to be about as surprising as the sad and untimely death of one of my hairband heros:
Jani Lane!

I heard the news when I got to work on Friday; and crazy enough, a flood of memories from the good ol' days of heavy metal kareoke at the Hi-Fi in Cleveland came rushing back.
If you know the Hi-Fi, you know the guys from Warrant have a close link to that fine establishment.
And if you know me, you know I have a special little place in my heart reserved for those memories.
It was there, and it was at heavy metal kareoke with a live band, that I got to be a little hairband hellion--oh to be 22 all over again!
(Yes, its true kids...I at one time in my life, sang in place of Jani Lane at a Warrant concert. I might just be the one and only former Kent City Kitten that knows all the words to "Cherry Pie", and Warrant may have requested the aide of my horrible vocals at that concert in Akron...poor Jani just happened to have pnemonia on that particular night; while it sucks for him...it was beyond rad for me!)

And just as you would expect, I paid homage to Jani this past weekend by lending one of my vintage tees to my friend, while I sported my other vintage Warrant tee.

So while Jani rose up to the heavens (I would hope), I rocked the heavens in my DIY crop top.
yeah that's right!

Unfotunately I did not have 3 vintage tshirts, or else Mel could've gotten in on the Warrant-good-times as well. Instead, she just tried to out-do me by wearing what she calls her "Tall Girl Shoes"...sorry friend, I'm still taller than you :)
And I'm in my Warrant tshirt, YESsssss!

So here you go kids; this here little blog post is my respects to Jani.

Anastasia of Beverly Hills & Wild as a Mink

Recently I was approached by a media team partnering up with Anastasia of Beverly Hills.

They asked me if I'd be interested in joining their Blogger Appreciation Program, and I was more than stoked to do so.

Anastasia is a skincare and cosmetics line based out of Beverly Hills. They are currently stocked at Sephora nationwide.

Music Monday: Outlaw Country

Its no secret I've got a soft spot for old county; me and the honky tonks-well if they were around here in NYC, lets just say you'd find me there 90% of the time.

A particular fondness for country lies within a sector known sort of by the name of

"Outlaw Country".

The term pretty much was given to the likes of

Waylon, Willie, and the boys...

Now you ask just who those boys are?

Waylon and Willie (shown above) were quite a dynamic duo!

Certainly you've heard this little #:

of which I'd say my favorite DAC song would have to be "Please Come to Boston";

my friend Garrett introduced me to this when she thought it was a good idea to embarrass me in front of a particular Nashvillian back in the day--good one, G!

(I can't thank you enough...I'd like to punch you actually! mortifying at the time-duh!)

Ok, so that is a horrible example of how rowdy these boys can be; but it truly is one of my favorite David Allan Coe songs, if not one of my all-time fave songs ever.

Along with him, you can toss in Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, etc and you've got yourself some OUTLAW COUNTRY!

But of all the country out there, my heart lies with one man...Waylon Jennings.!

He's got a voice like a god, the tales of a broken man, and enough stories to pull at heartstrings for days on end.

You wanna love this ramblin' man, but you can't hold him down.

He's a man on the go, lovin and leavin the ladies, bust'n out and break'n hearts!

He's the ultimate "Nashville Rebel"

No, really, he is!

Look how young and dapper he was...his voice makes me swoon but his "look"...

oh man oh man!

He certainly was a handsome devil...dressed with his slicked back hair, button up shirts, starting out in Buddy Holly's band, then goin' on to become his own man.
MEOW!

But can I just tell you, it wasn't these young man good looks that I go for.
Just like my thing for 70s Elvis...I've got a hankering for 70s Waylon.
This rugged, outlaw look, it suits him well
(and my taste too!)

This ain't no cat's meow...this is a mighty ocelot and its cat scratch fever!
I mean, seriously...did it just get hot in here?

I'd have to say clothing and appearance wise, something with his unshaven, slightly haggard self...the look works for him.

Vintage View #15

Hot on the trail of my last Vintage View, I bring you yet another vintage goodie!

This dress was purchased the same time as my last trip to Beacon's Closet.

While it reminds me more of a Fall item, which I know it'll get plenty of wear right into and throughout the tights wearing season, it was lightweight enough that I could give it a try during the summertime months.

Besides its ability to be versatile for the different season's, let's call it what it is:

SHORT!

And let's be honest with ourselves, or moreso with me, why did I get weak in the knees for this dress when I tried it on?

Um....because it is SHORT!

I'm a sucker for short...I love my legs, that's basically what I'm telling you

(PS girls-it's ok to love something about yourself, you don't have to beat yourself up about every aspect of your self image, I personally try to like one thing for everything i dislike..keep it balanced ya know? For instance I hate my gut, it never goes away, its been there-since I became well aware of it at the age of 5...but these legs, they've yet to hear me have a hateful thing to say about them...they very well could be my best friend! er...asset)

The worst part about this dress is I managed to rip it in 2 places the first time I wore it

sadface!

I caught it on my shoe when I was trying some dresses on at work, and bam RIP RIP.

Luckily my fashion girl skills came in handy and I whipped out my needle and thread and you're none the wiser...I dare you to try to point out the rips and my questionable stitching job.

Go ahead...goodluck.

This print and my "expertise" kinda mutually work together in this case.

Phew!

I can continue wearing the dress...right on thru tights season as I said before.

(When I say "courtesy", I do not mean it was free...although it might as well been it was such a steal.

I really just mean, "courtesy" as in, thanks to my eagle eyes I found this crap store).

Just goes to show I should not write off Chinatown and its fishy stank just yet...

apparently there's still some goodies to be found down there

(just not fake bags made by kids in Guanzhou. Ok so they're still down there too...I just refuse to buy them. Sorry Mom, sorry sister...ain't gonna support child labor or rippin' off the talented designers in my industry. Come visit me, and go there yourself!)

Vintage View #14

It's high summer here in NYC...meaning it's H-O-T out!

It's hard to look nice, stay cool, and keep composed in this weather.

I had a doctor's appt. the other day, and when visiting the doctor I try to look a little better than usual.

I don't want them writing anything "funny" in my chart such as I look battered and bruised.

(because I am bruised...I got to a lot of concerts where jabs are received, and sometimes fists and kicks come my way)

Somehow is this dillusional head of mine, I think looking like a lady in a pretty lil' dress will detour the doc's eyes from my usual haggard physical appearance.

-Side note, I did not achieve this goal...sure enough, as was the case at last year's exam, the doctor asked me about my bruises.

(I'm convinced she's written in my file to keep an eye out for possible domestic abuse--its true, sometimes I'm that banged up, but never in the face...and if it is anyone hitting me-well its my own fault, not someone else abusing me...let's just be clear.)

So ok, we've established:

A.) It's HOT outside,

B.) I tried to look like a lady and wear a dress, and

C.) I had a doctor's appointment.

Big fat deal right?

Right!

So let's talk clothes.

I got this "new" vintage dress at Beacon's Closet on Sunday.

I can't tell what decade its from, I'm guessing the '90s.

(Um, Dusty Rose...wanna help me out with this one?)

I was drawn to it due to the yellow nature, I like yellow...not enough people veer toward yellow.

I also really dig burnt orange-y browns mixed with Black.

So this dress was the whole shebang!

and it was cotton and airy and floaty...completely something begging to be worn in 90+ temps, no?

Overall, it was kinda an entire vintage outfit, but throughoughly workable for the modern day world.

-The purse if vintage from my trip to the Poconos last year

-The belt is vintage from my favorite thrift store in Ohio

-The shoes are vintage, or "gently used" at least, from Beacon's Closet a few years back

Yet, I thought I looked every bit a normal summertime present-day girl;

perfect for a day at the doctor's, even if it did not keep the "bruised" questions at bay.

I'm sorry I've fooled you for so long, but to be fair, I've fooled myself sincerely as well.

It's a huge blow to my "once upon a time tall-girl" ego!

Music Monday: 4 Knots Music Festival

Just in time for Music Monday,

I happened to go to an all day free festival/concert this weekend at the Southstreet Seaport.

It was the Village Voice's answer to having cancelled Siren Fest for good...so they were kind enough to bring NYers:

There were a few bands I wanted to see!
(check them out if you want something new, or maybe you've already heard of them if you're in the know...I am soooooo not "in the know"; I used my San Fransisco friend's music knowledge to find out about one of these bands, then some other friends told me about a few others...but a free show is a free show, and I'm all about free shows and discovering bands I didn't know existed.)

One such band I went to see was Davila 666 (this is the SF friend's suggestion from a few months back, Thanks Kristine!...they did not disappoint; although then again I watched from a balcony overlooking the stage because $5.00 pitchers of beer were calling my name in the hot summer heat, its rare when I stick around front and center for a band if $5 beer is available nearby)

Another band I happened to catch, actually as soon as I walked up they were already playing, was Eleanor Friedberger.
(Now I'll admit I didn't even know who this was, let alone go to see her, but I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed her sound! Further research told me she's 1 part of Fiery Furnaces, I wish I knew this kinda stuff beforehand...duh!)

This girl has some fun style, she's quirky and pretty (look at google images!)...what any girl strives for, right? ummmmm Ok maybe just me.

After a few more songs of hers, my buddy Jess and I walked down to the end of the Pier to check out the sights. You see, Southstreet Seaport is not an area of Manhattan I usually tend to frequent...um NO! Not my scene, just my scene for that day...mostly populated by the likes of tourists, sorority types (sorry girls if this is you, but its not my thing), and other douche-y characters I'd rather not deal with. (yes, I'm stereotyping the Southstreet Seaport "set", but I'll be you 9x out of 10, I've got it nailed!)

With that being said, I won't lie...its pretty nice; beautiful actually...breezy, sunny, and oh-so-nautical!

If only there was a Jack Sparrow on one of these ships, my little heart would've gone " pitter-patter! "
Bummer, no such luck!

After our little jaunt around the pier, a few $5 pitchers of beer, we went back down to face the masses that had joined the crowd since we were last down in the pit. We weaseled our way up front, just as any experienced cute concert goer should be able to do, and we had a great view for the band we came to see,
TITUS ANDRONICUS!

Holy hell...an electric violin...they were pretty darn good. A bit of a stupid mosh pit broke out but really what's that; like we can't hold our own ground when jabs are being taken and people are crowd surfing? Actually I just laughed while I shoved back, seriously ...people still do that? Maybe I'm old, but maybe I held up just fine against the youngin's...YEAH!

Oh geez...what a hot day in the sun, full of free music and cheap beer. It was just as I imagined it to be...and now I hope you go and listen to some of these bands, or the ones listed on the 4 Knots flier and tell me what you think. Good, bad, just not your cup of tea???

What about the Seaport, you think you'd hang out here? Yikes! um, sure you want to read my blog if you answered "yes"? Something about the financial district, going that far downtown, ewwww just BORING in my world. But to each his own right? I don't expect you to like my things, and you should not expect me to like the Southstreet Seaport enough to really go back. (oh wait, I spoke too soon...darn, I have to go back on 7/31 'cause the Raveonettes are playing for free down there...looks like I've got one more trip to get in under my belt before I call it quits w/the Seaport. wish me luck! It could be worse...I mean it could be TIMES SQUARE--eeek!)

Oh, just FYI, it was hot, I wanted to be comfy, that's about all I know with this outfit--short skirt, see through loose fitting top, Yep...cool and comfy (and somewhat questionable as always!).

We shoved our faces then we went home.
This has nothing to do with music, just the pizza is really good for being FREE! It looks gross, it is gross, but for free--its delicious!

Sooooooooo, ok...go listen to some music! Hope you like something I talked about...if not, what are you listenin' to???

Daily Wear: This Chick is Toast!

Last Thursday I went to the Brooklyn Bridge Park for a FREE outdoor movie.
These events require my friends and I (uh-hem, I mean the Downtown Dolls to be exact, er...actually one of the Doll's BFs in our case-Thanks MATT!) to get there wayyyyyy in advance to scope out prime real estate for our blankets and viewing needs. When I say, "wayyyyyy in advance", we're talking like 2.5hrs before the movie even starts (I mean look here, the movie started around 8:45pm, this is 6:45pm below...and I could only fit about 1/16 of the crowd into my camera's scope...WOAH!)

The movie at hand was none other than one of the most classic films of 1984, "GHOSTBUSTERS"!

So I took my bell-bottom wearin' self, with my gang vest on, and popped a squat on a grassy knoll with an angled view of the screen. It worked, and it was the best we could do for watching...but I'm not complaining.

Friends were there, as mentioned...some arrived early, some arrived late. Mel arrived in her new summertime WHITE gang vest...ooh-lala; I'm jealous actually! (first time for everything, as jealousy towards friends does not arise much out of me)

Snacks galore were there for the taking...I was partial to our friend Matt's plethora of goodness. He brought popcorn (took it upon himself to pop 3 bags of stovetop popcorn because he must know we girls have hearty appetites), Peanut M&Ms, granola bars...lets just say it was a way better selection than some crappy "popcorn chip" I picked up at my local grocer...I should've known there was a reason mine were 2 for $4.00. I fell for a sale! Of course I did.

And speaking of food...it reminds me of what I said to myself this morning as I made my breakfast, only because I told the gang at the movie I was going to say this...maybe I think its the best line in the movie by far,
"THIS CHICK IS TOAST!!!!"

So peace-out yo...

The Garrott Tee: Look #18-Sleepy Time

Apparently I should be FIRED...I've been sleepin' on the job or something like that. Sleeping on my job I'm doing for Garrott Designs that is.
Wasn't it part of the agreement that I post a new look each week using the "Without my Muse" tshirt from Garrott? Yes, yes it was...I'll admit that. I played "Rip Van Winkle" on us for the past few weeks; I was tired...what can I say?
Luckily, I didn't forget the lil' Garrott Tee and I put it to good use while I was snoozin' away.

Does it, or does it not make the perfect sleep shirt?

So one day I quit my yawning, had a cup of coffee, and found myself back on track...showing you that the Garrott Tee is great for sleeping.
Now, I went with a fitted tight version, I like fitted things when I slumber...do you prefer more oversized, like a boyfriend tee? Because Garrott's got you covered either way--just buy a size or two bigger than necessary and you got yourself a nightgown practically.

Anyhow, back to my preference...as mentioned, I like fitted shirts for snoozin'; maybe its so the girls stay where I want them to, maybe its just because I like tight things.
Tight, fitted tees, are perfect compliments for loose flowly pajama pants, or a billowy silky wrap...case in point, both pj styles shown here.

Happy Birthday America!!!!! July 4th, 1776--You're 235 yrs young! So in true American "fashion", I took my butt down to the tip of Brooklyn, any guesses just where I went?

I'll give you 3...3 clues, just look at these pictures and you'll know how I roll on the 4th of July!

Yeah that's right...my friends and I went to the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest...and it was rad as all get-out!
I've been once before, but this year I enjoyed it immensely! It was America in all its finest glory, hotdogs, brews, sunshine, and Americans just being American! What more can you ask for?

Being that I used to be a HUGE carnivore back in the day, I haven't quite given up those ways so I ate a hotdog, why not? It was really really good!

And I saw a man on stilts, oh wait, that's Uncle Sam, right?

I also had to witness some very questionable acrobatics, not sure these "pure" eyes should've been privy to that view...eek!

And of course...who are we not to hit up the beer garden? Especially when its a shithole sandpit called "Beer Island"?? um, amazing!

And what would you expect me to wear on such a holiday as the 4th of July? Last year I wore a cropped top American flag tee, so this year I simply could not do that again...instead I went just for the "rock'n out at the beach, on the 4th of july" look--by that I mean, trashy as possible.

If you've ever been to southern indiana during the summertime, this is something similar to what you'd find at this thing called "Thunder on the Ohio"--believe me, I was channeling my Indiana roots with these cut-offs for sure!

Boy oh boy...did I bring the heat to the beach! Is it hot in here, or is it just me???
bahahahahaahaha, um more like the sun was like someone opened a screendoor to hell if we wanna talk "heat"...I got some sun, it was freakin hot out there, i'd hope i got some color.

Regardless, with a lyric like this on the back of my vintage Poison tshirt, I'm going to bet I brought some higher temps with me as I walked too and fro.

So whatever you found yourself doing for the 4th, I hope it was fun. I hope you got to kick back, relax, and enjoy some ice cold beverages of whatever sort you prefer. Throw in a hotdog here and there...and that's a damn fine 4th of July.

Last weekend when Alex was visiting, I managed to remember my camera come Sunday morning for a lovely drunk brunch at Lovin' Cup.
Thankfully I remembered...how else could I have been so self obsessed to take photos of myself in the mirror? duh!

As per my usual breakfast preference, I chose an egg-y treat. The Sweet Jane Scramble to be exact.
And those are indeed TOTS on the plate...tots and a side of bacon, god I could go for that right now!

After brunch we headed to McCarren Park for some R&R and to-go margaritas of course. It's a novelty to the out-of-towners, and I thought it was a MUST that they partake in the fun of drinks in a public outdoor setting--the lid keeps it safe, totally NOT an open container, right?

Then of course, it was time for more pictures of ME.....did I ever tell you I would date myself? Yeah this is my motto these days, and i'm stickin' to it.
I mean who wouldn't want to date themselves if they acted as classy as I do? Everyone loves a girl re-enacting a moment of wetting herself, no?

Or one that throws all "ladylike behavior" out the window...

But really...lets talk outfit gibberish.

I love this dress, I always want to wear it, i usually forget to wear it, but alas....brunch was the perfect moment for it, and I not only remembered my camera, I remembered to wear the dress. It's a wee bit short, and the sleeves are too short as is usually the case with most sleeved vintage I buy. A quick roll of the sleeves solves that and makes it all the more cool and comfy in the hot summer sun anyhow.

No worries about the shortness of the whole thing...why that's where my trusty cut-offs come in handy. Throw my fave summertime staple under the dress and I can be as unlady-like as I damn well please!
Problem solved!!!!!!! And now I must go date myself...

Daily Wear: WOAH...What Happened?

When there's a friend in town you know I'm not one to sit at home...Hell NO! We go out, and we go out RIGHT!
Usually, being someone's first visit to the city, I love to overload their senses by taking them to this crazy Indian Restaurant, Panna II. If you ask me, it mostly just doubles as a fire hazard, what with all the chili pepper lights and all...but it also moonlights as a wonderful memory for my visiting friends to take home with them.

So, with Alex of "Alex's Wonderland" being in town to visit her college roomie, Sew Me Some Love, we took our wonderful selves to that very restaurant!
I hope the girls liked it...because its pretty tasty cheap food, and makes for lovely pics, no?

Of course if I'm going to be out and about, I need some of my regular partners in crime to help me rile up the townfolk and show the visitors a good time.

Colorado Vacay-Pt. 2: Mountain (wo)MAN

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy-oh!!!!!!! Part 2 of my Colorado getaway found me in the mountains. On sunday my sister's friend took us for a drive up Mt. Evans; its the highest paved road in North America--and man was it awesome!!!!!!

It was a whirlwind of different environments all in one day's adventure...from lakes and warm temps, to snowcapped mountains and a high of 35degrees at the top of the mountain.

It's blatently obvious I was not dressed appropriately as is the usual case with me.
We saw ice and then cacti, go figure...

And we were so high up my head was in the clouds!

I'm going to point something out to you right now...I did not shower beforehand; so there you go kids-this is what my gross self looks like when I am in the wilderness not really giving a crap if mothernature likes my au natural self or not.

This goes to show you however that I am one that MUST wash my hair everyday, or else I risk stringly ratty babyfine locks that just go limp. boooooo!

Based on these two photos, its clear my sister is the more practical one in my family--she was dressed in normal shoes, a fleece, and well here I was in 5" heels and shorts! brrrrrrrrrr is about all I can tell you I was feeling that day!

Regardless of my lack of good mountain attire, it was a wonderful time. I had a blast seeing all the beauty nature has to offer. It really is gorgeous...and a welcome view when you're used to nothing but pavement and skyscrapers. The only highrises I was seeing out in CO were the majestic Rocky Mountains, and man did I love it. Believe it or not...I do like outdoors stuff, nature, and yeah-FRESH AIR!

Being the girl I am however, a lot of outdoorsy stuff can really make me thirsty. So we drove back down the mountain and stopped at a roadside bar called Cactus Jack's Saloon.
Boy was I in luck...as we walked up there was live music, and a rockabilly band at that! Um...HEAVEN? Yes yes yes!

After our thrist quenchers (rum and diet for me), we headed to the Red Rocks to check out the legendary ampitheater. OMG, WOAH!!!!!!!!!!!
This place was insanely cool! You can stand on the stage and belt out tunes just to check out the acoustics, ya know?
Or you can challenge your unfit self to a quick stair climb...I would not suggest this, as I quickly found out my lungs could not handle the physical activity and high altitude. HOLY SHORTNESS OF BREATH, Batman!!!!!!

Really though, this place was rad...a 9,000 seat ampitheater built into the natural land formations;
ah-maz-ing!

At this point, the sun was setting, it was getting downright chilly, and I was done, and done! Mother nature wiped me out, I lost all fashion sense, and I was FREEEEEEEEEEEZING!
Lucky sis' friend let me wear his fleece cause he's a nice dude like that...always a fashion statement coming from this girl, eh?

There ya go...my Colorado vacation. It was a short 4day trip, but well worth it and much needed. The fresh air, friends faces, everything about it was PERFECT!
Sooooooooooooooooo yep, I'm ready to go back anytime someone wants to let me crash out there! Fun fun fun!

Colorado Vacay-PT.1: "WHITE WEDDING"

As promised, I thought I'd give you a little glimpse into my Colorado getaway I had this past weekend. The first and foremost reason I went there was because one of my longtime Kent State buddies was getting married...sometimes it is soooooooooooo crazy to think that I've known him since I was 18! And while we lost touch for a few years, it was a great thing to turn 30 because we both invited one another to our bday bashes and we became closer friends now than we were in college. Nonetheless I've always thought he was uber cool and fun to hang out with. But there you have it, what better reason to travel than for a wedding???

As a guest, with no responsibilities, I had it easy...just lounge by the pool, get drunk, and look semi-decent. I chose a dress that Showgirl Godzilla had given to me last year cause she had no use for it and it isn't really her size (we are two different body types for sure).

It's an elegant lil' # if I do say so myself, in a bold color-just the way I like it...I'm not one to slink into the background and be a wallflower as we know.

Being that the dress was a solid color I thought it was a perfect pairing to throw in a printed bag. I've had this furry vintage leopard clutch for ages--just another thrift store treat I picked up for myself back in the ol' college days...and its still getting use!

And of course, something so loud and tangerine/coral-y, as this dress, calls for GOLD accessories, a sky high pair of strappy gold shoes always does the trick.

Being as how I'm manless at the moment, I opted to take my sister...or moreso she opted to step in and be my +1 for numerous reasons. Thanks sis--you're the best!

The wedding was lovely as can be,
a cute cake which I eyeballed all night until it was finally time to dig in,

Myself and a new-ish friend (I had met her 2yrs prior at the 30th bday bash, and well we hit it off cause she's rad), chattin' it up before the ever so popular with the single ladies, BOUQUET TOSS (yet again, I did not catch it...gah!),

Lots of silly antics with Jolly Ranchers-certainly it had nothing to do with the open bar,

And just lots of friends, old college pals,
(must I say it again? I'm completely 100% "one of the guys", always have been and always will be)

Ones I've gotten to know thru the past 2yrs having become friends with the bride and all,
And the new-ish friends that are forever going to be my partners in crime at these types of things when we're all together! Aubri & Mark--you two are a BLAST!

That's what weddings are all about! Good friends, food, drink, and music...and lots of hilarious good times!
Love you two lovebirds, I had a wonderful time at the wedding and I still can't thank you enough for the invite! I'm glad I could be a part of it, because really it was one of the best weddings I ever attended!

Daily Wear: I gotta wedge!

I was away for a few days in CO for a wedding, so many pictures, so little time--but soon I'll have a little vacation post for you peeps--I think you'll like it, even though the outfits are lacking, the pics are divine!

But for now, let's settle for what I wore today (6/21/11).

A pretty typically easy summertime outfit for me. A little edgy, a little stark, a little simplistic...sure;
but c'mon,
did you get a look at those new peep-toe wedges I'm sporting?

Seriously, insanely gorgeous if you ask me...then again I'm kinda into everything I do and own and say and think...I'm full of myself, what more do you want from me? Hey, if I didn't like these booties, why would I have bought the in the first place-so really is it that narcissistic of me to say that my booties are gorgeous? (eh, no need for comment really, I know the answer)
I'm sure at least 50% of you will agree with me though, they're the shit! They clock me in at about 6ft tall, are easy and sturdy to walk in (I wore them in the mountains, yes I'm ridiculous, but yes they are really easy to walk in that's all I'm getting at), and the snakeskin surface adds a dose of texture that I just love.

In addition, I plopped on a few more pieces I tend to wear on a near daily basis: a pair of oversized sunnies, my fringe scarf (which is smelling like outdoor dog right now, and I still wore it...I'm not one to shy away from a dog scent, I just spritz on some perfume-it'll mask it, right?), and my fave little fringey wannabe rocker-girl purse.

And that's how I roll on a first day back to work after a mini-vacation. Easy pieces, a bright pop of color, and a great pair of architecturally sculpted peep-toe booties (of course making me one of the tallest girls on the subway--my goal each day!), makes for a great transition back to the real world of the "day job".

The Garrott Tee: Look #17-Leader of the Pack

I told you in my last post about my girl gang...Well I'm the LEADER of that PACK! And to be a leader you gotta put on your game face, live up to a certain "role", be ruthless and tough!!

Cut up tshirts, shredded DIY style, it all works for this girl and her "mean face"...and to get there, I use the Garrott Tee!

This week I took my cut-up, slashed to the nines tshirt from Garrott Designs, and accessorized my gang vest with it-or vice versa, however you want to look at it.

You might recall its actually a basic tshirt body, it just happens to have this amazing original artwork on it...but I have taken my scissors to it showing no mercy with every snip.
This week I did not do anymore cuts, rips, ties, etc...just took the same version of the tshirt from Look #16, and paired it with my typical girl-gang attire.

Its very imperative I keep up appearances, I've worked hard to create a "character", an "attitude", for my alter-ego...and if i were to dress too girly with this vest, well it just would not be JOAN THREAT.

Luckily, the Garrott Tee I cut up keeps me shootin' daggers with my eyes and spittin' vinegar with every word.
Its a PERFECT addition to my attire when I take my walk and talk to the mean streets of Brooklyn!

Weekend Rewind: June 11-12th, 2011

This weekend was what I like to refer to as, "A Downtown Dolls Weekend"--meaning I hung out with the girl gang A LOT!
Not sure how well you know me, so this may be a well known fact, or little known secret, to you...but yeah-I started a girl gang last summer! So if you see me in this vest, or you hear me mention the Downtown Dolls-that's my street crew!
I will not get into it much, since you can easily click the links here, or the DTD badge on my side panel to read up on our mischief.

But the girls keep me busy, keep my head on the ground, and keep me rollin' in the fun!
Thank goodness for weekends like this past one, 'nuff said!

Saturday: June 11, 2011-

It started out with me thinking it was actually summer, after all is it not June? Well weather does not always cooperate with my plans to wear cut-offs at all times on the summer weekends, and brrrrr was I chilly!
Being rainy and cold, the Renegade Craft Fair we went to in McCarren Park was a bit of a bust...at first. I am one cranky lil' "B" when I'm miserable-and chilly air, rain, and too many people tend to make me one giant grouch. So the first half of the day was not one to make me smile...obviously the pic above was taken when the rain went away and I was much more people-friendly.

So yes, we went to the craft fair. It was fun, especially since SewMeSomeLove is hangin' out with us for most of the summer (she's like my fake-lil' sister having known her the past 21yrs of my life, and well my real life intern)...we get to take her to these things and show her around and overall just make her see how awesome NYC is (especially in the summertime)!

Between the oodles and oodles of ogling I did, all the jewelry I wanted, and the loot to be had...can you believe I walked away with just a silly owl pin for my vest? Actually, its not all that surprising of me now that I think of it.

I did however snag some presents for friends, so it wasn't all a lost cause I suppose...I guess I just like when I can justify buying something for myself as well. Not happenin' lately.

We also spent Saturday eating and drinking, having some brunch you know? We gravitate toward Matchless, a bar in Greenpoint A LOT...it's almost like our second clubhouse. They have a pretty cheap yummy menu so it works for us!

While waiting for food we of course got all hammy for the camera--I for one thought I'd show you I actually have wavy hair, when it gets rained on this is what it does! Buggers!!!!
And the overcast skies are making me look like I have gray hair, no? I swear it is NOT gray...but its so silvery blonde here, WTF is up with that??

Ham, Ham, Ham it up!

So that was Saturday. I had all good intentions to go out later that evening, but it was a long long day and I just got way too comfy at home around 10pm to think about getting up to go out.

It was a long chilly day, what can I say...it wears a girl out!

And let me give a HUGE thank you to my buddy, Dusty Rose Vintage, for letting me borrow a cardigan since it was so cold on Saturday...a vintage CHANEL cardigan that is! I was a bit smitten for a moment when I put my arms in the sleeves-I realized I would probably never wear Chanel again (oh but actually I could wear it right now as I type this considering its in my bedroom right now...I'll give it back soon, I promise).

Sunday: June 12, 2011-

Again, hanging out with some of my girls...we first stopped at The Museum of Art & Design.
We went there for a David Bowie retrospective, but I ended up really liking the entire museum...for the first time ever I did not lose my attention span at all!

I did however, not think to take pics of the David Bowie portion, but it came naturally when I got to the diorama exhibit encompassing two floors--seriously, amazing! My camera was click, click, click'n away--such tiny little models, little environments, little everything--it was really cool to think that people sit around and make things like this for fun, or a living, or whatever. I want to build models!

The top set of pictures is A.) a model (top most pic) of a blown up beauty salon, and B.) a photo (bottom pic) of the model looking all realistic and lifelike! Pretty cool, no?

I loved the below pic because it was a large model of a building and you looked into a tiny cut out square and that's what was inside!
I felt like I was secretly peering into a world I should not know of. There were a few pieces like this done by different artists. Again, soooo cool!

I also really enjoyed the mini worlds inside the snow globes.

But my favorite piece of all was this spinning strobe lighted carousel thing. The combination of rotating surfaces and strobe lights made it appear as if it wasn't going round and round at high speeds at all. But my camera captured the motion!

There was also a modern furniture type exhibit going on. I rather quite liked this chair because it consisted of vintage wedding gowns. God knows there's enough of those in existence, but what a great idea! I completely want like 2 ottomans made of this same technique...I think I could do it-um, just don't sit on them if you ever come to visit...kerplunk!

These lil' guys were right next to the furniture, but not sure what they were a part of, I just thought they were handsome dudes!

Then again, this gold background was next to the furniture too--and its "art"...I thought it looked more like a par-tay background photo-op, so voila! Thanks artist-guy for letting us disrespect your attempt at something worthy of a museum.

And of course me...this wouldn't be my blog without a pic or two of me now would it?

Let me just tell you what I was wearing, and why before we get onto the 2nd portion of my Sunday.

The 2nd half of my day consisted of the Big Apple BBQ Festival! Hell YEAH!

Not only do I love me some good ol' southern BBQ once in a while, I also really wanted to go because Those Darlins' were playing--only one of my favorite newer bands.
I saw them once last summer, but hot off the tail of their new album they stopped thru NYC to play the BBQ-fest. I'm down with that...good eats, free show, what's not to love?

After the show, it was time for me to wet my appetite and taste me some BBQ!
Naturally, I gravitated to the booth from Nashville, TN--where else would I get my BBQ from? Its not like Wolf's BBQ from Evansville, IN was there...so I got with the Tennessee spirit instead (um, I do want to one day live there you know, might as well start eating the bbq now--see what kinda treat I'm in for when I'm an old lady)

While waiting about an hour in line, I did spot this sloppy mess in the back of their smoker trailer...did it stop me from eating some bbq pork? Oh No!

Instead, I might've said something like "Ya'll got some pork up in here?"

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm........

YUM.........

and HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!

Such a lovely lady I am, no?

Daily Wear: Blue Jean Baby

I think I talked briefly about these jeans before, but not a lot.
I bought them about 2 months ago, they were just slightly too long (about 1-1/2"), so I had them hemmed by a "professional", perfect length!
But after getting them back from the hemming job, they were now too big in the waist, but this was a friendly favor the tailor of sorts was doing for me, so I felt wrong in asking him to take them back and fix the waist size for me now. So I sucked it up and told myself to wear a belt.

While the belt idea works, I still feel a wee bit of gapping and like there's too much space btwn the waistband and my body. And I'm realizing now I'd wear these jeans a whole lot more and I'd turn myself into a 70s girl if only I had the waist size correct.

I should probably get on fixing the waist, eh?
Because these jeans do wonders for my legs...why should I let them sit in my closet just because the waist is a little big? Get your act together already, Nickie, get them fixed!
Yeah, cause this leg lengthening thing these jeans do--I really really like it.

This is my not so secret, secret. Buy jeans or pants a few inches too long, wear huge heeled shoes with them, the length of the pant will cover the heel of the shoe, and the world just thinks you're 6ft tall then!
Shhhhhh...don't tell anyone I'm about 5" shy of 6ft; no one but you needs to know that!

So readers, if you don't see these jeans in the near future, can someone remind me to get the darn waist fixed already? If you don't see them, it means I haven't fixed them yet.

Daily Wear: At the Movies

This is an outfit from last weekend, which should've been posted earlier, I know! But hey, its finally summertime and when that occurs that means I'm rarely at home more than just to sleep.
Also, being summertime, we know what that means--me in SHORTS! LOTS OF SHORTS! Probably cut-off white trash jean shorts moreso than these, but I'll keep it classy starting out; I'm just warning you its all downhill from here.

I wore this to the movies...we went and saw Bridesmaids-one funny laugh after another I tell ya! Holy cow, I almost lost my coke zero thru my nose when I took a huge gulp and then they flashed a painting of Wynonna Judd on the screen; did anyone else seem to think this scene was as funny as I did?

This shirt is a cheapie from Forever 21, although at what age do I need to STOP shopping there? It's still ok right? I am 31, but I act 21...soooooooooooooo; you figure it out for me ok? I need to know when I am too old for that store. Or is it moreso when my style outages the store? Because my true age is just a #; my style age is something different.

Anyway, I do like this shirt because I think its a pretty lil' print. Sweet and not my usual go-to style. This is usually how I do it when I'm shopping at F21. I steer clear of their cheap jersey items, the things that look like a 14yr old would wear it, and I go for the silky, sheer, and lightweight drapey pieces--they always look a little more expensive and of higher quality, right? That's how I figure I can get away with shopping there at my age.

I also am really into "ititials" these days. Not so much that I'm going to run out and do a "Sex and the City" nameplate necklace, heck no! I despise that show and the girls in it...its sooooooooooo not NYC, so not realistic; and I'm very anti-Sarah Jessica Parker-we won't even go there.
But I do like initials...and I found this cute little typewriter key at Urban Outfitters. It was on sale, how could I pass it up? I've had it for a few months, but I don't think I ever take a pic of it. Just thought I'd show you NOW what I'm into.

Anyway, even though its summertime i'll try to blog steadily, a few times a week. I won't give up these duties for sunshine just yet--but believe me, I'm ready to soak up the sunshine whenever possible as well! So we'll see how I balance it all.
(clearly I didn't make it out to photograph this in the sunshine, ha...nothing like some nighttime shots of an overall daytime outfit.)

The Garrott Tee: Look #16-DIY Ventilation

I've got some more DIY up my sleeves this time around with Garrott Designs' "Without my Muse" tshirt!!!
And just in time for the hot hot heat! Lets just say I've installed some built in ventilation, to keep cool thru the dog days of summer

You might recall the Garrott Tee started out slouchy with the size I chose. And my first DIY with it was to cut the neck making it more of a "Flashdance" off-the-shoulder look:

After the first DIY, I then took to the sleeves and chopped those off for another look:

This time, I just went to town with my scissors! Cuts, slashes, ties, more fitted in the front-completely ripped to shreds in the back:

Oh, and I chopped about 2" off the length at the bottom of the tee.

So, want to know just how I did this? Probably not...but I'm going to tell you anyhow so you can get yoursellf all air-conditioned this summer too.

1. You'll need just 3 supplies: scissors (nice shears used to cut fabric, do not use paper scissors!), a marker, and a ruler.

2. Place ruler vertically from neckline down to hem. I chose to make slits 1" apart from one another, therefore I marked 1" hash marks all the way down. (I started 2" down from neckline as you can see)

3. After marking my spacing all the way down to sweep, I then drew horizontal lines across the back of the tshirt.

4. Get ready to cut! I found it easiest to pull up the shirt and create a little fold where hash marks were, this makes inserting the scissors easy. I then proceeded to cut slits all the way across horizontal lines on the left half of the shirt. I then went back and cut the other half on right side of shirt.

5. I tried the shirt on and thought it was too long, so I cut off the bottom 2-1/2" of the tshirt's length; this is a personal preference all your own.

6. Finally, I cut the top 2", right below neck, in half--I created a tiny little tie with these two sides, thus creating a more fitted looking front view than the tshirt originally had. (Look back near beginning of this post and you'll see the little tie at center back neck that I'm talking about).

So there you have it...completely DIY'd and ready to go thru the hot summer days. At this point, the shredded shirt really isn't appropriate for much more than casual attire; um FLIP-FLOPS! (yeah get a good look now kids, me in flats...let alone flip flops??? Rare rare sight! This happens about as often as 3 eclipses in one month--which is also happening this June, I know because I read my horoscope! LIBRA, lets here it for the creative artsy fartsy venus ruled sign!!!)

Just how are you going to cut up some tshirts for summertime? You know you wanna!

Fashion @ the Movies: L'Amour Fou

Last night Iwent to the IFC theater to see a documentary on the one and only,

Yves St. Laurent.

Actually, to be fair, the movie was not just about him.

It was moreso a documentary done through the eyes of his partner and practically lifelong companion,

Pierre Berge.

He told the story from their first meeting, the beginnings of a fashion empire, to the death of YSL himself, and the eventual selling of their artwork collection.

The movie at hand is called, L'amour Fou.

The movie was not particularly noteworthy, but it was not particularly horrible either.
I was anticipating an indepth backstory on the business and love relationship between YSL and Pierre Berge.
Instead, I got an overview of their union, but nothing as indepth as I had looked forward too.

I was also intrigued by the idea of learning more about these two, their lives, and their immense art collection since all I ever really knew was about YSL and his fashion resume.

The movie never went much further than the surface though.

Sure, we got to know Pierre a little more, we got to see the Picassos, the famous Warhol, etc. and we got a quick glimpse at Yves' muses Betty Catroux and Loulou de La Falaise, but I never felt like I got a grasp on anything more than a bunch of photo archives.

My friend sort of had it correct when she said they didn't really develop either/or, they didn't get deep enough into the fashion realm of it, nor did they ellaborate enough into their art collection.

Otherwise saying, this is a good netflix movie.

Nonetheless, the photos and footage will definitely appeal to the fashion girl in all of us

(I mean a fashion designer like myself, c'mon, how could I not dazzle at the sight of the fab Mondrian inspired dresses???)

Overall though, don't lose your money on this.

Wait a few months...then watch it on a rainy Saturday morning.

Daily Wear: Local x Local

Sunday I went to this event at Brooklyn Bowl called Local x Local. I actually had worn this outfit all day, even early morning for a photoshoot I was due at. At said photoshoot, Ideegeniale asked me,
"Why are you so dressed up? that's a fancy tunic!"
Um, apparently she has been sleeping thru the past 2.5yrs of our friendship and my fashion history...this is sooooooooooooo NOT dressed up! This is normal! Get w/my closet program Ideegeniale!

Another slightly odd thing going on here; I think people thought I got my hair cut. I understand a profile shot from my right maybe might appear that I went and got a bob...but I assure you, the side mullet assymetry is still very much in affect! I'm not ready to chop my mop just yet--go dark, but not chop. (that's right, stick w/me thru this summer and you're gonna see the Joan Jett in me come out)

Another thing going on here...my clavicle! I've been obsessed with having a clavicle since gaining that dreaded holiday cookie weight. I worked out, cut lots of meat from my diet, and what's that??? A little bit of a protruding clavicle? maybe? Yeah, clavicles are my THANG! And I finally achieved it, sorta...this whole time you know I named my excercise/diet routine, "Project Protruding Clavicle"? True story!
Now....maybe it should be renamed to something along the lines of "Project Maintain Clavicle"??? You guys got any name suggestions?

Oh its been a while since I rambled on about silly things in my mind, huh? There you go...you're pretty much all caught up with the "deep" thoughts I've got brewing inside. I know...I'm sure you're as tuckered out as I am after dealing with all this "thinking" I do. So its ok, take a nap.

Daily Wear: Savage Beauty

I know a lot of you can't just hop on a subway and end up at the front steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art like I can. But if you're in NYC before July 31st, and you're even remotely interested in fashion then you MUST check out "Savage Beauty"! For those unfamiliar with what I'm talking about, its the Alexander McQueeen (RIP you talented thing!) exhibit going on now.

Below are just a few pieces that I found to be my favorite amongst the 100+ pieces on display. There was actually so much craftsmanship, detail, beauty, its actually quite hard to say exactly what my favorites are.

The jacket below was gorgeous! I wish I had a photo of my own as it was paired with a tulle evening gown and the jacket overall was much longer in length than the photo here is allowing.

These silk tulle evening gowns and silk satin jackets were divine, something fit for royalty.

This dress is amazing! I cannot even imagine the painstaking hours something like this must've required. Some of the flowers used were REAL.

Upon walking into the exhibit, these two beauties are on display...they really are two of the best pieces in the entire exhibit. The red gown is made of plastic disks on the bodice and feathers in the skirt.

The ivory gown is made of clam shells!

talk about creativity!

It's unfortunate as I did have my camera with me, however photos are not allowed at this particular exhibit and I was not brave enough to break those rules because quite honestly I was not willing to miss out on this showing for the sake of getting kicked out for being a rule breaker.

Afterwards we headed outside and snapped a few shots in front of the fountain. I would've done outfit shots on the stairs, since this is where the kids from Gossip Girl would meet (I do have a thing for Chuck Bass), but too many tourists splattered themselves in my way, so the fountain was the next obvious choice.

I was at work during the day, and by this time it was 9pm...so excuse the haphazard appearance, after a day in my office one tends to look a bit haggard.

It's still pretty chilly in NYC, Spring has failed epically! So I'm still with coat and boots. But leopard print booties...YES PLEASE! I don't care if its 90degrees outside in a few weeks, I'll probably still be wearing these babies. We know I do like just about anything leopard; and a little heat isn't going to stop me.

The Garrott Tee: Look #15-In Transition

It's Look #15 of the "Without my Muse" tshirt from Garrott Designs. Lately I've had a hard time with it, because the weather does not cooperate and it remains chilly and rainy and just not spring-like here in NYC.
With that being said, I've also not rotated my wardrobe from winter to spring/summer. Soon people, soon...then I'll finally have some new ideas and looks to bring you. Because honestly, I realize this here is just another GRAY way of wearing The Garrott Tee.

Anyway, this time around I wore the tshirt to work-so you're seeing firsthand a work outfit. My workplace, being part of the fashion industry, is very laidback and we can wear what we wish--but I still don't think that means I should slack off. So on the non-jeans days I try to go with a skirt or dress, especially if I intend to wear a tshirt. I don't like wearing a tshirt and jeans to work often--if so, I think it needs a little oomph, i mean afterall this is still a professional place of business.
Yeah-so this time I paired the tshirt with a skirt, a skirt from work actually, and it takes it to that creative level I require when going to the office.

Thankfully the Garrott Tee is easy to link up with accessories too. I love me some accessories, yet I'm not one to go overboard with them, just a few here and there. I think its the gray hues of the tshirt that allow me to easily toss a few add-ons into the mix. Usually its a scarf right? This time I went with just a necklace, actually two.

And there you go, a glimpse into my office-attire, and a glimpse of how you can take a tshirt like the Garrott tee and make it work at work.

Weekend Rewind: May 14-15th, 2011

Forgive me, two days after my weekend-I finally get to post my "Weekend Rewind".

Saturday: May 14, 2011-

I met up with 2 of my gang girls, you know...the Downtown Dolls, for an epic adventure of Punk Rock, Violence, and Drugs in the East Village. And not modern day "punk", we're talking the real thing...late 70s, early 80s...gritty NYC! I'm a sucker for a good walking tour full of history; and this very rock n roll walking tour proved to be 3hrs of good stories and firsthand accounts--led by John Joseph of the Chro-mags.

We of course started where any good punk rock tour should start...The Bowery. In its heyday it was a dangerous, skid row of drugs, punks, hookers, and all things I'd find interesting. The Bowery is the street where the now defunct CBGB's resided--I had the pleasure of going there once for a show and I can tell you I got the same goosebumps when pissing in the bathroom that I got when I was at Graceland standing on Elvis' lawn. You might wonder why I'd have such a reaction in a bathroom, but amazing idols of mine like Debbie Harry, used that same exact stall! (With that being said, I also got the same goosebumps when I was in Philly and found myself standing over Ben Franklin's bathroom area of his house's foundation--so yeah let's just go with NERD ALERT, right HERE!)

What's most irksome about CBGB's being gone is the fact that John Varvatos took over the building and opened a way too expensive store. What a pity that a piece of NYC history had to go to this man! grrrr.

We later walked to Niagra, or A7 (not to be confused with 7A), where we were told of the bands that used to sneak in the back entrance for afterhours and late night sets after their gigs elsewhere. Appropriately there's a Joe Strummer mural for those not acquainted with the streets of NY; you can't really miss this building thanks to the painting.

We also strolled past my favorite shit-hole bar, Mars Bar. It's sad to know that it too is closing it's doors mostly due to rent increases, the same way that CBGBs had to say goodbye. This place is so filthy and gross and perfectly awesome, it makes my heart hurt to see it go; yeah I like dirty bars!

Our tour guide was good for lots of random personal stories that didn't have as much to do with the actual tour; but to me they were pretty humorous...I think a few of the tour-goers were getting antsy but I found the guy to be hysterical and his accounts of what went down were pretty entertaining. Such was the case with this mosaic wall; apparently his brother stuck sticks of dynamite in the person's face in the mosaic design...and something along the lines of the dynamite flew out and busted out windows across the street. Of course it did-what kind of story would it be if nothing exciting happened?

We also stopped at the corner of the St. Mark's Bar, where the Rolling Stones filmed "Waiting on a Friend".

In addition, we stopped by the NYU dorms which used to be the famous Palladium; NYU has destroyed so much of NYC history! Just sayin'
We also saw the building that used to be Max's Kansas City-which I found awesome because I never knew where it was located at...and you might recall it (or a replica of it) in the movie "Almost Famous"...its where they're eating when they find out they're going to be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
We also got to see the apartment building used for the cover of Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti" album; supposedly their drug dealor (or was it Keith Richards' dealer??) lived in that building.

All in all it was really pretty awesome. I would completely recommend a walking tour of any sort if you're visiting NY; or if you live here, why not??? I have been on something like 4 walking tours, and they're amazing!

Of course, all that walking...we dolls get thirsty. And we're no wimps...we go straight to the bar when we're needing a thirst quencher. Water? pssshhhh!

Sunday: May 15, 2011-

Hot off the tail of my Punk Rock walking tour; I felt the need to continue the theme because I do love a good rocker look. I had a few things, mostly serious work like stuff, planned for Sunday...but since it wasn't really my office I was going to, I could dress as I please.

And it wasn't all work, between downloading some things at my friend's house for my new computer, we grabbed a bite to eat at Beet in Park Slope. Here I brushed up on my photography skills I just acquired in last month's photo class I took. I hadn't used the black/white setting much, or the manual mode since the class and I definitely do not want to lose knowledge that I learned; although amateur photography-its still very important I keep up the practice wherever I go, or else I will forget what's what and I'll be stuck back in auto mode for the rest of my days.

So in typical Nickie Fashion, I documented my cocktail. Maybe I have a drinking problem, maybe I just like the booze? I know for sure I liked the foamy stuff on top of what was basically Hawaiian Punch with lots of liquor in it.
And then I set up the camera with all the proper F-stop, shutter speed, etc for the environment in hopes that I would make it easy on my friend to photograph me really quick. Well the picture's quality came out ok, but I'm a little off center--c'mon!

After a few more downloads and some computer talk (because I don't know what the heck I'm doing with my new Macbook Pro, did I really need to get an Apple??? No, but I did WANT it!), I headed to the Dusty Rose Vintage headquarters to help style some looks for next week's photoshoot (oh yeah kids...some DRV shoots comin' up--we all love those when I post 'em right?)

So I took my rock n roll butt up to Greenpoint, did some styling...then I came home and called it a night. And that kids, that was my weekend!

Daily Wear: garden PARTAY!!!!!!!!

Last Wednesday, Ideegeniale invited me to be her +1 or sorts for a Seychelles' preview party. It was a Garden Party theme and lovely all around.
It's been a while since I went to one of these blogger type/fashion parties so I thought why not, plus its good to get out and mingle once in a while...plus this girl needs to be social and keep busy; so this was a perfect opportunity to do just that.

The Seychelles' showroom was packed to the brim with bloggers, fashion people, and randoms of all sorts.

Pretty shoes were everywhere, my mouth was salivating probably...we know I love a shoe with height!

Yummy food laid out for the taking, usually I'm the girl hanging out by the free food table, this time I behaved myself.

In addition to the fun, they were having a drawing for some winnings, not sure when the drawing is, but I'm guessing I didn't win since its been several days and no word--that's usually how it goes; I didn't go into this expecting to win anything; who really does?

I think my favorite part was all the pretty clothes...

A gorgeous little vintage wonderland...

Lovely frocks abound, sparkly jewels, and wonderful smelling soaps...a girly girl menagerie if ever there was one and I rather quite enjoyed it (because on occasion I do like to embrace the fact I'm a girl).

The scenery was pretty divine; they did great stuff with their showroom to ready themselves for the party.

The really fun part of it all was the SMILEBOOTH!
Everyone seemed to be down for hamming it up for the camera...I mean who wouldn't want to wear a floral wreath and say cheese?

Clearly....these two were down for it!

Afterwards, Mel and I walked to the train where I stopped to get my outfit pics taken since I seem to forget this from time to time. Plus, its been a long while since I had some real outdoor street-style shots; usually its me in the stairwell or on my roof. So Thanks Mel for helping a girl out!

I haven't yet switched my wardrobe from my winter goods to the spring/summer stuff...so I kinda just threw a mish-mash of light colored things together. For being in the winter wardrobe I was pretty happy with the spring-effect the outfit had.

Put on some accessories like my new little ring and my replacement pearl necklace (I had left behind my first one like this last fall--it was from Topshop, then I came across this one a few weeks back at F21 and PHEW! I've been missing that necklace ever since...so thanks F21 for your knockoff version; it does the trick!)

One of my favorite things in my wardrobe right now are my leopard print heels from H&M. I got these last fall back when I said I wanted some leopard shoes in my "What I Want Now" section; and even though I've had them for months now, only recently am I finding myself wearing them on a weekly basis. Maybe it was the blisters I got back in Sept. that lured me away; but now they fit fine and I'm loving them!

So that's the way I roll when in a bind with springy outfits; until I find the motivation to switch my wardrobe from winter to summer; I'll keep on going this route with layers of light colored items. It seems to work for now...but seriously, I need to change out my clothing already. eh, someday soon...like when its 90degrees! ha

The Garrott Tee: Look #14-Flower Power

This week, I tried my hand at whipping up the new with the old...
a vintage frock of floral fauna layered under the "Without my Muse" tee from Garrott Designs.

It's always fun to mix it up in such a way, it keeps a vintage dress from looking too costume-y, while incorporating some laid-back ease that only a tshirt can offer.

The dress itself was a bit longer than my usual preference. In fact, it was below the knee and rather dowdy.
To remedy this, I did some DIY work as is not a surprise. I took some safety pins, pinched the dress at the middle of my thigh at the side front--and took it up a few inches and pinned. VOILA-thus creating a bit of a high-low hemline and a little more movement and sass overall. I then did the same exact thing to my other side-front leg area.
This is a great tip girls if ever you have a full swingy dress that's a bit longer than you like, but you don't have the time for proper hemming/alterations just yet. A few safety pins can be a girl's BFF. I know!

I then got all "snazzy" with the dress' tie belt. I don't need the belt at my waist when I've got the Garrott Tee wrangling in the dress' fullness. Soooooo, I did what any intelligent lassie would do, I tied it around my neck for some excess pizazz!
It adds one more touch of floral feminity to the whole look.
Just one more way to take the "Without My Muse" tee and make it a wee bit girly!

Do you ever try anything like this with your pretty lil' vintage frocks? Or do you just wear them as they are? I do both...but sometimes those thrift store 70s dresses are just a bit much, no? And when that's the case, I find a quick fix like the Garrott Tee to be a lifesaver. (I mean yes, I could just opt not to wear the vintage dress altogether, but really? I'm not practical like that!)

So girls...get yourself a Garrott Tee and see what you can come up with. I'm loving all the creative juices this collaboration has brought about in me. Before, a tshirt was just a tshirt...but I'm learning along with you, that there's a bajillion ways to wear a tee outside of the norm.

Corinne McCormack PREVIEW

Woah, Holy AWESOME SUNNIES, Batman!!!

I was in sunglass heaven last week when I was invited to preview the new line of sunnies by Corinne McCormack.

You might recall last season I attended their Spring 2011 preview of the reading glasses and eyewear she designs. Well this season she outdid herself with some amazing, stylish, and super fun sunnies. I spent a good half hour trying on almost every oversized sunglass she had to offer. I bypassed the aviator styles but kinda wish now I would've given them a go...but who are we fooling, since when do I do aviators? I'm such an OVERSIZED kinda girl...I like the way huge sunnies make me feel "incognito".

I had so much fun, and picked out a few pairs of sunglasses for myself (and a giveaway pair so you can cop my oversize style and have a bit of Corinne McCormack in your life too...so stay tuned, giveaway soon!)-Woot Woot!

In addition to the new sunglass collection, I browsed thru the towers of colorful, printed, and super cool frames, chains, and eyeglass cases.

Corinne has so much to offer if you're one to embrace color, its just unbelievable. Her use of prints, textures, bright shades, etc are sooooooooooooooooo in line with my usual style is only inevitable I would LOVE her merchandise.

The eyeglass cases caught my eyes as I'm certain they could double as a clutch for a fun night out with the girls. I gotta get on that, double usage of an item--extra mileage--my kinda approach to fashion!

I was intrigued by the textures and animal skins...I work with these same types of animals on a daily basis so after 8yrs on the job, I've grown quite comfy sporting such feline and reptile prints in my daily life. I could see myself incorporating a lot of Corinne McCormack's things into my regular wardrobe...WITH EASE!

Ah...what fun it was! I do love to preview new collections, and I felt quite privelaged to do just that at the Corinne McCormack showroom.

The Garrott Tee: Look #13-On the Prowl

This little kitty is stepping up to the plate and getting back out there. While not quite old enough to be a cougar, she's definitely no domestic housecat...
I'd go with LYNX if anything.
And this lynx is ready to take a swing at things again, step to the plate, and as the Stray Cats would say,

That's right, you got your girl back...Nickie is on the PROWL! MEOWZAS!

I can't think of a better way to cat-around than in something I would wear out and about on a Friday night. And in my usual fashion, mix'n it up with something old and something new. A new direction to something used and sometimes damaged (thus was the case with my heart and with this sequin dress...but a couple quick stitches and there's nothing that can't be mended.)

This Garrott Tee look is something a grand majority of you ladies in the blogosphere could do yourself...I know, because a LOT of you happened to purchase the Rodarte for Target "Ribcage" dress from back in the day. If you're like me, you wore it maybe once till its popularity drove you crazy and you never wanted to see it again. And if you're like me, you know to hang onto such pieces like this because one day, say 20yrs from now, some random lil' 17yr old awesome girl is gonna pick it up at a vintage store or thrift store and think she's the shit! (Rightfully so, I would be that girl if in 20yrs I was only 17 and came across this dress.)

Well, just as you're thinking its time you send that sequin dress away from your closet and off to the Salvation Army, I bring you SALVATION...ok not really, but seriously...just take a shirt like Garrott Designs' "Without my Muse" tee and look at how nearly unrecognizable that old dress was! (Seriously, the same with me. A few quick strokes of black eyeshadow, a few pins in the hair, and I'm almost a complete 180 of what I was last week at this time, no?)

This week I took the same DIY version of the Garrott Tee, left it as is from Look #12; layered it over the ribcage dress, threw on a belt to nip it in a bit, covered up with my leather bomber since its still a bit nippy in the Northeast, grabbed my rocker fringe bag, and I'm off to the East Village!
Now try and tell me you can't do this too...or at least your own spin on it!

Purr-fect for a late night treat like catnip with a new "victim", errrrr I mean guy.

The Garrott Tee: Look #12-Smoke Gets in your Eyes

Like a lot of us, I dress for my mood. Currently things are gray...shades of gray.
-Gray is perfect to mimic my stronger moments: cold and icy.
-Gray is perfect to depict my weaker moments: cloudy, stormy, tears streaming like torrential downpours.

So thank goodness I've got the Garrott Tee to help me dress my heart. A monotone outfit for a mono life.

Now I'm not saying Garrott's "Without my Muse" tshirt is only good for times of depression, heck no...just saying it comes in handy when things aren't all sunny and brightly colored.
But I've shown you it can go the other way if that's the way I was feeling at the time--rainbows, unicorns, and ice cream cones.

But right now, the smoke is in my eyes.

But on a completely different, and more appropriately relevant note, do you recognize this version of the tshirt? It's the one I altered in Look #9. This time, I chopped the sleeves off, making a slouchy wide open tank. Kinda '80s, kinda cool, kinda trashy, very ME!

If anything, least I have been able to shed the layers and jackets and take in the warmer weather spring finally brought about. The newly altered tshirt makes for a perfect addition to the spring wardrobe. So while my life feels as overcast as the skies; at least I've got the temps to warm my heart, and the Garrott Tee to clothe the feelings.

Daily Wear: To See a Show

I snapped these outfit photos last week right before I headed out to see the Raveonettes. The outfit is a little different for me as far as my typical show outfit goes. Generally when seeing a band I opt for the skinny jeans and black or white tshirt combo with my leather bomber. It just seems like something that that would be "show appropriate"...or maybe its because I sometimes have to go see bands by myself and an outfit like that will make me seem less approachable (not that strangers are approaching me anyhow, but you know what I'm saying).

So I figured, why not give something a little more girly a try for once. Plus I was going with 3 of my gf's so I didn't necessarily need to hide my insecurities behind the "tough girl" outfit :) haha.
In the end, this outfit faired just fine for me. It worked out well and was a welcome break to my usual show attire.

I am kinda stoked to wear this dress this summer actually. Without a jacket to be exact. It's a nipped in elastic waist with a ruffle detail at the neckline. It's very cute and short and girly...all things I like to take for a spin from time to time. Plus its floral and I have been wanting some more floral #'s in my wardrobe for summertime; so pefecto!

Weekend Rewind: April 24th-25th, 2011

Wow...how long as it been since I did a Weekend Rewind? really, right?
Well I had tons of chipper stuff to talk about because my weekend was pretty fun and it was EASTER! But then my world came crashing down at 10pm Sunday night...so for the next few weeks, while I may be blogging more (I've got lots of newfound free time, not my wish, but hey crap happens), I will probably also be a Debbie Downer; just bear with me.

Saturday-April. 23, 2011:

I had a day of errands, and dropping off my photography project and mounting hooks on the back so they'd be ready for my photo exhibition on Sunday...these past few weeks I've had hardly any time for anything because I enrolled in a photography class. So you can imagine between work, at the time a boyfriend, and hoemwork from class well I was a busy lady.

Anyway, I've been dying to wear my Axl Rose tshirt more often and I realized for as much as I love it, I still had never shown you guys its awesomeness.
I thought a rainy Saturday of errands was a good day to go "metal chick" with my attire. And Axl brought the badass to my outfit.

After errands, I had all good intentions to go home and make food for Easter Brunch on SAturday. Instead, as most of my friends (myself included) are easily seduced by the bottle; we went to a bar after errands. From about 4:30 till the wee hours of Saturday night I was chugging brews. I can hold my own, so its ok.

We went to a show, saw Hunx and his Punx (a fun band if I do say so myself), then more drinks at a local bar. I think I teetered home way too late, but I still got up at a decent hour on Easter to make my food for our friends' brunch.

It was a pretty fun night...I hadn't gone out to the bars like that in a while; I had actually been quite responsible and happy in my dometicated little life I managed to carve out for myself. So out late with friends after so long of not going out, it was a welcome treat. ANd I'm glad I had Axl along for the ride!

HELLO EASTER!
I felt really springy and almost like an easter egg which would only be appropriate on such a day. Today was the day of my friends' Easter Brunch, as well as my photography exhibition. So I thought a cute little vintage frock of spring-like coloring would be ever-so delightful.

This is a dress I found at Beacon's Closet not too long ago. It's got a slight weird stain on it but hey whatever...I'm not opposed to wearing stained clothing; who am I to be clean and classy right? ha
I love this dress actually...while wayyyyyyyyyy on the short side, it still fits me well and is the exact style and proportion I like in a vintage dress. Easy and cute.

I also finally bought some nude patent leather heels as I had mentioned wanting a few weeks back. I figured nude would be a great match for this dress; I think it worked. And the heels, while I found almost impossible to walk in, look pretty great. I just have to figure out how to meander about in these shoes..and if I can't walk in them, I doubt the average person can either considering I wear sky-high heels 95% of the time!

So it'll be interesting to say the least right?

No, I'm not elluding that the Garrott Tee styling project has become a chore; I'm stating that my outfit this time around looks like I'm ready to do chores.

Yeah that's right, accessories ladies...they can make a tshirt outfit something much cooler, and they can make chores and errands all the better.

Daily Wear: In the Trenches

I finally did it...finally got myself that classic trench I've been wanting/needing for several spring season's now. It's probably been 3years since i said I needed a nice khaki trench; something to pull any look together and make me look like a clean-cut lady.

Call me crazy...but doesn't this trench do just that?

I think it pulls together my look, keeps me from looking sloppy, and just elevates my casual laidback outfit to a whole new level.

And its perfect for this time of year.

Today I had the day off due to Passover, so I spent my time running all over the city taking care of errands and business. And the weather was crappy as usual-rainy and chilly.

This trench did the job, kept me warm enough and dry-while looking seasonally appropriate. I was getting quite tired of wearing my winter coats in spring time...so this trench saves the day!

Yippee.

Underneath the coat, I opted for some layers and a mix of girly with casual.

I have this lil' minidress lace thing-not sure it can be a dress on me, so I just pair it with jeans to make it look less thought out. Not so high-maintenance I suppose.

I also paired some pearls/gold chains with it all to give it a glow. (funny, i had lost this very necklace for all times...then i stumbled upon a knockoff version at F21 2weeks ago...thank god! I'll take the knockoff, i don't care, I just needed this necklace again!)

So while dressing comfy and casual for a day of trekking back and forth all over the city, the trench kept my look looking fresh and tied together.

Everyone should own a classic trench, they're magic lifesavers!

If ever there was a time I needed you to hear my call...the time is NOW.

I've dropped your name rather frequently on this here blog, praised the comfort and durability of your product, and raved about the soaring heights your shoes put me at.

And quite frankly , my dear, I've come across two pairs that I simply want NOW.

This is no joke, I was up for about 4 hours last night frantically seeking them out on the internet, but just like Macy's, and Macy's.com, no websites have a size 8 available!!!!

First up, the Vadio.

It comes in other colorways, but this particular pairing is perfect for my life. Black and Brown is one of my favorite color-combos...its such a NO-NO to some people, that I just love to send their little close-minded worlds into a tizzy.

(its the same with navy/black for me too...love it!)

I realize this photo makes the wood part of the shoe look more like a pumice stone worthy of scrubbing my severely calloused feet, but rest assured its really a delightfully refreshing spring-y cedar instead. It's very "fresh" if I dare to use such a corny word.

Secondly, I'd really like to own the Black version of the Colie Pump.

I've been in dire need of some basic black heels since my last ones have seen two years of wear and tear, its time I replace them. Now I did just say "basic" and these Colie pumps are far from basic. Yet, in my eyes, these are kinda basic for my taste...and when comparing to the majority of all my other J.Simpson shoes, these aren't all that crazy.

(yes its true, I can't get enough of her shoes...and its ok...i love them)

So here's the conundrum,

I cannot find the Vadio anywhere in a size 8.

And I've found the Colie in a size 8 on a few sights, but I want them on sale since I could've had them for wayyyyy cheap with discounts and coupons at Macy's last night if only I wore a size 5.5.

So its hard for me to justify buying them for far more than Macy's was selling them at.

With that being said, even if paying full price for the Colie, the wait for shipping is until June 4th!!!!

I'd probably die from anticipation by the time they arrived.

but yeah, I'm in dire need of some retail therapy this weekend, and these shoes have got my name written all over them. (or moreso, Jessica's name all over them, just my toes lusting to be in there.)

And really, c'mon, we all know I'm on a question to be amazonian-like tall, therefore I really really really need these shoes. They'll help me achieve my delusional dreams all the more easy.

So grrrrr.....I want what I simply cannot seem to have.
I won't stop till I fall asleep though...so I'm back at it, ready to pound the internet pavement, in search of these ladies in a size 8.

The Garrott Tee: Look #10-SCALLOPed potatoes

Hey, I'm back with another personal take on wearing Garrott Designs' "Without My Muse" T-shirt.

(They were kind enough to give a break last week cause my brain was creatively fried-and my closet is uninspriring at the moment; but now I'm back in the game!)

This time around, for Look #10, I paired some of my old trusty Fall pieces with some of my trusty Spring pieces--appropriate considering the weather seems to teeter back and forth btwn spring-ish and fall-ish here in the Northeast.

(one day it'll be spring and I promise you a full blown SPRING styling; but for now, we gotta deal with my transitional wardrobe choices)

While the blouse underneath says FALL due to the rust shade; I think the scallop detail on the sleeves and tiers says SPRING. Nothing is better for Spring '11 than some girly scallops.

(although pretty sure Chloe was on it a year earlier-yeah i'm a commoner, not an owner of designer goods, therefore I can be a year behind ok?)

I wanted to be seasonally appropriate, yet still warm enough, so I thought layers as usual were the way to go. And layers are fun, you can be so creative with how you do it all up.

I mean why be so boring all the time with just a tank under a tee...spice it up a bit. Pair uncommon choices and throw on the Garrott Tee and you'll be surprised by the outcome. Practice makes perfect, and until you try you'll never know what works and what is simply crazy but kinda cool.

By that, I kinda mean what I've got going on here.

Who really thinks to fold up the tshirt to waist-level, and to roll under the sleeves to form a sorta sweater-vest looking t-shirt?

And while I'm at it, why not do the scallop silky blouse underneath? Yeah why not.

Then the body-con skirt to balance the scallop, the booties to keep me warmer than a sandal, and a multi color scarf to tie it all together-yeah works for me!

And its not your normal everyday tshirt outfit, right?

C'mon kids, let's have fun with a tshirt once in a while...tell me how you're wearing your tees lately, anything creative? Daily Wear: The BOMBer Squad

There's not much new about what you see here...just a previously worn outfit, black n white just like the photo. To me, talking about the same outfit as before is B_O_R_I_N_G.

Not much more could be said on it, its not like I actually woke up the 5min earlier that it would take to put a new spin on it, heck no!

But what? BOOM!

There is something NEW!

Ok so maybe its not even a new look, I pretty much wore exactly this entire outfit the last time I talked about it (that was over a year ago).

But you may notice that I happen to be wearing a non-tattered bomber jacket; yeah?

Let's just say, a little patience, and a careful eye paid off.

I found my coveted replacement bomber jacket.

You might recall in my last "What I want NOW" post, I mentioned "needing" a new bomber since my last one was all ripped up and completely shoddy looking. I also mentioned that I needed it to be around the $100 price range. Lucky me...Urban Outfitters came through!

And BONUS...its got a hood!

Actually, I wasn't diggin' the hood upon purchase; not what I really wanted. But I was in dire lust after everything else on this bomber because it was nearly just like my old one that needs to find a new home in the Staten Island Landfill. So I figured dealing with a dorky hood wouldn't be all that bad; just give me the darn new bomber already!

But you know what? After today's nasty rain when I stepped foot off the subway, I was a happy girl to have this very hood. It saved me from "melting" while I scrambled to find my umbrella deep in the depths of my tote. Phew...thank heavens for the hood.

So my hood and I now love one another, and mother nature and her rain can go F-off!

I feel back to normal now having found a new bomber. I was going a bit batty without one for the past few weeks. It's hard for me to feel "myself" when I don't have the leather jacket to toss on top of nearly all outfits. It adds that much needed dose of "street" to my style; without it I am simply lying to the world about who I really am.

The bomber is a MUST if I want to convey the truth thru my clothing.

So yep Mr. Bomber...I officially adore you.

Minding my p's and CURLY q's

Wait...what's different about this picture? What's going on here? Why is my hair beyond just "wavy"?

It's because the good people over at Misikko gave me the opportunity to test out one of their

Professional Curling Irons.

You might recall, just last month I tested out one of their professional flat irons as seen here, being that it worked out well for me, I thought of course it would be awesome to review another one of their products for your consideration.

When I received the clipless curling wand, I was a at first a little worried about just how this asymmetrical hairstyle of mine would fair when curled. I mean asymmetry in hairstyles is not usually best shown with texture like curl upon the mane, right?

And I'll admit, the end result-while much more pleasant than I imagined, was a little odd but only because of my cut...

the curling wand itself worked like a fast-action curling iron;

a dream curl it created just soooooo right if I do say so myself!

Ok, so as usual, I started fresh out of the shower, dried my hair as usual with my paddle brush and professional hairdryer.

This is what I typically look like immediately after unplugging my dryer.

(Not too wavy, not too straight, but definitely nooooo curl)

While drying my hair, I plugged in the curling wand to let it heat up.

Well slap me and call me crazy...but this thing heated up to perfection in a matter of mere seconds!

Amazing, such little wait time!

So I went about clipping up sections of my hair so as to get to the bottom layer first.

And then a curling I went.

I took about 2" sections on each layer until the full head was curled (sans bangs, no curl needed there).

I alternated curling direction with each strand--one curled clockwise, the next curled counter-clockwise...all curled in a ringlet type style.

I'll admit, I initially found the curling wand a little awkward to use. After a few tries, and a few minutes into it, I think I got the hang of it.

It's a little difficult at first being that there is not clamp to it-but I found taking the end of the strand of hair and wrapping it loosely around the barrel of the iron, then gently pulling the end of the hair would allow for it to easily wrap around the iron and within seconds I could release and have a near perfect ringlet ready to rival that of Nelly Olsen's 'do

(yeah...I referenced "Little House on the Prairie" just now; why not that is one fine show I grew up with and still love it to this day!)

About 10min later (I don't have tons of hair ok, as if it wasn't already apparent) I end up with lots and lots of texture, curls abundant everywhere! And you know what...I think I like it!

Um yeah...I like it!

Now this review went down on a Friday evening...do you think I was going to just stay home after that? NO!

I have a boyfriend these days--AKA a life outside of the blogosphere--so I was off to his house for some Netflix and hangout time.

Of course, as soon as I arrive for a lowkey evening with him and the roomate(s), the hair is the subject of conversation. To be fair, they only have ever seen me for the past 5 months with straight hair, maybe slightly wavy 1-2x when I was accidentally caught in the rain, but other than that never have they seen such a 'do on this girl.

And although I told BF beforehand that I curled it, for some reason they all kept asking where I went earlier that evening, all the while complimenting the curly style of course. But really? Do curls automatically equate to actually having a social engagement besides just me dolling myself up for no reason other than to review a product? Silly boys...I went nowhere before their house so I found it silly they kept asking where I was at.

Eh, regardless, I guess it was cool I didn't get laughed at--least it got compliments from them.

Sounds like the clipless curling wand and its finished product are boy approved-just sayin'.

In conclusion, if in the market for a new curling iron, or a change in hairstyle, give a clipless curling wand a try. You'll grasp the technique without the clamp in no time, and you'll be amazed at the dreamlike ringlets you can create in no time at all.

The Garrott Tee: Look #9-DIY Time!

As a fashion designer, a basic tshirt silhouette just begs me to cut it up. It's not long before I take to my older tees and slash it here, rip it there...I just don't seem to keep my tshirts in their original state for more than few wears.

The Garrott Tee is no exception...

No tee is safe when I'm with scissors!

Many of you may wonder just how some of us girls achieve the perfectly disheveled slashed up tees we wear around town with such natural nonchalance. While many others know exactly how we go about getting that wide neckline, slouchy fit, total Do-It-Yourself style.

This post is NOT for those ladies that know what I'm talking about...no no, this is for the non-patternmakers, the ones not schooled in the fashion trade, those that have a couple of tshirts lying around that they just want to unleash some wrath on.

(or say, a insanely oversized vintage concert tee, the perfect specimen for a little DIY cutting!)

Here we go ladies...a quick tutorial in how to cut your tshirt!

-How to Make a Wide Open Neckline-

1. Start with a basic tshirt;

(I prefer one slightly oversized, it lends itself to a nice slouchy effect when finished)

2. Get out your supplies, you'll need scissors, a ruler, and a writing utensil.

(if you've got a French Curve, all the better)

3. Measure the shoulders on each side

(sometimes tshirt, especially after many washings, become wonky and not symmetric.)

Make sure they're a similar length; if not you'll have to do some fudging of measurements

4. Once both shoulders are measured and its determined they're about the same length, decide how open you're going to want your neckline.

(It's best to go with a slightly open neck, as you can go wider and wider later on, but you can never go back to less wide once cut.)

I tend to start with a 2 to 2-1/2" wider neckline on each side

(making the neck essentially 5" wider total when finished)

Mark the shoulder your desired measurement over from neckline opening

(shown here, I've gone 2-1/2" wider-measured over from shoulder/neck point)

Do this on both right and left shoulder.

5. Next, find the center front neck point.

To do this, lay your ruler at shoulder/neck points and take half that measurement--that's your center front neck.

6. Now that you found your center front neck, determine how low you want the center neck to be...this is called your Neck Drop. Measure down center front neck and mark the lowest point you want your neck drop to be.

(I've determined about 1-1/2" is a good neck drop for this tee--I didn't want to cut into the graphics of the tee)

7. Now, following the curve of original neckline, draw your new neckline connecting shoulder mark to center front neck drop mark.

(This is where your french curve can come in handy-but if you don't have a french curve, you can just eyeball it.)

It'll look something like below:

8. Now cut along this new neckline

(I prefer to cut just slightly below my drawn line so that I don't have any marker lines left on my tshirt when finished)

It should look something like below:

And voila! Bestowed upon you is the finished product...a DIY, authentic, one of a kind Garrott Tee.

Now get your scissors, get your cut on, and show me your creativity!

How you wear your DIY tee is up to you...I prefer to keep it casual.

Since it was a typical day, being more daring was not called for, therefore I went with a wifebeater underneath.

However, on the weekends, I've been known to go sans tank underneath. Sometimes I like to take risks and show a little more than the 'rents would prefer. But hey...when you're an adult you can do what you like, right?

And uh, yeah...."I'm an adult" so I'll wear what I please, and wear it as I want.

The Garrott Tee: Look #8-Fandango

This week I bring you a more laidback, more practical, more casual version of the Garrott Tee I've been styling up each week for Garrott Designs.

I'll admit the last few looks have been pretty out there, even for me; I assure you, this one is perfect for almost everyone...so give it a whirl, or show me/tell me what you got for such an occasion I'm about to tell you about below.

Music Monday: Burritos, Nudies, and Gram=HEAVEN

On this Monday, I want to enlighten you blog friends on a recent musical obsession of mine.

While I can't say I was a long time fan, because honestly I just came across these guys a few years back when I read "I'm with the Band", I can say I'm a quick one to jump right into their world as soon as I gave it a listen.

It's the alt-country sounds of the Flying Burrito Bros.!

And their carefree spending that led them to purchasing Nudie Suits

Those things are amazing! Highly creative, full of craftsmanship, and incredibly tacky in the most fantastic way.

And without the ever so foxy Gram, I'm not sure if my obsession would've continued...

but yeah, he's a hottie and he keeps me comin' back for more day in and day out.

True story--for about 6 months I listen to the Burritos or Gram Parsons EVERYDAY!

As I listen to the true pioneer of country-rock, Gram Parsons, I fall more and more in love with his style.

I want to get some of those 60s and 70s threads, I want them on my body! I want to relive that time I wasn't yet born for.

Maybe even better, if I could be one of the girls that hung out with the Burrito Bros
(perhaps gank their style...yeahhhhhh!);

maybe one of Zappa's GTOs so I could've been friends with Pamela Des Barres and Miss Christine for whom they wrote my 2nd fave Burritos' song, "Christine's Tune (AKA Devil In Disguise)":

But really, the song I cannot take off of repeat, "Hot Burrito #1"...there's something in that voice, he sounds like he's hurting...but whatever, again I just think he's real hot and extremely talented!

But yeah...real hot for sure!

Are you surprised by this musical choice of mine? I wouldn't be...if you know anything about me, please know I'm a country soul at heart. This ol' rock n roller loves her some good old heart-wrenching country music
(only the older stuff, nothing on the radio now, lets get that straight).

And, also knowing I'm a woman of the fashion trade, it shouldn't be a surprise if I take a strong liking to the flashy get-ups of many a famous country crooner back in the day...from Porter Wagoner to George Jones...even to Elvis; these clothes they all donned--well its called a NUDIE SUIT of course!

Oh, right right, not all of you are into my stuff...so here's a quick breakdown of the Nudie Suit:

--an over the top piece of fine embroidery and sometimes perfect specimen of glitz and glam...

that just makes for one spectacular Rhinestone Cowboy, no?

--started by a man named Nudie Cohn,

later to be run and designed by his son-n-law, Manuel (who moved to Nashville to outfit many many famous rock and country stars...lucky talented man!)

And the most prime example, and one slick piece of work, was Manuel's suit he made for Gram:

Naked ladies on the lapel, Cross on the back, pot leaves, pills, poppies...interesting, no?

And this is only one of the many Nudie Suits you've probably seen--maybe you didn't realize you were looking at pictures of them before, I certainly did not until a few years ago when I was in Nashville and met this girl who's friend worked for Manuel. She enlightened me on Manuel and schooled me on the Nudie Suit.

And from then on out, it was awe in my eyes toward him and these crazy elaborate pieces of work!

Again, do we have to get into just how closely related music and fashion can be?

When not listening to the Flying Burrito Brothers, I find myself scrolling downward on the ipod, toward Gram Parsons!

After leaving the Burrito Bros, he went on to start a solo career--forging a perfect musical relationship with Emmylou Harris--those two could not sound more beautiful...if you're even remotely in need of a new something in your music library--listen to me, just put some Burrito Bros. and some Gram Parsons in the mix. And pull my stunt-you know the one? The one where you leave it on repeat over and over, and you just drool over Gram and his puppy dog eyes and shaggy long hair!

I'll listen to that man and ogle his Nudie Suit all day long, everyday...free of charge!

What I Want NOW: Three's Company!

Spring is almost here, and I need to refresh the wardrobe with a few items....3 key things to be exact.

I've had my eyes on the perfect pair of

basic, platform heels, but its a MUST that they're NUDE!

I've leaning more toward a patent leather pair, as there's so many out there in all price ranges these days.

I think the price range thing comes about because the Nude shoe trend has been around for over a year now...its time the lower price points catch on; Lucky Me!

I haven't quite chosen a pair yet, nor do I have a specific idea in mind, I just know I want NUDE, and when I see Nude, a heel, and a good $$$...I'm gonna buy, that's all I know.

I think Nude Heels are going to be great leg lengtheners to my chicken limbs come this spring; not to mention blushy nude tones just add a touch of girliness to almost any outfit;

god knows I can use all the "girly" I can manage, just to counteract this personality of mine.

In this category, I don't have anything in mind...just something, just anything!

I'm not looking to overpower my outfit with neon;

not looking to blind you when you read my blog,

nor do I want to overstimulate anyone with electric hues everywhere...

noooooo, just a hint here and there.

I'm growing particularly fond of the Spring '11 Dior make-up.

I like the idea of a shocking color swiped across the lid.

Or maybe a nude eye w/lots of black mascara and a streak of bold lipstick?

If I wore lipstick that is...I will try, yes I will try.

Makeup in neon shades is probably the way for me to go with this one...

I'll let you know what I find and what I go about doing in order to satisfy my 1989 craving for neon.

I guess lucky for me, at least I currently own this $2.00 pair of street vendor sunnies.

I knew like 3yrs ago these babies would come in handy one day...I'm just that ahead of my time...riiiiight!

And let's not get in a tizzy over this tshirt...while amazing I know, it is not mine...but one day soon Max Headroom on my upper torso could be a possibility, or it could be possible for you.

This here is just a sneak peak at a vintage tshirt shoot I did with Dusty Rose Vintage--I assure you, you'll definitely want to come back for those posts!

But yeah, let's just disregard what I"m wearing here...I'm focusing in on the shades at this very moment.

Get in Shape Girl...more like Get a Laugh Girl!

I give you 110% of my permission to laugh at me and my jack-assory all the way thru this post.

Me, working out, exercise...my coordination doesn't really allow for grace to be involved with that combination.

Sooooooooooo here we go...

1,2,3, and 4 and Kick, and Kick, and squat, and Kick!

This time I took the Garrott Tee to the gym!

While I'm not in the gym in these particular shots, I assure you I am freshly sweaty and stinky from being at a workout class in these photos...so here, this is what I look like right after burning 310calories doing an 80's aerobics workout. SWEAT!

If you've been following me on Twitter, catching some of my random sidenotes here in this blog, or just watching me in real life (yikes!), you know that I'm a wee bit obsessed with self appearance. I blame it on the fashion industry and having to put on dresses at work almost daily. If a dress doesn't zip up its a bit of a blow to the ol' self esteem. If it does zip and its tight, just as bad--it might as well not zip.

I like to put the dresses on and have them loose, I'd like to be known as the girl that's not really as big as our samples. I know, very very shallow, but I'm in the fashion industry...lets place blame where blame needs to be placed!

So yes, if you've been following me you know that I gained some holiday cookie weight I was not paricularly fond of. So I kicked my butt into gear and started hitting the gym and eating "right".

And I don't see why I shouldn't take a nice tshirt like that from Garrott Designs, and wear it to the gym???

Just cause I'm dripping with sweat and getting all hot doesn't mean I shouldn't look fun doing it!

I find the tshirt to be perfect for the gym. It's not some ol' torn piece of tricot you call a "workout shirt" buried in the bottom of your dresser drawer, this actually makes you look cute while working out!

I like it because its form fitting and shows off your hard work and efforts, while not being so constricting you cannot move. In fact, if anything, knowing its more fitted keeps my form better--meaning I suck in my gut! And that's key to flat abs and a great routine.

So yeah, there you go! Wear the Garrott Tee for a vigorous sweat fest, and look great doing it!

Pair it up with some fun pieces so you're not all serious, and hey--you're that quirky girl riding the stationary bike all awkardly! Oh wait, that's just me!

Whether you're doing yoga, stretches, lunges, weight lifting, crab crawls, whatever, the Garrott Tee won't let you look like a slob, and it'll make you and your form tip-top!

So kids, this is probably something you'll NEVER see from me again, so cherish the workout look and post gym "glow" (er...sweat) of Look #7 while you can.

I will probably never ever be back on this blog in my exercise attire...however, with me its a good idea to "never say never"

Just as everyone is gearing up for spring (and believe me, I'm ready), it appears I feel the need to dig deep into the depths of my wardrobe and pull out the most fall-esque color palate available in my clothing selection.
Ahhhhhh, while this may be so, and it may be only a few days from the start of spring, I do have to say I enjoy the mix of prints and shades of brown I've managed to make work.
It's just a shame I didn't think of this combination say....back in October; gah!

Eh...in regard to the outfit, I guess the temperature is still working in my favor.
Afterall, the beginning of spring and the end of fall are usually about the same reading on the thermometer.

And even if the flowers are wanting to bloom, and the April showers are right around the corner, one can't say I didn't pull out some of my mix-master skillz with this one.
The dark brown and black of the caridgan are found within the blouse print, while the beige of the boots are practically the same background color of the blouse too.
And then there's my "oh-so-bold for Nickie" efforts with the brick colored lipstick.
YES, LIPSTICK--not even gloss; I know...unheard of!

So I got this one right a little too late, no biggee...least I've got it down for next October.

The Garrott Tee: Look #5-Gothic Lolita (All Grown Up)

OH MY GOTH!

This is a completely different look for me, but oh so appropriate for Garrott Designs' influences/inspirations; and what I believe to be a parallel influence on her designs.

Ever since I got my hands on the "Without My Muse" t-shirt I had a vision of this outfit. I knew at some point in my challenge of 30 Looks/30 Days I would style this up and create my grown-up version of the "Gothic Lolita"

I started off by pulling out all the layers, piling on the accessories, and before long I came to the finished look.

(However, looking back on it, I'd probably pair my vintage velvet bolero with it just to pull it all together and make it just a smidge more "grown up" than it already is)

While this is a far cry from my usual look, it was rather quite fun to put it all together.

--I started off with a sheer chiffon polka dot Betsey Johnson dress--its oh so girly, and very frilly...and I've never worn it! Hmmm, probalby because I am not usually girly and frilly but in a moment of weakness I completely broke down and bought it last year.

--Then, on top I put the Garrott Tee and let the ruffly collar of the dress to peek out at the neckline--just for some victorian-esque shits and giggles.

--And of course the tulle tiered tutu like skirt...it always makes my outfits frothy and fun.

--I did however forgo the typical maryjanes one would most likely pair with such an outfit...instead I chose my sky high lace up booties--I feel I should wear these more often and I just don't-maybe its because if I wore them to the office I'd just feel impractical moreso than I usually am.

Maybe this weekend I'll give them a go???

Anyhow, back to the outfit at hand...

--throw on some lacy knee-highs or stockings and a few pearly details like a bracelet and earrings and how about a big ol' cocktail ring to boot?

And boom! A girly gothic lolita of a lady!

I'm slightly obsessed with hair, specifically MY HAIR. If you know me, you know I'm one to comb thru magazine after magazine, hair site after site, constantly seeking out the perfect-slightly edgy, hairstyle for my noggin'. As soon as I walk out of the salon I'm thinking of what I'll do to it when I walk back in there 8wks later for a trim. (er....totally new cut as is usually the case).

So, it was much to my delight when Misikko (a leading online store of professional styling tools, such as The Babybliss Pro and Professional Hair Dryers) contacted me to try out one of their best selling professional Flat Irons.

Most of my hairstyles require razor sharp edges, sleek tresses, and STRAIGHT hair in order to fully bring out the angles of the style I sport.

So giving me a flat iron to test out is a no brainer! I LIVE for flat irons! I pack mine up with me and take it everywhere--vacation, photoshoots, etc.

Up until I got the Hana Professional from Misikko (shown above) I was content using my typical department store inexpensive flat iron (shown below). I was curious to see how the professional styling tool stood up against is less pricey version...and to see if spending a large percentage more on a professional tool was really worth it.

(I have recently purchased a professional hairdryer to which I can attest that it makes a world of difference...it was well worth the hefty price tag in comparison to the crappy Conair dryer I had used before. Soooooooo with that being said I had high hopes for the Hana Professional and the wonders it might do for my coif)

So let's begin with a little background info on how I go about styling my hair.

First off, I start by blow drying my hair...to which it is left in this wavy natural state...not so great if I want to really show the cut my stylist gave me.

Before the Hana Professional, I had been using a Remington w/ceramic tourmaline plates.

I would turn it on and set it at 320degrees.

(I have babyfine locks, not thick at all, so I don't need to go very high in the temperature unless I want to risk disasterous damage)

Generally, I was always pleased with the efficiency of the Remington...it heated up in a timely fashion, did its job, never caused frizzy fried hair...just after a few weeks my hair would have its typical split ends and wear and tear...but nothing I could blame on cheapie flat iron.

Then, along came my Hana Professional (also with ceramic tourmaline plates).

The instruction booklet (which I read front to back, thank you) instructed me 302 degrees would be an ideal setting.

Done and done!

(although I was a little skeptical about the results considering the temp setting was a whole 18degrees less than my usual...but I trusted the professional advice and went with it for this test).

And here are the results:

The cheapie store-bought version

-I had deep conditioned my hair that morning as I do every Saturday.

-In the end, I have sleek hair and some volume

-This is my version of a good hairday...inexpensive flat-iron does the trick!

The Hana Professional Version

-Again, I deep conditioned my hair as this was a Saturday

-I achieved extreme poker straight hair, but little volume

-I start to notice more frizzies than usual too. Hmmmmm

Overall, I am pleased with the Hana Professional...it heats up really fast, within seconds I swear!

It really does straighten hair, and I mean STRAIGHT!

It doesn't hurt that Misikko offers lots of free perks with the purchase of the flat-iron either; I got a pouch for it-a heat pad to protect the surface where I'd be laying the iron-and it has a 2yr warranty. Not too shabby!

Oh.....and let's not forget to point out the "INSTANT HAPPY FACTOR"--I got it in PINK!!!!!!!!

I will continue to use my Hana Professional, but I will also hold on to the Remington perhaps for travel just in case I am to lose it I won't be heartbroken--were I to leave behind the professional tool, then yes, I'd be a bit heartbroken.

So ladies and gents, if you're in the market for a new flat-iron or other professional styling tool I would suggest checking out Misikko.com. They have a great selection and huge deals, price cuts galore! However, if you do not have cash to throw down on a professional styling tool at this time, then by all means stick with the store-bought inexpensive flat iron.

After my little test-run with both irons, I cannot honestly say the inexpensive version is horrible...not at all--I think the Remington completely holds its own to the Hana Professional.

And, I cannot honestly say the Hana Professional blew the cheapie version out of the water...No, it did its job, but nothing of epic proportions.

Basically, I would be happy with either iron, oh wait...I have both!

(but please...take my advice on the professional hair-dryer thing, seriously...the professional dryer I bought does wonders...dries my hair so much faster, less damage, and just overall a much more wonderful experience and tool to hold in my hand)
