Weekend Rewind: September 11th-12th, 2010

Ah, a quick little Weekend Rewind, for a not so-super-eventful weekend, but ok nonetheless.

Saturday: September 11th, 2010--

It started out innocently enough...a dinner of noodles.  I could totally go for this right about now (starving)

I was running around with some of my Dolls , hit up our new East Village clubhouse to see if it would suffice as our regular hangout spot when in that 'hood--pretty safe to say the oldies on the jukebox sealed the deal.

That same night I decided my vest goes with anything I want to wear--so maybe it doesn't really, but it definitly adds a little spark, whether or not it really "goes" with the outfit--you be the judge  (Just remember to think before you speak...my name afterall is "Joan Threat"--that's scary stuff!)

I realize I didn't even snap an outfit shot...so you'll just have to imagine the lower half.
I was wearing:

-Brown knee-high suede and leather boots, Franco Sarto (via DSW)--is that the name??

Sunday: September 12th, 2010--

I spent my entire day and afternoon at home.  I had big plans to take 4 bags of clothing to Buffalo Exchange--misty rain and not-so-pleasant weather told me to nix that idea for now.

Later in the evening it was time for me to get dressed and head off to the village for the Chictopia10/Juicy Couture afterparty.  (Not so much my thing again as it ranks right up there with FNO stuff to me--see my last post for thoughts on that.  But, Nikka having RSVP'd for 5 of us convinced me it would be fun and fine since we'd be friends amongst out own little selves.  Ok she's right...and it was fun for a Sunday).

I pulled out this ol' frock...I wore it to my 26th birthday party so long ago...thought I'd see if it still fit and if so I'd give the ol' girl another whirl.  Oh it fit...woohoo!

So off I went, out into the misty rain, to attend the Chictopia party.  Where as usual, I quickly jumped on board with the "free drinks" thing...

Browsed the merch, as if I actually wear or am considering a Juicy Couture purchase (yep, pretty much this photo is not real life stuff going on here...the only stuff I was interested in perusing really would be the children's clothing.  Not for this adult though, no way no how)

And more free drinks...basically adding to my carelessness in terms of my caloric intake for the day.

Luckily I had these two firecrackers to keep me company because I could hang out with them all day and never tire, two funny sassy friends indeed!

I swear, I wasn't 100% clique-y the whole evening, at times I did talk to people outside my regular NYC based friends.  Now girls, I will say I wasn't overly social, but to those I did meet and greet and mingle with, it was a delight...thanks for saying hi, or letting me say hi to you.

Just a few more things to make you believe I might actually shop at Juicy...actually, it's not too far fetched to picture me in a piece of this jewelry.  However, proudly can I admit I did not purchase anything and I stuck to my guns (those guns being that I DO NOT wear Juicy, nor did I ever own anything with anything written across the butt...Phew!)

Honestly, I probably would've been down for buying this peacock...I wonder its real, like stuffed?  This would make a wonderful bday present for a friend of mine!  Oh the crapiness...its only a decoration, not for sale!  grrrr, its the best thing in there!


Like I said...not too exciting of a weekend.  Sometimes I'm a bore.

Back with a Black-Tie Boom!!!

HOLLA Friends!  I'm back!  Back with some Black-Tie action for ya!

The only reason I kinda took a little time off from blog-land is because there's some total skeeze bag that finds the need to keep tabs on my friend and I via my blog...twitter, and all my other places of social activitiy reporting.  So F-that, you D-bag...yeah its a little annoying, but if its who I think it is, then that's just extra creepy.  So yep--its probably best to lie low and focus on the fashion, not so much my socializing and maybe he'll just get bored reading about my daily outfits.  And maybe he'll go back to the little hole he crawled out of and he'll stop "following" our every vaguely reported move.  (kinda scary, not gonna lie...but I think I got a handle on this).

So onward with the fashion-talk.
Here you've got my real classy, always well dressed, and very put-together coworker--BONNIE.  I've been meaning to do a little thing on her fashion for a while now, its completely 100% different than my own, but I admire that she never comes to work looking like a schleppy mess such as I do about 4 of the 5 days a week.

Right about now you're probably saying to yourself, "damn...she's right, she usually doesn't dress like this...Nickie never is this put together."
Well, ladies (and a few gents--that's YOU creepy dude!)), we had a black tie event to attend on Saturday...my boss's daugther's batmitzvah.  And that means only one thing: WEAR SOME ALBERTO MAKALI AND PARTY LIKE ITS 1999!  (actually, there was no Prince played whatsoever--lots of Lady Gaga action though, and way too much to entertain myself with that I didn't once even make it to the dancefloor-can you believe that?)

Bonnie chose to wear an evening gown from our Spring 2010 collection.  Very signature AM-with its bright colors, and print print print!

I on the otherhand went with one of our more architectural feeling pieces from the new Fall 2010 evening collection (Being an evening designer pays off once in a blue moon when I actually have somewhere fancy to be!)

Maybe it was the all black, or the long silhouette, or the simplicity of the jersey gown, but I felt very TALL!  And we know how I'm obsessed with that!

And the beaded bands meant I didn't even have to wear jewelry!  While I was on the hunt for the past two weeks to find a very bold black cuff of sorts, I just eventually gave up and gave in and went sans jewels.

Good thing, because with some jewels, my Lady Gaga table place/card glasses might've been overkill!

So let's get on with this party coverage, shall we?

After getting our Lady Gaga glasses and table assignments, we made a bee-line for the cocktail hour and snacks.  "Snacks" as in this could've been dinner and being that I was starving I made good use of the available appetizers.
In fact, at 9pm (when we got there) I was so hungry we had to hold off on snapping pics w/our coworkers until we got some sushi, some carved meats, and other such goodness in our bellies.
But then we got down to camera-happy business.

After munching on the food, we went to ogle the nearly naked painted ladies that lined the corridor.  These are not statues folks, oh no....they're very much alive!

Who am I to stand on the sidelines and not jump in on some posing action?


A few hours later, much mingling into it, it was dinner time!  (1am)
We sat down to this delicious and beautiful starter course.  The spring roll was delicious!

Then my main course, pistachio crusted chicken-veggies-and topped w/cranberries.  I could definitely go for some of that right about now!

Oh, and here's the table center piece--AH-MAZ-ING flower arrangements!  I'd love to wear a bustier of flowers...don't know where, but it would be rad.  I'd smell like spring!

After dinner, we got up and mingled some more...then I spotted the CANDY WALL!!!!!  I think the adults were more pleased with this than the children...you would not believe how many adults walked away with bags overflowing with sweets.

I opted for some "self-control" and went with just one Twizzler stick. (and my new pair of glasses I snagged from the children's party room----shhhh, don't tell!)

OK, now onward to the most absurd part of my behavior all evening...
I ALMOST FORGOT TO HAVE DESERT!
Thankfully , Bonnie finally coaxed me back inside to sample the numerous sugary confections....I would've been so angry with myself had I opted to continue socializing and not tried as many sweets as I did.

First up, I stopped at this woman's depot and snagged some chocolate pastry puff thingy from her hoop skirt.

Then I spent a good 30seconds figuring out if I wanted to try one of these from the Tower of Treats.
I told myself, "NO"--mainly because I was then whisked away by my short attention span when I saw some cute little pink iced chocolate looking bite-sized deserts (meaning I could eat them without getting it all over myself)

And its not like those pink things held my attention any longer than that tower of pastries when smack dab in front of me was just one of a few huge tables lined with cakes, pies, you name it!
-Needless to say I had a HUGE HUGE HUGE sugar high going once I finally left the desert area about 30min later.

Ah ha!  Leave one area of goodies, and you find another area of goodies....HOOKAH!  (and let me assure you this was very much LEGAL stuff going on here...just a little flavored tobacco and many puffs later).

Obviously a few puffs into it and I remembered how much better it would be if I whipped out my Gaga glasses.

And Bonnie joined in too...

I could've sworn I started this blog post out by saying how classy and well put together she was, right?
ummmmm........there's a reason we get along!

And after about an hour w/the hookahs, it was time to call it a night and head off to sleep away all the fun that a night like this brings....
My boss seriously throws the best parties EVER!

Daily Wear: and Corinne McCormack eyewear

Tonight I skipped down the road from where I work and found myself at the Corinne McCormack party...she's launching the new season of eyewear and somehow yours truly was found in the sea of everyone else and invited to view the collection.  (this never happens to me--I'm not one of those bigtime bloggers that brands just invite to see stuff...no way, I'm lame).

Corinne McCormack has some pretty great eyeglass frames for those wanting something a little more bold, unique, and not the run of the mill type frames.  Mostly I found her things were reading glasses, but I'm certain I was missing out on something-there's real eyewear frames in there too.

I got some lens cleaner (which I might give to my new spectacle wearer, Idee_Geniale), and a fancy little chain to attach to my glasses (too bad I LIVE in my contacts 24/7...shhhh! don't tell my eye doctor that I almost always fall asleep in my contacts).

I actually didn't take my outfit photos at the party, don't think this woman's showroom is a dilapidated ol' stairwell like my backdrop is here.  Nope, that's just the crusty stairwell leading up to my roof-I've taken a liking to it for my outfit photos.

Today, knowing I had a little "outing" after work, I decided to wear something other than my typical "I'm going to be beading gowns and running around all day" uniform.  I opted for a dress I bought when I was in the Poconos over Memorial Day Weekend.  I don't wear it often, just once before...its so very prim and proper--really uncharacteristic for me actually.  However, I can tell you, when it comes summertime I do tend to dress a little more ladylike on occasion.  I think its just the weather, the heat plays tricks on my head and makes me believe I am a classy dame like that.  Not that this dress is a bad thing, but it kinda makes me laugh how this side of me comes out moreso during the summer rather than the cooler months.  No joke, I have a closet full of these ladylike dresses--and they're all summertime appropriate.  Bring on the 50degree temps and I resort to my skinny jeans, tshirts, and bomber jacket ALL THE TIME!

But yes, I felt the need to look like a lady considering I had an "event" to attend.  I didn't want/need to show up looking like a slob.  Yikes!  NO

So here I am....wearing:

Oh the best part of the evening, I completely almost forgot to mention it, was the psychic they had at the party.  I had a quick spiritual reading in which Sable (that was her name) read my energy and gave me some feedback on what she was channeling.
Supposedly I am very feminine in terms of relationships, as in I wear my heart on my sleeve and fall too  easily, but I wear a mask that shows the world one thing, like I'm smiling, when inside I'm really not happy whatsoever right now, I'm feeling "lost" (ok, pretty accurate--I do wear a mask 99% of the time...suckers, and you thought I was just always this unemotional, I just don't want everyone to know I have feelings all the time!  That's just WEAK!)

And supposedly I'm masculine in terms of how I deal with my occupation (true.  very much so, being dainty and girly and emotional in the workplace will get you NOWHERE)

And, best yet---supposedly she sees nothing wrong with me, other than I tend to get into longterm relationships that go nowhere, neither forward or backward...but within this year I will find what I am looking for and she sees Marriage (we'll leave out the part about how she sees a family in my near future...because UM-NO THANKS!).  But Marriage?  In a Year?  Am I going to get married in Vegas while being highly intoxicated or something?  As long as I get married by an Elvis-dude, I could probably deal...its my dad I'm not so sure about!  hahahaa.

She gave me her card, for a more indepth, longer reading...should I go back?  I've always been intrigued in this and I do believe in it (sorry mom, not so catholic of me I know).  Do you guys think this stuff is legit?  Or just hocus-pocus...vague-A$$ stuff, a way to flush your money down the drain?  I'm curious...would you seek out spiritual guidance from someone who can read your aura and energy?
