Weekend Rewind: September 11th-12th, 2010

Ah, a quick little Weekend Rewind, for a not so-super-eventful weekend, but ok nonetheless.

Saturday: September 11th, 2010--

It started out innocently enough...a dinner of noodles.  I could totally go for this right about now (starving)
DSCN6411
I was running around with some of my Dolls , hit up our new East Village clubhouse to see if it would suffice as our regular hangout spot when in that 'hood--pretty safe to say the oldies on the jukebox sealed the deal.
DSCN6413
That same night I decided my vest goes with anything I want to wear--so maybe it doesn't really, but it definitly adds a little spark, whether or not it really "goes" with the outfit--you be the judge  (Just remember to think before you speak...my name afterall is "Joan Threat"--that's scary stuff!)
DSCN6414
I realize I didn't even snap an outfit shot...so you'll just have to imagine the lower half.
I was wearing:
-My girl gang vest, duh
-Vintage printed mini-dress, Beacon's Closet
-Brown knee-high suede and leather boots, Franco Sarto (via DSW)--is that the name??
-Vintage brown structured bag, Thrift Store

Sunday: September 12th, 2010--

I spent my entire day and afternoon at home.  I had big plans to take 4 bags of clothing to Buffalo Exchange--misty rain and not-so-pleasant weather told me to nix that idea for now.
IMG_1049
Later in the evening it was time for me to get dressed and head off to the village for the Chictopia10/Juicy Couture afterparty.  (Not so much my thing again as it ranks right up there with FNO stuff to me--see my last post for thoughts on that.  But, Nikka having RSVP'd for 5 of us convinced me it would be fun and fine since we'd be friends amongst out own little selves.  Ok she's right...and it was fun for a Sunday).
IMG_1078
I pulled out this ol' frock...I wore it to my 26th birthday party so long ago...thought I'd see if it still fit and if so I'd give the ol' girl another whirl.  Oh it fit...woohoo!
IMG_1071
Wearing:
-White vintage dress, Love Saves the Day
-Black booties, Steve Madden
-Black opaque tights, HUE
-Silver Best Friends necklace, Etsy
White after Labor Day
So off I went, out into the misty rain, to attend the Chictopia party.  Where as usual, I quickly jumped on board with the "free drinks" thing...
IMG_1096
Browsed the merch, as if I actually wear or am considering a Juicy Couture purchase (yep, pretty much this photo is not real life stuff going on here...the only stuff I was interested in perusing really would be the children's clothing.  Not for this adult though, no way no how)
IMG_1099
And more free drinks...basically adding to my carelessness in terms of my caloric intake for the day.
IMG_1097
Luckily I had these two firecrackers to keep me company because I could hang out with them all day and never tire, two funny sassy friends indeed!
IMG_1089
I swear, I wasn't 100% clique-y the whole evening, at times I did talk to people outside my regular NYC based friends.  Now girls, I will say I wasn't overly social, but to those I did meet and greet and mingle with, it was a delight...thanks for saying hi, or letting me say hi to you.
IMG_1094
Just a few more things to make you believe I might actually shop at Juicy...actually, it's not too far fetched to picture me in a piece of this jewelry.  However, proudly can I admit I did not purchase anything and I stuck to my guns (those guns being that I DO NOT wear Juicy, nor did I ever own anything with anything written across the butt...Phew!)
IMG_1095
Honestly, I probably would've been down for buying this peacock...I wonder its real, like stuffed?  This would make a wonderful bday present for a friend of mine!  Oh the crapiness...its only a decoration, not for sale!  grrrr, its the best thing in there!
IMG_1092

Like I said...not too exciting of a weekend.  Sometimes I'm a bore.

Weekend Rewind: February 12-14th, 2010--PT. 2

Part Two of the Weekend Rewind:

The Outfits!

Friday: February 12, 2010

Rough Night out...came home too late after a long day of work.
And this photo, everything about it, it explains the state I was in-
fuzzy, poorly focused, messy, too much clutter in the background
Photobucket
If only I had managed to have one of the blogger ladies to take an outfit shot at Three of Cups I could've refrained from what I've posted here. Too much fun meeting them to stop and ask if someone would take my pic though. I'd feel too silly at such a request, even if that's what we're all into, no way could I have posed in front of semi-strangers and gotten much better results.

The outfit:
*Purple blouse w/black fringe-BCBGeneration
*Black turtleneck-thrift store
*Black pencil skirt-H&M
*Black opaque tights-Hue
*Black boots-Jessica Simpson
*Silver vintage owl necklace-Thrift Store

Saturday (morning/day): February 13, 2010
Photobucket
Off to breakfast with some of the blog girls (see previous post)
Photobucket
Then onward to the Chictopia 10 Conference.

The Outfit:
*Black 3/4 sleeve jacket-H&M
*Black dress-Nicole Miller
*Printed fringe scarf-H&M
*Black/Gold skinny belt-Forever 21
*Black leggings-Flexees
*Black boots-Jessica Simpson
*Gold bangle bracelets-Forever 21
*Gold vintage earrings-a past bday gift (thanks Laurie!)

Saturday (night): February 13, 2010

(Don't forget if you want to join Rent-the-Runway, it's invite only...so go here)

Too bad my dress was a size too big in the waist and hips--darn ill proportioned body of mine!
It bothered me all evening that in reality a dress like this should've been altered to fit skin tight. It's a pity that I had to return it, therefore being unable to snip and sew, pin it, fix it.
Subtleties like this make me fidget all evening-it really bothered me, I hope no one noticed.

The Outfit:
*Black vintage velvet jacket-Vintage Store in Kalamazoo, MI
*Gray optical illusion dress-Robert Rodriguez Collection
*Black opaque tights-Hue
*Black patent-leather maryjanes w/crazy heel-Jessica Simpson
*Silver chain necklaces-H&M
*Silver vintage necklace-Thrift Store
*Silver sequin cuff-Wet Seal
Photobucket
Hey Jess--clearly I'm a fan of your shoes;
as silly as it may be to admit to liking something Jessica Simpson related.
But your shoes--they're fun, comfortable for all their height, and never a blister!
More please!

(Valentine's Day = Laundry Day)
Photobucket
As I already mentioned, BF let me down...so I saw no reason to get all spiffy in hopes of a dinner or movie, or flowers, or chocolates.
Instead, it was me and the laundromat.

Curious, as I've always been about this subject, but what do you all wear for laundry day?
(or do you wear your pjs cause you're lucky enough to have a washer/dryer in your place?)

The Valentine's Day Outfit
("hopelessly romantic" I know-psshhha!):
*Gray chunky sweater-who knows
*Beige t-shirt-H&M
*Skinny jeans-Uniqlo
*Brown cowboy booties-Steve Madden

-AND NO BANGS--YIKES!
(Large Forehead Alert: could be as bad as my Friday nite outfit pic...sorry)

Weekend Rewind: February 12-14th, 2010--PT. 1

This Weekend Rewind is going to be a Two Parter!
first part tonight-The EVENTS
second part-next post-The OUTFITS

Let me preface for any of my new readers-there was a huge, I mean HUGE amount of fashion bloggers all over NYC this weekend.
If you're unaware of it all, well there was a blog conference organized by Chictopia. Needless to say we all just HAD to attend.

Although let me tell you, I enjoyed all the time together OUTSIDE the conference best!

(Actual conference, ummmmmm not so much! Let's just say I dozed off SEVERAL times!)

After seeing the below, you'll know exactly why our FREE TIME together was much more exciting than the poor acoutics and a ill-advised seating arrangements @ Chictopia 10.

Friday: February 12, 2010
3 of Cups-Blogger Meet-up
Mel and I had been discussing for over a month where we should attempt a blogger meet-up. I went with my trusty, please everybody, fave bar about town-THREE OF CUPS.
I'll be the first to admit I was more than delighted by the turnout
(actually, I had all but given up on having anyone other than myself, Mel, and our out-of-town friend, Christina being there. Clearly.....I was mistaken! But that's a good thing.)
3 of Cups-Blogger Meet-up
Merl from ClydesRebirth and Christina from SecondSkin
Redhead Mel
Mel from Idee_geniale (of course) testing out red hair courtesty of Merl.
(Oh and can I just tell you that not only does ClydesRebirth have some of the most beautiful and fun jewelry EVER-check it on her blog....but her personality is amazing! This girl is top-notch fun. Love her!)
Lil' Rocker kid
And then out of nowhere, the youngest rock star known to man popped up on the scene.
(seriously, don't know where he came from or why his parents let him act like this in public. Pretty certain had this been me and my parents when I was 8, well I'm not sure...we were never allowed to leave the table and ever do something rambunctious in a restaurant to begin with. But, I'm not gonna lie--he was entertaining!!)
Groupie

And out came my inner groupie!

Groupie
And after the performance, he left a rich man. I gave him a dollar!
(but only after asking for change from the bartender firstly. Haha, I know....class act Nickie!
C'mon I was not about to give that lil' punk my $10!)

Breakfast before Chictopia10

Saturday morning came about much too soon after all of my fun on Friday.

Yet, I was not about to miss a chance to have a little blogger brunch with girls from some of my favorite blog reads.

I mean DELIGHTFULLY TACKY--HELLOOOOO!
(I'm a geek w/a few really FAVE FAVE reads obviously)
She's such a fun girl w/great style.

And they were all super nice...since I have to admit I was a little shy about the brunch knowing that really I was only invited because I was tagging along with Mel. But everyone was very sweet and great to talk with, so it turned out just swell!
(You all know what I'm talking about right? You know like when you were friends with the popular girl in high school but not really any of her friends. Haha! Yeah, that's how I felt going into it! In the end I'm happy--and I felt kinda cool when everyone seemed to enjoy my suggestion of going to the legendary Economy Candy Store afterwards and they had to rely on my navigation skills to get us to said Candy Store.)
Breakfast before Chictopia10
I didn't manage to get everyone in attendance on camera in my little random shots, but if you're curious to know it was Me, Idee_Geniale, Second Skin, Selective Potential, Delightfully Tacky, Blonde Bedhead, Orchid Grey, and Jen Loves Kev
breakfast before Chictopia10
oh, Oh , yep....Mel and I AGAIN!
By now my Weekend Rewinds should just be called "What Mel and Nickie did this Weekend"
___________________________________________________________________
After the blogger breakfast, it was onward to the Chictopia 10 conference....where I didn't feel the need to ever pull my camera out of my bag. Sorry readers.
I just wasn't feeling it, oh UNTIL THE LAST SEGMENT. I have to admit the fashion show(s) were the highlight of the day!

Saturday Night:
The Chictopia 10 After party...
Chictopia10-Afterparty
Kim from Crowded Closet (you might remember Mel and I met those ladies a few weeks back)
-is it me, or does Kim have the most flawless skin EVER?

By the time I arrived, about an hour and a half late (fashionably late of course), people were already on the dancefloor. Showgirl Godzilla (my new long lost friend...can't wait to hang out again) and I decided it's because they were from out of town :)
Just kidding ladies!
Dancing is fine by me....I was born to dance.

Just wasn't born to dance at swanky hotels like the Tribeca Grand.

I'm much more of a dive bar and jukebox kinda girl. I barely know Lady Gaga songs, let alone whatever else they were playing last night. So yeah....not my thing.
(So pretty much a half hour after my arrival I bolted back home and ended the night with Apollo Ono and some speedskating Olympic style--LOSER!
-me, not Apollo Ono)
Chictopia10-Afterparty
Blonde Bedhead and Delightfully Tacky had no problem cut'n the rug though!
Awesome.

Chictopia10-Afterparty
And my trio...Mel, me, and Christina.
I feel like I'm standing between two sisters, aaaah. Or maybe 3 sisters, only if that were the case I'd be the milkman's baby by the looks of this! haha

So there you have it. My crazy Blog-O-Mania weekend!

I did nothing but laundry, not even a Valentine's surprise for me :(
BF failed BIG TIME on that front! oooopsie boyfriend-way to go!
___________________________________________________________________

But........ if it's Valentine's Day.......doesn't that mean it's time for my FAVE RAVE GIVEAWAY?

Yep-it's time!

Actually as I type this it's 11:40pm, so let's get this show underway.
ahem....cough cough.

AND THE WINNER IS:

Woohoo! Congratulations!
I'll contact you tomorrow and we'll get this Fave Rave Surprise underway and shipped out!

(winner was chosen @ random by having BF give me a number between 1 and the # of entries I had. His # was 17)

Life is just a Party

And parties weren't meant to last....

(Quick, who sang that line?  Ummmmm maybe "THE PURPLE ONE"!  A.K.A. my little 5'2" cutie--PRINCE)

And I just so happened to choose the color purple for my IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers)

Dress-Up Soiree

party outfit.
IFB Party,my outfit
Wearing:
*Purple metal taffeta cocktail dress-Alberto Makali (of which I am the eveningwear designer)
*Black satin sandals-Chinese Laundry
*Silver faux leather clutch-Steve Madden
IFB party
The night started out with a discussion panel of bloggers, computer techies, and helpful insight into the world of blogging with tips and pointers galore.  Too bad we didn't show up early, and the line prevented Mel and I from getting in and grabbing a seat.  Therefore we were stuck downstairs, just hearing mumbled words from the mezzanine where the panel held court.  In fact, the group downstairs was rather restless due to lack of audio, and can you believe it......we were "SHUSSSHED!", what is this--grade school?

However, being downstairs had it's perks.   Afterall, I got to meet the below gaggle of girls:

IFB party
Charise-above (forgive me if name spelling is incorrect) of Purple*Bliss

IFB Party
Nubia-above left of Nubias Nonsense and Mary-above right, designer of gla.MAR.ous
(Mary by the way designed both of the dresses above....nice job!)

And while one of my newly found FAVE bloggers (and a fellow Hoosier--so how could I not like her?) was not there, I do have to give her a shout-out as she was projected on the big screen:
IFB party
It's Indiana Adams of Adored Austin-above
(Side Note-this girl makes me laugh so much, her blog is so real, down-to-earth and hilarious!)

It was a quick night of meeting lots of fun fashion lovin' girls--whether they blog, design, or just came along for the swag (oh....I got a pot of my fave benefit lip gloss; SCORE!) whatever the case.  Good times, but I had to retire early.

Never fear, this girl was back in party mode by Tuesday evening!
Chictopia party,my outfit
After a quick trip home from work, I washed up and threw on a bright-a$$ dress!
It was time for the

Chictopia/Forever 21 party

(also held at Broadway East, where I was at the same time the night before).
my outfit,Chictopia party
I took special pains to prepare my hair in such a fashion that from one side you'd think I chopped my hair into a 60s coif--afterall the dress' silhouette is somewhat reminiscent of 1960's minidresses, no?  (Regardless, this is what I felt and why I did my hair up just like so)
my outfit,Chictopia party
I also spent over 2 weeks deliberating on what dress I would wear.  The bright one won out in the end.  This is from my company's sportswear division, sadly I cannot take credit for this one's awesome design work.  No issues there, as long as I get to wear it!
my outfit,Chictopia party
And the next bit of attire I need to mention are THE SHOES!  I rushed out Sunday afternoon in search of some new kicks to wear to this week's events.  I found nothing I had in mind....but when you have a coupon for $20 off anything, and in addition a stellar pair like these babies ring up at 30% off, that equates to a freakin $60+ savings!  I just adore these peep-toe booties and I plan to wear them till there's no more platform tread on them!  They're amazingly easy to walk in, no achy feet, and to my delight they allow me to tower above everyone (muah ah ah ah, just as I like it.)
my outfit,Chictopia party
Wearing:
*Black satin butterfly wing print dress-Alberto Makali
*Black patent-leather vintage purse-Thrift Store
*Black opaque tights-HUE
*Black leather peep-toe booties-Steve Madden

While I wish more actual Chictopia members would've come out, it seemed as those most were there by some form of Forever 21 invite.  And therefore, I recognized only about 6-7 people at the whole event.  And at that, I only talked to about 4 of them--as I'm not that well known on Chictopia so no need to make a specatacle of myself.
Yet, I'm happy with the meetings I did have, it was rather nice to put an online face with an actual being.
Here I give you the fab girls I had the pleasure of speaking with:

Chictopia party,Mel
Mel-above, of Idee_geniale glory (of course, who else do you think I would've gone with?)
IFB party,Chictopia party
Jennine-above of The Coveted
Chictopia party
Kelly-above (A.K.A. msthang77 on Chictopia)
Chictopia party
msthang77-above left and NickieSIXX-above right
(Of course I had to get a pic of her and I together.  You know, NYC Chictopians gotta stick together!)

There were many other nice, fun, interesting people at the parties.  I know I've missed out with picture opportunities of many, and with many.  Indeed I hope I got your info so as to visit your site, blog, whatever very soon!  That means you Pamela (from Market Publique) and you Cate (from WWD); I had a wonderful time with all of you!  And I hope we can all meet up again soon at another one of these events.

Until then, I must catch up on sleep--a weeknight party girl I am no longer.  Late nights catch up with a girl of my age (yes, check the countdown on my blog--soooooooo little time until I turn the big 3-0!  Yikes, time for beauty sleep right?).
