Daily Wear: LBD for a Waterworks Presentation
Today was a horribly rainy start to the day...the weather was a perfect portrayal of a few old friends' and some acquaintances emotions. A dreary, rainy day-setting the tone for what was already a pretty depressing morning ahead of us.
I'd like to think I don't always dress this "BLACK" even though I have a closet full of black clothing. The reason I'm wearing a classic Little Black Dress is because I had a funeral/memorial service to attend this morning. It's always best to go classic and chic for such a somber occasion. Am I right?
These types of situations are always tough, I find them extremely saddening, especially when I see the overwhelming despair tugging at the heart's strings of the deceased one's family members. Really really heartbreaking, and we all know I'm not one to get too emotional...but these things--gah! They're the worst. My eyes well up with tears, I struggle to not blink (for fear those watery eyes will give way to real tears--thank god for classic Maybelline Waterproof Mascara!), and I get that burning feeling in the back of my throat as I keep myself from crying.
So while I may not have been the closest of friends to him, I know I shared my first 3years of living in NYC with this guy. He was my first roomate in NY, living with him was a constant party....laughs, good times, nothing but hilarious memories. Even when he'd piss me off by eating my packed lunches sometime in the middle of the night--I really don't have anything negative to say about him. If it were not for this guy, I would not have forged some of the best friendships of my life--he introduced me to a wonderful group of his friends to which about 3-4 of them to this day are really dear to me.
So former roomate of mine, I hope you rest in peace...while you were taken from your friends and family way too soon, you will always be remembered in my mind for the vigor and zest you had in your every day living....I will never forget how much fun it was to live with you, all the late nights out when we don't even remember getting home, and stupid things like the rainy Memorial Day when we had a George Forman-BQ in your bedroom because it was too wet to grill outside. Or the one too many times you tried to make-out with my friends--all I know is these thoughts bring laughter to an otherwise sad moment in time. I'm certain others will miss you tenfold more than I will, but nonetheless you've made a dent in my life, you'll always be remembered--and you'll forever be my first roomate in NYC. (that's a role that packs a lot of punch in my life)
So yeah, sorry to be such a Debbie-Downer today...but its a Debbie Downer kinda day. And sorry that I wasn't talking about Waterworks as in the utility card in my fave boardgame, Monopoly. But waterworks--that's my tearducts when it comes to these things. (Again, showing I really am a human with some actual real feelings...not so tough now am I?)

So sorry friend. Remember that you do have freedom to grieve. I'm happy that you do have such sweet memories of him. Death sucks.
I'm really sorry to hear that someone you were so close to passed away. The last funeral I went to was for someone I grew up with in my church. The funeral itself actually had people laughing, if you can believe it. He was just that kind of guy (a jokester) so lots of funny memories. I hope the funeral you attended was similar in spirit. Happy memories are always the best.
Aw, I'm sorry to hear that you lost someone :( I've been to way too many funerals, and they don't get any easier, y'know?

Awww my condolences, Sometimes it's nice to have bad weather with a sad day. It just seems so wrong to have a beautiful sunny day with birds chirping when you are mourning.

I am sorry to hear about that, but your outfit is still gorgeous.
So sorry for your loss. Even though you may not have been close recently, it's always sad to see someone go whose made an impact on your life. Especially so when it's someone young. I feel silly and trite making comments about your outfit when there's a funeral involved, but lucky for you tact is not my strong suit. So I'm digging the get up, especially the necklace - it's very reminiscent of a men's neck tie in shape - which I love!
