Dusty Rose Vintage: Sixx goes '60s

IMG_8267
It's been a long long time since I did a Dusty Rose Vintage post.
Maybe because its been a long while since I've done some work with them.
(Although I have a whole vault of images and outfits I never even blogged about, so really there is no excuse other than "way too much other blog content" to write about...riiiight!)

I need to get back into the swing of things and keep you up to date with the Dusty Rose collaborations; as they're always a great time, great clothes, and great girls.

This time we had a shoot with my girl gang, The Downtown Dolls
We are a force to be reckoned with, both on the mean streets of Brooklyn and in the DRV Headquarters.
one of DRV's favorite things to put me in would be those lovely 1960's dresses.
Usually I happily abide because I do love them myself.
This time was no different--out comes the Ditzy Floral Print ' 60s frock, and onto my body it goes!
Yes Please!

Awe, its nice to be back into the DRV swing of things...get ready for some more shenanigans between us crazy girls and their cool vintage garb; it only means fun ensues.
In the meantime...ignore my lazy eye!
And run along to Dusty Rose's Etsy store
where you can pick up this '60s neutral Peter-Pan collared Shift Dress...
or the other two looks by my fave lil' shorties shown above.

Dusty Rose Vintage: Fab Floral Fix

From the past photoshoots of Dusty Rose Vintage and the gals....
I give you a Fab Floral Fix of Vintage Lovelies.

I thought I'd dig around and present you with something I fell behind on posting--something from our shoot in Prospect Park/Park Slope a while back.

And Woah!  That's a lot of easter-looking, springtime flower power going on, isn't it?

IMG_8771
Once again, this goes to show you how much fun it is to be a part of the Dusty Rose photoshoots.  I would probably never ever, EVER, find myself veering towards a frock like this.  But why not?  It's freakin feminine and well, just floraly!
Oh yes, that's why not...its probably way too girly for me to figure out what to do with it if left to my own devices. Yet, it's a good time to give a different look a-go, try something off-the-wall "not me at all" for a change.  I feel very KY Derby in this, or southern, or yeah....you get it, its not me.

However, I'm certain there's somebody out there that these floral numbers are perfect for!

And Nikka (who's going to be on freakin' broadway!!!!  Congrats friend!) is wearing a 1980's Fishtail Dress

And Mel is wearing a Pastel Floral Babydoll Dress-for sale HERE

So as always, don't forget to check out Dusty Rose Vintage's Etsy shop for these dresses and other great vintage pieces

My lil' Side Note:

Wow!  What a difference 3 months can make....So many little things are different now, mostly just little things I see-no one else would notice so much.
(I.E. my hair is much fuller and a bit longer now, I've lost about 2lbs-haha 2lbs!, and I no longer live at this location--sad but true, I miss the old brownstone and its stoop sometimes-boohoo, weep weep).
Its just funny how many things can change in such a short period of time.  And its amazing just how fast time is flying, this photo seems like it was just yesterday-but in actuality I remember, it was May 1st!  Yep, time IS flying-yay, that means summer will be over soon!  Bring on the turtlenecks and boots please!

Dusty Rose Vintage: Crochet Concoctions

Ok first things first--I NEVER wear things like this, I am not cool w/my stomach being on view this much. (There, I am telling you I'm human, I actually have some insecurities.  Just I realize I've got a lot more PLUSSES outweighing the few minuses so I don't dwell too much on these few insecurities.)  But for the sake of time travel--that being me dressing up and warping my mind back to 1970 something--I was willing to brave my insecurity a little bit in order to do this Dusty Rose Vintage 'shoot.
Woodstock
Ever since I put this top on, everytime I think about it, or look at the pictures, I just want to hitchhike out to San Fransisco...all the while singing that one line, "If you're going to San Fransisco...be sure to wear some flowers in your hair."
And of course, I completely and most definitely want to put on some patchouli!  Duh--what other fragrance would I wear with this?  I talk about my love of earthy patchouli all the time!
il_430xN.157661365
Ah, but seriously--this top is so cool.  Too bad I don't have the confidence to wear something like this on a regular weekend day...say walking around Williamsburg.  Yeah right!  But all you skinny, flat ab ladies out there, GO FOR IT!  I think you could rock this 10x better than I could...just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
(clearly I forgot my flowers)

*1970s Pastel Pink Crochet Bikini Halter Top -click HERE for details

Other articles of clothing include:
*DIY cut-offs, Gap
*Brown sunglasses, H&M
*Brown sandals, Target
*Vintage belt, Dusty Rose Vintage's very own.

And yes, by far my favorite photo from the 'shoot...Nikka and I...this is such a great picture; I can't decide what to do with it.  It's so fun.  I wish all my days were spent just lounging with the girls on rooftops, soaking up the sun, looking cool like we do here (ah but alas, this is all just a game of dress-up)

Note: Nikka's crochet top is still available at DRV's shop too!

Dusty Rose Vintage: She's Always a Woman to Me

"She Can Kill With a Smile, She Can Wound with Her Eyes
il_430xN_154675793
She Can Ruin Your Faith with Her Casual Lies
il_430xN_154675824
And She Only Reveals What She Wants You to See
il_430xN_154675940
She Hides Like a Child, but She's Always a Woman to Me"
il_430xN_154682501
yes yes, it's true...I'm always a woman, even when I do my best to be One of the Boys (which is nearly everyday of my life, right?)

Luckily for me, at our most recent Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoot they did their best to dress me like a lady- all they really needed is to show you their wears, but apparently YES- a girl like me can clean up proper.  Who'd thought?
il_430xN_154682748
It makes it even better that the chosen color palatte for my lady-like self was the Burnt Orange/Black/Natural combo you see here.  And if you didn't know, this is ONE OF MY FAVES!
FAVE color combo EVER!  I love putting those tobacco shades of brown with black--I think it pairs up so perfectly with wood accents.  Oh but enough about me and my taste for black and brown together as one, I'm supposed to be showcasing the clothes--not my preferred color schemes.

I'm wearing two particular items of noteworthy goodness:
*1950's Floral Print, Full-sweep Skirt (for sale HERE)
*1980's Ungaro Structured Handbag (for sale HERE)

and let me not forget to mention how much fun these photoshoots are.  I think I say it everytime, only because it's 100% TRUE!  I get to hang out with my girls, dress up like a lady, and be a part of my favorite color scheme...what's not to like?
IMG_6357
PS-Sorry ladies, the cute scallop shorts on Idee_geniale are already GONE GONE GONE, snatched up by a lucky buyer like nobody's business.  Are we surprised-the scallop short is kinda RIGHT ON TREND! LUCKY gal whoever she was that bought those.

Weekend Rewind: June 25-27th, 2010

Ah the weekend, they seem so far away-then when its finally here, it seems to go by so fast.
This weekend was rather tame, in fact, so tame I was asleep by 10:30pm on Saturday (old lady alert!).  Sometimes a girl just needs to catch up on some zzz's I suppose.

Anyway, on with the post.

Friday: June 25, 2010-
IMG_9563
I was due out in the East Village to meet up with some friends.  As is usually the case with this particular group of friends, we end up at a bar called LIT.  We like the music, we usually start up a dance party before it gets too crowded, then we usually stay well to the point where it gets too crowded (and lets face it, it hinders my dance moves, because I am NOT a close dancer kinda girl. I need my floor space!)

Being that I'm nearing "middle aged" or whatever the youngins' would consider me these days, I find it very important to put together an outfit for such nights out.  I want an outfit that conveys that I am yes-a WEEEE bit older (ok, in some cases A LOTTTTT older--I've got some of them by 9yrs! Maybe this is pathetic?  Whatever, what's wrong with a lady wanting to dance despite the age?) but also that I clearly still have fun and don't dress like a soccer mom (then again, did you see my Poconos outfit?  uhhhhhh--soccer mom attire almost.).

However, maybe its time I do laundry because I was just not having anything in my closet on Friday.  Grrrr...I hate when there's about 100 articles of clothing to mix and match but nothing strikes my fancy.  Lucky me, I had swung past the store earlier that day and picked up a few new tops (which I soooo did NOT need).  This being one of them.  I had planned to save this top and wear it sometime during the day w/some shorts, but it seemed to do the trick for what I had needed/planned for my Friday night out.

Friday Night's Attire Included-

*Skinny Jeans, Express
*Nude Patent Leather belt, NY&Co.

Dancing on a Friday Night

Saturday: June 26, 2010-
IMG_9576
Saturday was spent running around the city returning clothing I had bought for an event but didn't attend.  I had shoes and a bag to return to stores around the Union Square area.
I took care of that, then strolled thru the farmers' market, then stopped in at Barnes and Noble.  Then, well I just found myself at Zara-how did that happen, I don't know?
And of course, I bought a skirt--hey, wasn't I supposed to see how this first month of living in a new place paying real NYC rent goes before I run off and shop?  Yeah, well we'll see how rent goes along with a new skirt--I got it under control, no worries.
IMG_9591
For my little stroll thru the city, I chose to wear a cute little skirt I had purchased last September when Market Publique had a little pop-up Fashion Night Out shop.  We stopped by there for some cupcakes, bubbly, and mingling/browsing.  I walked away with this skirt that has an impossibly tiny waist.  Hence why I have to squeeze into it and hike it up to my natural waistline-there's no way this thing would fit even an 1" lower.
But its a keeper even if I have to suck it in just to get it zipped :) heehee, maybe I like to eat too much candy.
Saturday Attire
Saturday's Attire Included-
*Printed tshirt, F21
*Yellow vintage skirt, Market Publique
*Brown suede sandals, Target
*Brown vintage Coach bag, Thrift Store
*Brown sunglasses, H&M (I think)
*Silver vintage necklace, Thrift Store

Sunday: June 27, 2010-
photoshoot-sunday
Yea...the most exciting day of my weekend! Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoot day!!!!!!  Just a few behind the scenes shots for you all so you see how it all goes down.
I basically make jackass faces and go all trailer trash in my cut-offs when it comes to crochet tops that show off my beer gut.
And then I appear to grimace and look really unhappy when I get to wear cool vintage trunks--are these mens' by the way?
sunday-photoshoot2
We also got to meet Elle-she's the current Dusty Rose Vintage girl.  She's really handy with a camera and she's a super sweet girl--new to the city, so I do hope she hangs out with us some more.  And maybe I can pick up a trick or two from her in terms of what the heck I'm ever doing with my camera-because let's face it, I never even think of switching it off the Auto shots.
sunday-photoshoot3
Never fear kiddies--of course I'll have real photoshoot pics to show off the beautiful things we got to put on today.  In the near future, I promise.

However, my real attire for Sunday went something along the lines of "staying cool"--and I mean that temperature wise, not "cool" as in "I'm hip"...heck no.
(Does anyone even use the word "hip" anyway?)

I just happened to pull out this top that I got at Beacon's Closet the first time I hung out with Mel.  Oh the memories.
Pshshhhhh.
Yes, so this top.  It's interesting because it takes me slightly out of my comfort zone yet doesn't look like it at all, right?
It's got this intriguing little cutout right below the tie at the center front bust.  It proves a little difficult for me to figure out just what to wear underneath sometimes, but this time being so hot I just went for it, as in I went for nothing.  And yeah, that's wayyyyy out of my comfort zone.
But it turned out ok, not too sleazy if I do say so myself.
sunday2
I also wore this owl necklace that I so very rarely ever wear.  I got it at the Brooklyn Flea the first time I ever went there.  I put it in my purse then proceeded to hang out with friends.  By the time we got home that night I had already broke his little lower body off :(
I was bummed because we all know how I go giddy crazy over my vintage owls.
Lucky for me, a quick fix w/some super glue did the trick.  So I could never resell him w/this sloppy glue mess that I did, but it's good enough for me-because am I really ever gonna sell him?  NO!
Sunday-jewelry
Sunday's Attire Included:
*Multi-color vintage top, Beacon's Closet
*Denim shorts, F21
*Brown Dolce and Gabbana wedges, Beacon's Closet
*White vintage owl necklace, The Brooklyn Flea
*Gold braclets, F21
*Brown sunglasses, H&M (again, I think)
sunday3

Ok kiddies--again I've managed to stay up much too late for a Sunday night.  I'm not tired at all but really, its 1:00am and I've gotta get up for that thing called work tomorrow.
Hope it was a good weekend for everyone, sorry to see it end-right?

Dusty Rose Vintage: Fiesta Time!!!!

group2
Oh woah...yeah...2 true stories in this one here post:
1.) Just because I took a month off, didn't mean I took a month off from editing thru my Dusty Rose Vintage pictures.  Oh no--there's still plenty upon plenty from our past photoshoots I haven't had a chance to show you.

2.)We look so festive in our Mexican attire, no?  I mean, no kidding Mel looks cute-her dress is already SOLD!  But I'm pretty sure the pink tunic/dress I'm wearing and the wedding dress Nikka is wearing are still up on DRV's etsy shop; so take a peek.
Nickie1
Dusty Rose put me in this wondefully gauzy 1970s Mexican Tent Tunic--complete with the most airy, breezy, and floaty ruffle sleeves I've ever put on.

It's so perfect belted if one insists upon reigning in the floaty billowy silhouette.
Nickie-back
Or sassy and flirty when the natural drape of the garment is left to it's own devices.
Nickie-3
So much fun, I just can't contain my facial exressions as I show you the very full hem---
ooooh swingy!
Nickie-2
Imagine if you're a little on the petite/short end of the height scale, you could wear this as not only a tunic, but a short lil' dress too!
Nickie-upclose2
Ah, so many possibilities...and its PINK TOO!  Who loves Pink?  Um, THIS GIRL RIGHT HERE!
It would be cool if you like it too.
Nickie-upclose
I'm officially putting a quick link under "Frequencies" (on side bar) for all my Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoots--I think they're some of the best times ever.  And I want to be able to access all those good times real quick!  So you can too if you want.
group
Good times for sure!

PS-And why are my legs so damn shiny in this picture?  It's like that time Gwyneth Paltrow was on Letterman, or the Tonight show, can't remember which--but her legs were outta control shiny.

Dusty Rose Vintage: The Pink Ladies

group2
So here we are...donning some serious pink action for Dusty Rose Vintage!  And action in the form of rollerskates on Idee_geniale!  (I so would've busted my butt had I tried putting on rollerskates, especially on the cobblestone sidewalk--funny thing is, those are my skates!  But Mel's gotten more wear out of them than I have in the 7yrs I've owned them.)

nickie2

So I've been thinking about this dress a while now...and then tonight when I finally had a moment to sit down (since what? Wednesday) to look at my blog I decided to check out this dress in
Dusty Rose's Etsy shop.
What?  I can't even find it in there...I would imagine that means its been SOLD!  Whoever you are, the happy little shopper that you may be...you've scored yourself a gem!  This dress is lovely, beautiful, and the pink can make any girl feel wonderful!
nickie5

upclose-frontnickie

Who wouldn't love a bow detail?  Especially such a striking one, in the back...the perfect little touch, no?
nickie-back2

So while the shown dress may be gone...there's plenty more where this came from. (for instance, Showgirl Godzilla's dress, and Idee_geniale's attire are still available--cuteness alert! Go already-check out DRV's shop!!!) Oh Dusty Rose...you really know how to make a gal drool, I really do love everything you always make me put on.  Its a shame that only after the fact do I realize which pieces I wore that I should probably purchase since I love them so much.  Items like this are too good to last long, and clearly I was too slow about realizing how much I really really liked this one.  I'll keep my eyes peeled for something similar in that shop of yours!
nickie7

________________________________________________________________________
Until next time bloggy buddies--I hope this will last you for a while. (or what? 3minutes?)
Sorry to tell you...but I'm going to be away from blogging for a long long time (a few weeks--that's a LONG time in the blogworld!).  I will of course try to post here and there, it will be very sporadic, nothing regular like I'm used to.  I promise, I'll try to be back to my regular thing by mid-June...but until then...don't forget about me :) please!  It's true; I will be back...just not sure exactly when.
Oh an I promise, when I do get back to blogging...I'll have some interesting news and probably Weekend Rewinds that are waaaayyyyyy more exciting and sociable than they ever used to be!

Dusty Rose Vintage: In Full Bloom

group2
It's finally time I debut my next set of Dusty Rose Vintage photos...little by little my favorite photoshoot to-date will unveil its pretty little self.
nickie1
This time around we ladies (Idee_geniale, Showgirl Godzilla, and myself) headed out to Prospect Park--not that is a longshot, I live nearby, so it was a perfect opportunity for us to play dress up and for Dusty Rose to capture her fine floral print goodies in a lovely outdoor setting.
nickie6
This time, I fell in love with this 1960's Mod Floral Print mini they asked me to wear.  If only there was a way for me to let out that bust dart a bit...story of my life.
I have to say, I absolutely adore this dress, the little floral print, the slight puff in the sleeve, the length of the dress (right up my alley because its no secret that I like to show off my legs and make them look as long as possible).  It's heaven in the form of a creamy concoction of a dress!
nickie4
As I said at the beginning, this was my favorite Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoot yet.  Being outside with the sun beating down, the mimosas and bloody mary's fueling our smiles, it was easy to have fun and c'mon, we love playing dress up.  It was a perfect day, a perfect setting, and perfect group of friends to giggle with. And I just don't know...I just can't sum it up into words...I think I really like the way this group of items turned out.  And yeah, I like this freakin dress SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!

Dusty Rose, how much seam allowance is there in that bust dart?
Hmmmmmm, I think I need this...or the next one I'll be posting in a few days.  Adding to my wishlist right now...mental note, check!  Because well...I feel kinda purty in this.
nickie5
ps-I'm also wearing what may become my favorite summer sandal this season--they make me TALL!  Can you believe these were only $15 at Target?  They don't scream Target at all--or so I want to believe.
(and hey, I am not really knockin' Target, I practically live at that store.)

Weekend Rewind: May 1-2, 2010

If this weekend is any idea of what this summer is gonna be like, well then summertime is in full swing!
The thermometer was rising, I had friends galore to spend time with, and we hung out a bit in the park.  My idea of FUN!

Saturday: May 1st, 2010-
IMG_9001
The day was spent with the girls for yet another Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoot (and I'm not even done posting pics from our last photoshoot, now I've got 350+ new shots to review, edit, and smile about).
With all the vintage dress-up goodtimes, I didn't find the time to take a proper outfit shot of my get-up for the day.
Instead, after the photoshoot, an impromptu hangout session occurred at my place, in which I rather quite tipsily requested my outfit shots be taken.
We all noticed how Tom, one half of Dusty Rose Vintage, was dressed in the same color scheme I chose for the day.  So of course I had to include him in the outfit shots.
IMG_9004
I'm wearing:
-A Vintage Dress, from Buffalo Exchange
-Brown leather platforms, from Target
-and a bit too much Self Tanner, Neutrogena Spray Mist (is that the name?)level 2.

Tom is wearing something along these lines:
-Plaid shirt, maybe vintage?  Maybe just from some men's line, -Gray jeans, not sure from where, -and cool Boat Shoes, again not sure from where.

And apparently he smells like Roses.
This is what happens when I offer up unlimited mimosas and bloody marys, followed by beer ALL-DAY-LONG.    Geez.

Sunday: May 2nd, 2010-
Sunday Girl
Today I spent it as I do every other Sunday; doing laundry.
After laundry BF and I walked around the 'hood and settled on dinner at the Burrito Bar.  It was his birthday on Saturday so I treated him to the place of his choice for a day-late birthday dinner.  I had mini-burgers, nachos, and two delicious strawberry margaritas-YUM!  He had a burrito of some sort; pretty certain I polished off way more food than he did, I'm a bit of a swine sometimes.
IMG_9047
Mel took it upon herself to rip my jean shorts during one of the Dusty Rose sets the day before--I could not wait to take my newly distressed shorts on a test-run.  I mean I liked the DIY of the fray from the summer before, but now I'm excited to let this little rip do its thing next time I wash them.  Thanks Mel for taking my shorts from FINE, to AWESOME!
(I know, the distressed mark is so small, but I've got big plans for making the most of it and making these shorts one pair of a fine broken in gem!  They'll be perfect come summertime)
IMG_9034
Now, I realize that today I took my style to the trailer park.  Yeah, I look like a piece of trash right?  Ah it's fine, I'm pretty certain some other hipster girl was running around in something similar somewhere in Brooklyn, so maybe being "trailer trash" is in.  Fine by me.
IMG_9045
My Sunday Laundry Attire included:
-Vintage pink Jordache shirt, Beacon's Closet
-DIY "newly distressed" Cut-off jean shorts, Gap
-White canvas tennis shoes, Keds
-Bronze octopus necklace, from some boutique in Cleveland
-Purple sunglasses, Forever 21
IMG_9020

So Happy Weekend to you all!  Hope it was a good one!
Was it hot as heck anywhere else?  I think I melted a few million notches everytime I stepped outside this weekend, it was kinda gross!  But exciting to think what this summer will hold in store!
___________________________________________________________

And if you're not yet following Swappy Seconds, please do so.  I'll be posting up lots of summertime clothes and finery throughout the next few weeks.  Tonite I just listed a Coral vintage crochet dress.  It's pretty cute--a perfect poolside cover-up!  Check it out-and let's make a swap!
