Weekend Rewind: Never Too Late for a Lil' Nashville (October 2-3, 2010)

Ok, so internet connections are still extremely spotty and far and few between at my place of residence; Its really putting a damper on my blogging, eh?

I mean, I've been back from vacation for nearly 2 wks now and I'm only now able to give you my first weekend rewind from my Nashville holiday...and that went down at the beginning of October!

Ok kids, let's forget the dates and just go with it...at least I can get this post up...now sure about the next one or when that might occur.

So, as you know in my last post, I did nothing Friday (October 1st) but sleep.  Nice one Nickie!

So needless to say, I was up at the buttcrack of dawn--3am...then back to sleep for a nap...then up bright and early at 7:00am come Saturday morning.

Saturday: October 2nd, 2010

The sun comes up in Nashville and I rise with the roosters. 

I started my day with 3 plates of biscuits and gravy

(needless to say, weight gain was inevitable on my lil' getaway...we'll touch on that later in the vacation).

And as this would come as any surprise, I couldn't resist wearing the jean shorts.  Try as I might to have stored them away now that summer is over...well they just didn't stay packed up for long. 
Look out, now I'm probably going to wear them all winter too.
(Let's face it, I want to be a cartoon character-you know how they always wear the exact same outfit all the time?  well the jean shorts are going to become my staple item whether we like it or not, in fact I think they're already my staple item...the only time I'm not sporting the cutoffs these days is when I'm at work.  And God knows I would do that if they were a little more office appropriate.)

So with the promise of meeting up with AlysonIsNeat, I chose my outfit--got ready for the day--and I was ready to go.  Oh............wait, by this time it was only 8:30am.  Too early to call Alyson, but man was I rarin' to go. 
(This is what happens when you sleep thru the prior evening Nickie-you wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed!)

Finally a few hours later its a decent time in the morning that I can call Alyson and not fear waking her up out of a deep deep sleep.  We make final plans to meet up and check out some vintage sales going on around town.

First stop, I find a table full of the most affordable, cutest-coolest vintage jewelry.
And well, who else does it turn out to be?
Why, its Vested Bee Vintage!
(Now, at this point, I admitted to her in the most crazed fan fashion, well that I follow her on twitter and I know her goods.  Then I get really giddy because she has forgotten her camera and I offer to snap a few shots of her and my purchase.  Too bad the internet has sucked so bad that I cannot get her the pics for 2wks.  Why'd I even offer if I can't follow-through, right?)

And tell me...how undeniably awesome is this clipboard necklace I purchased?  She really did have some of the coolest jewelry around!  It's actually functional! 

(I plan to clip my name to it and wear it to the bars sometime so I don't have to talk to any of the moron meatheads that ask me my name.)

While at the same vintage local, I also purchased a sweet little pin for my gang vest.  I didn't take a picture of it, but I'm certain at some point it will make an appearance. 

It says, "World's Greatest Swinger" on it...now this is so not true, but so very cool!

Afterwards, Alyson and I headed over to the Gulch-which just so happens to be a very nice area of Nashville. Their Urban Outfitters is located there and they were having a little pop-up vintage sale of their own outside the front doors.

Within seconds upon arrival, Alyson had scoured the racks and convinced me I needed to buy a 1980's drapy sequined blouse she has found.  Probably not necessary, but how could I say NO?

Ironically enough, I ended up loving it so much after purchase, I wore it out later that evening.

(although no photos were taken of this lovely number-sometime in the future kids, patience...)

So thanks Alyson, I suppose for living vicariously thru my shopping habits that weekend considering you're in your last few weeks of no shopping (you can do it!)

Oh--here's the proof you're looking for...I really did hang out with AlysonIsNeat...see!  She's on the left, and that's the nice girl behind Closet Case Vintage on the right.

So as shopping drew to a close, Alyson took me back to the hotel where I awaited the arrival of my friend Amanda (actually my BFF's little sis, but I suppose we're friends at this point in our lives)

-A little shout out, Amanda is 1/2 of the duo behind Concocting with Cocktails.

Once Amanda showed up around 2pm, we decided it was high time we head downtown and get our afternoon dose of cocktails!

Downtown is sort of like being in Times Square in NYC.  It's the tourist trap!  So I know its annoying to go there if you're a local...but this was MY TURN to be the tourist, usually its the other way around.

So I took in the touristy fun for all it was worth!

I took an extreme likin' to Paradise Park.

It reminded me a lot of the Trailer Park Lounge here in Manhattan.

Amanda and I began harrasing the band, and hoping our $1 tips would coerce them into playing our requests.  Some were denied, ignored,what have you (er,.....Rocky Top--to which this blog gets its namesake...wtf guys!).  Others were embraced and played immediately (Conway Twitty!)

Even Lil' Homie got into his Nashville travels....He digs Paradise Park as much as we do!

And then...with the afternoon coming to a close, our friend Jaima met up with us and we had a few last minute beers before it was time for dinner.

Good ol' Alyson met me again--2x in one day!  She must like hanging out with me...or vice versa!

True true.

After dinner, we went to see my friend's band, HeyPenny at Exit/In.

Unfortunately we missed HeyPenny...boo!

And no, we are not at the world famous Wild Horse Saloon!

This is a little prop leftover from the craziness of a band by the name of Peelander-Z

All I can say is, "MAD TIGER-MAD TIGER"

We rounded out the night by watching the last of the bands, The Protomen...I enjoyed them immensly and hope they come to NYC sometime soon.  (I wonder if they're here for CMJ actually? I should look this up.)

And a few more drinks with the girls at a jazz-y/funk place before we called it a night

(and Phew!  Was I tired...)

Sunday: October 3rd, 2010
The following day, it was my BIRTHDAY!
We met up with Alyson and her BF at the Germantown Cafe for brunch--Delicious!

Then, we said our goodbyes--promised to visit again, and I told them to come to NY.
And then the rest of us went onward to the Vanderbilt area where we did a little boutique shopping, and more boozin'
We had some birthday cocktails for obvious reasons, and to take it easy--afterall it was Sunday.

Jaima, Above, had sangria which looked quite tasty.

But Abbey, my bff from highschool (below), had the best drink of us all--an alcoholic Root Beer Float.

Being the Bonne Belle chapstick conniseur that I am, I immediately pinpointed the drink as tasting just like their Rootbeer flavored lipgloss-YUM!

And I've since forgotten what Amanda was drinking, it doesn't matter-apparently she just chose to shoot it out of her nose instead--well let's face it, I'm a funny girl and I have this effect on the Wolf family.

Unfortunately kiddies, I was not photographed on my bday.  Not a big deal really considering 31 is a stupid age.  Nothing exciting happens when you're 31, nor do I care to really celebrate such an age-- especially after the crazy bday party I had the year prior, I mean could anything really come close to an Elvis Impersonator?  Definitely not!

And this is how I rounded out my birthday weekend in Nashville.

Vintage View #13

Aaaaaah, the dreaded afterwork photo-op!

Why am I so bad about waking up that extra 5min early to take care of this in the morning when I'm all bright eyed and bushy tailed?

Ok, so here's the deal...

You might recall I wore this last weekend, or in whatever post was my last Weekend Rewind.

Although then, I was not able to get a proper full outfit shot, and I was wearing my girl-gang vest.

This here, well this is more how I planned to wear it that particular Saturday night.

Just goes to show, my weekend attire (although very much on the short side of town) can pull double duty and suit my needs for the "ever so fashionable" fashion industry in which I work.

This dress here, its one of my newer of vintage purchases.  

It's from Beacon's Closet of course, where I find myself frequenting more and more these days.

I like the goldenrod and brown coloration, always a tell-tale '70s sign.

In fact, these shades, along with the rusty tobacco color of the purse, remind me of nothing but the 1970's...even when paired on modern day attire.

Last time I wore it, I think I had way too many eras going on in one outfit...I had the dress, then I had a 1950's brown clutch (same shade as my boots), then I had one of my vintage owls, and then these modern day boots.

I think I did a better job this time around of toning it down a notch knowing the dress speaks loud enough for itself.  No need to go and confuse the general public as to what I'm really going for here.

This time, a little more simplistic, it was key to me really liking my outfit today.

yes yes, it's true...I'm always a woman, even when I do my best to be One of the Boys (which is nearly everyday of my life, right?) 

Luckily for me, at our most recent Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoot they did their best to dress me like a lady- all they really needed is to show you their wears, but apparently YES- a girl like me can clean up proper.  Who'd thought?

It makes it even better that the chosen color palatte for my lady-like self was the Burnt Orange/Black/Natural combo you see here.  And if you didn't know, this is ONE OF MY FAVES!
 FAVE color combo EVER!  I love putting those tobacco shades of brown with black--I think it pairs up so perfectly with wood accents.  Oh but enough about me and my taste for black and brown together as one, I'm supposed to be showcasing the clothes--not my preferred color schemes.

I'm wearing two particular items of noteworthy goodness:

and let me not forget to mention how much fun these photoshoots are.  I think I say it everytime, only because it's 100% TRUE!  I get to hang out with my girls, dress up like a lady, and be a part of my favorite color scheme...what's not to like?

PS-Sorry ladies, the cute scallop shorts on Idee_geniale are already GONE GONE GONE, snatched up by a lucky buyer like nobody's business.  Are we surprised-the scallop short is kinda RIGHT ON TREND! LUCKY gal whoever she was that bought those.

Weekend Rewind: June 25-27th, 2010

Ah the weekend, they seem so far away-then when its finally here, it seems to go by so fast.
This weekend was rather tame, in fact, so tame I was asleep by 10:30pm on Saturday (old lady alert!).  Sometimes a girl just needs to catch up on some zzz's I suppose.

Anyway, on with the post.


Friday: June 25, 2010-

I was due out in the East Village to meet up with some friends.  As is usually the case with this particular group of friends, we end up at a bar called LIT.  We like the music, we usually start up a dance party before it gets too crowded, then we usually stay well to the point where it gets too crowded (and lets face it, it hinders my dance moves, because I am NOT a close dancer kinda girl. I need my floor space!)


Being that I'm nearing "middle aged" or whatever the youngins' would consider me these days, I find it very important to put together an outfit for such nights out.  I want an outfit that conveys that I am yes-a WEEEE bit older (ok, in some cases A LOTTTTT older--I've got some of them by 9yrs! Maybe this is pathetic?  Whatever, what's wrong with a lady wanting to dance despite the age?) but also that I clearly still have fun and don't dress like a soccer mom (then again, did you see my Poconos outfit?  uhhhhhh--soccer mom attire almost.).


However, maybe its time I do laundry because I was just not having anything in my closet on Friday.  Grrrr...I hate when there's about 100 articles of clothing to mix and match but nothing strikes my fancy.  Lucky me, I had swung past the store earlier that day and picked up a few new tops (which I soooo did NOT need).  This being one of them.  I had planned to save this top and wear it sometime during the day w/some shorts, but it seemed to do the trick for what I had needed/planned for my Friday night out.

Saturday: June 26, 2010-

Saturday was spent running around the city returning clothing I had bought for an event but didn't attend.  I had shoes and a bag to return to stores around the Union Square area.
I took care of that, then strolled thru the farmers' market, then stopped in at Barnes and Noble.  Then, well I just found myself at Zara-how did that happen, I don't know?
And of course, I bought a skirt--hey, wasn't I supposed to see how this first month of living in a new place paying real NYC rent goes before I run off and shop?  Yeah, well we'll see how rent goes along with a new skirt--I got it under control, no worries.

For my little stroll thru the city, I chose to wear a cute little skirt I had purchased last September when Market Publique had a little pop-up Fashion Night Out shop.  We stopped by there for some cupcakes, bubbly, and mingling/browsing.  I walked away with this skirt that has an impossibly tiny waist.  Hence why I have to squeeze into it and hike it up to my natural waistline-there's no way this thing would fit even an 1" lower.
But its a keeper even if I have to suck it in just to get it zipped :) heehee, maybe I like to eat too much candy.

Sunday: June 27, 2010-

Yea...the most exciting day of my weekend! Dusty Rose Vintage photoshoot day!!!!!!  Just a few behind the scenes shots for you all so you see how it all goes down.
I basically make jackass faces and go all trailer trash in my cut-offs when it comes to crochet tops that show off my beer gut.
And then I appear to grimace and look really unhappy when I get to wear cool vintage trunks--are these mens' by the way?

We also got to meet Elle-she's the current Dusty Rose Vintage girl.  She's really handy with a camera and she's a super sweet girl--new to the city, so I do hope she hangs out with us some more.  And maybe I can pick up a trick or two from her in terms of what the heck I'm ever doing with my camera-because let's face it, I never even think of switching it off the Auto shots.

Never fear kiddies--of course I'll have real photoshoot pics to show off the beautiful things we got to put on today.  In the near future, I promise.

However, my real attire for Sunday went something along the lines of "staying cool"--and I mean that temperature wise, not "cool" as in "I'm hip"...heck no.
(Does anyone even use the word "hip" anyway?)

I just happened to pull out this top that I got at Beacon's Closet the first time I hung out with Mel.  Oh the memories.
Pshshhhhh.
Yes, so this top.  It's interesting because it takes me slightly out of my comfort zone yet doesn't look like it at all, right?
It's got this intriguing little cutout right below the tie at the center front bust.  It proves a little difficult for me to figure out just what to wear underneath sometimes, but this time being so hot I just went for it, as in I went for nothing.  And yeah, that's wayyyyy out of my comfort zone.
But it turned out ok, not too sleazy if I do say so myself.

I also wore this owl necklace that I so very rarely ever wear.  I got it at the Brooklyn Flea the first time I ever went there.  I put it in my purse then proceeded to hang out with friends.  By the time we got home that night I had already broke his little lower body off :(
I was bummed because we all know how I go giddy crazy over my vintage owls.
Lucky for me, a quick fix w/some super glue did the trick.  So I could never resell him w/this sloppy glue mess that I did, but it's good enough for me-because am I really ever gonna sell him?  NO!

Dusty Rose Vintage: Fiesta Time!!!!

Oh woah...yeah...2 true stories in this one here post:
1.) Just because I took a month off, didn't mean I took a month off from editing thru my Dusty Rose Vintage pictures.  Oh no--there's still plenty upon plenty from our past photoshoots I haven't had a chance to show you.

2.)We look so festive in our Mexican attire, no?  I mean, no kidding Mel looks cute-her dress is already SOLD!  But I'm pretty sure the pink tunic/dress I'm wearing and the wedding dress Nikka is wearing are still up on DRV's etsy shop; so take a peek.

Dusty Rose put me in this wondefully gauzy 1970s Mexican Tent Tunic--complete with the most airy, breezy, and floaty ruffle sleeves I've ever put on.

It's so perfect belted if one insists upon reigning in the floaty billowy silhouette.

Or sassy and flirty when the natural drape of the garment is left to it's own devices.

So much fun, I just can't contain my facial exressions as I show you the very full hem---

ooooh swingy!

Imagine if you're a little on the petite/short end of the height scale, you could wear this as not only a tunic, but a short lil' dress too!

Ah, so many possibilities...and its PINK TOO!  Who loves Pink?  Um, THIS GIRL RIGHT HERE!
