Daily Wear: Periwinkle and Pearls

While I'm not a huge fan of summertime (the heat...puh-leaze! Ugh), I will admit I am a huge fan of the long days, hours of light, and the opportunity it allows for outfit shots after work (even when you have to work late like I do sometimes.)  Let's face it, wintertime this does not happen--and you find me indoors with boring photos.

Today, being around 8pm when I took my shots, I decided it was time I get back on my roof.  I realize not many people hang out up there during the weeknights, weekends-different story.  So I'm safe in my comfort zone for now to take photos up there--the weekends, um pretty sure I'll need a buddy with me so I don't look a-fool in front of large groups of partygoers.

I took a liking to this large Chase bank sign that's right next door.  I also liked the rusty stairs.  So this was today's chosen rooftop location.
The rooftop sign
It was a hot muggy one today, I didn't have time to iron a dress (as usual) so I had to go with my tried and true-blue jeans.  But with jeans encasing my legs like sausages on such a hot day I knew it was high-time I keep the top loose and light.
Thank goodness for that little Forever 21 excursion that sidetracked me on Friday evening.  On with the new cotton blouse.  So airy, breezy, flowy, and fun.  Very girly too-moreso than my usual.  And the color, its divine!  I just realized today how Periwinkle really made me look more "glowy", more colorful, more not to pale and bland.  I may need some more of this very shade--Periwinkle and Yellow-my new fave raves?
Periwinkle Please
I also was too lazy to switch the contents of my purse choice from Sunday back into a larger satchal of sorts.  So I needed to make sure my add-ons went OK with the brown shade of my purse.  No problem-I've got that covered.  I have the perfect pair of shoes when that rusty leather color is at hand.  The ever so awesomely tall Target shoes!!!!  Ah, sometimes you just really hit the jackpot with something from Target-these shoes are definitely this summer's jackpot.  They make me impossibly tall, they're easy to walk in, and they're not un-comfy at all!  My kinda shoe!

And just another shot of my roof--did I mention I love my roof?  Please friends-come over already!  Don't make me beg, but this roof is just begging you to come over.
(PS-I work right over there, behind that really tall building in the middle--that's the garment district.  Bonus points if you know what the building is.  Maybe if I snap a shot of it at night when its all lit up you'll know it.  Or, just guess--its really quite easy)

Daily Wear

This could be, any given Monday I've ever experienced:

Again, I pondered an outfit in my head, meticulously planning all the details, add-ons, and layers I could throw together in order to complete the look.  This is all part of my goal to one day get ready for work with ease--and planning an outfit in my head as I work through my daily "get-ready" routine is my first step at doing that.
Photobucket
When I plan an outfit in my head, I usually focus on one main item, then build around that.  And then as I physically put the outfit together, usually an item here or there doesn't work out, and an extra piece here or there ties it together.  (of course sometimes this method fails entirely and I'm left to throw on my trusty basics and head out.)

Today, it was a bit of both--a bit of it coming together, a bit of it not happening so well.

Take this jacket for instance (I'd been wanting to wear it for quite sometime now--those sleeves!), it was my main focal point.  And from there I had big plans--I was of course getting way beyond myself picturing this black velvet pencil skirt I have (honestly, if I wore something like that to work everyone would assume I was going on a job interview at some point in the day-haha!) and a fitted turtleneck sweater.

Yeah, not my usual.  So cast-off that pencil skirt, throw on my jeans, put it all together.
Nope.
Turtleneck too short w/jeans, so put on a tank underneath--
OK, good to go.

But in the end, something about the jacket was throwing me off-I think it was the length.

And as it turns out, what started as my main focus, was tossed aside to reside on my bed 'till I returned from work.  And instead I went with my black wool trench.

Funny how it all works out.  (Needless to say, in a better attempt to put myself together-I'm going to test out the "picking out the outfit the night before" method and see how that goes for the week.  In fact, I've already taken care of it for tomorrow).

Soooo....pretend I actually committed to wearing this jacket instead of my trench,

and this is what I would've mustered up for today:

I have to confess-I LOVE HALLOWEEN, and I really enjoy going to that store anytime of the year. However, I won't tell you what I bought because that will ruin the costume SURPRISE. I'll give you a hint-I've already got some mosaic chips from the craft store. Hmmmm........

It's starting to get chilly, FINALLY! Not that it was every excruciatingly hot this summer, but I do enjoy Fall. And I enjoy my fall clothes so much more than spring/summer.
I even got to bust out one of those many coats I mentioned a few posts ago when I came to the realization that I have an over abundance of material items.

Thank goodness for birthday gift cards. Just as I've almost made it midway through the month, or midway through my self imposed "Wallet-Lockdown" (which consists of me buying NO new clothing or material objects using money of my own for the entire month of October. With a tiny exception to this rule known as HALLOWEEN). Yes, I took my gift cards and a previous store credit and high-tailed it to Sephora after work.
I bought a few of my Bare Minerals essential products for everyday use, including the SPF 15 MATTE powder foundation...very excited to try that out; I usually just go for their regular stuff, haven't tried the "MATTE". And I got myself some lipstain, a new black sparkly eyeliner, and because of my b-day month being October, I scored a trio of lipglosses as my little birthday treat courtesy of Sephora.
Oh, and I had a 10% off coupon for reaching the ranks of Beauty Style Insiders, or something like that.
I walked away with two gift cards still completely in tact--YES! I can go back soon and buy more goodies at no cost to me. Thanks friends for the lovely gift cards, you're the best!!!

Today I pulled out a printed corduroy blazer that I've had for a few years now. It's a bit ridiculous that I have yet to give this up. First of all, I scored it for super cheap on the pathetic Old Navy sale racks. Second of all, it doesn't have a lapel, which is usually not one of my go-to details when it comes to a blazer. And thirdly, it's OLD NAVY! So why am I so stuck on this? I only wear it 1-2x a year if that!
I don't know what it is, maybe it's the print, maybe it's just that it actually fits ok for being some mass-marketed item (which believe me with an ill-proportioned body as my own, finding bulk consumer goods that fit decently can sometimes be a feat).
Whatever the case, it's what I chose to wear for the day--I was fine this morning, not so much the case after work, it was down right cold!

If I thought today was chilly after work, whatever shall I wear come Friday??? The high temp is only 49degrees! I'm a bit excited actually! Bring on the coats (now, which one to wear?)!!!!

Hello Monday.

I felt very "Roman Holiday"-esque all day long.  A bit demure, but not quite.
If only I had a Gregory Peck like man to tote me around on his scooter....

I have a very busy week in store:

-got my party invitations today, must start to address them immediately,
time is running out!!!  (see countdown on side bar)  (Oh, and if you're going to be
in NY come October....you might want to let me know as this promises to be the
party of the year!)

-Maybe "District 9" tomorrow with BF, maybe not....it's up in the air.

-Wednesday meeting UnoCosa at CocoaBar in Park Slope, should be exciting!!!

-Seeing "Julie and Julia" with my coworker on Thursday

-Then the weekend-yea!!!

On a side note, I was so delighted to see a letter for me in the mail.  It was from
my friend who ran away to South Africa (OK, she didn't run away, she went for a
very good, helpful cause).  It made me smile-I started thinking how far our friend-
ship has come.....I met her on craigslist probably 6yrs ago when I answered her ad
for at-home sewing lessons.
We have maybe only 3 garments to show for all she's learned, but she's become a nice
friend I think I'll stay in contact with for a long long time.
In addition to helping refugees, she's getting to experience some really cool stuff-and
she mentioned how rad the street-style is in South Africa; I can believe it....have you
ever checked out Jasna's awesome attire?  (Jasna is a master at layering, and has a rock
vibe going on....I definitly think she's cool)
But back to my sewing friend....I miss you!!!  Thanks for the snail mail, it was a big
highlight to my day!
