The Garrott Tee: Look #16-DIY Ventilation

I've got some more DIY up my sleeves this time around with Garrott Designs' "Without my Muse" tshirt!!!
And just in time for the hot hot heat!  Lets just say I've installed some built in ventilation, to keep cool thru the dog days of summer

You might recall the Garrott Tee started out slouchy with the size I chose.  And my first DIY with it was to cut the neck making it more of a "Flashdance" off-the-shoulder look:

After the first DIY, I then took to the sleeves and chopped those off for another look:

This time, I just went to town with my scissors!  Cuts, slashes, ties, more fitted in the front-completely ripped to shreds in the back:

Oh, and I chopped about 2" off the length at the bottom of the tee.

So, want to know just how I did this?  Probably not...but I'm going to tell you anyhow so you can get yoursellf all air-conditioned this summer too.

1. You'll need just 3 supplies: scissors (nice shears used to cut fabric, do not use paper scissors!), a marker, and a ruler.

2. Place ruler vertically from neckline down to hem.  I chose to make slits 1" apart from one another, therefore I marked 1" hash marks all the way down. (I started 2" down from neckline as you can see)

3. After marking my spacing all the way down to sweep, I then drew horizontal lines across the back of the tshirt.

4. Get ready to cut!  I found it easiest to pull up the shirt and create a little fold where hash marks were, this makes inserting the scissors easy.  I then proceeded to cut slits all the way across horizontal lines on the left half of the shirt.  I then went back and cut the other half on right side of shirt.

5. I tried the shirt on and thought it was too long, so I cut off the bottom 2-1/2" of the tshirt's length; this is a personal preference all your own.

6. Finally, I cut the top 2", right below neck, in half--I created a tiny little tie with these two sides, thus creating a more fitted looking front view than the tshirt originally had.  (Look back near beginning of this post and you'll see the little tie at center back neck that I'm talking about).

So there you have it...completely DIY'd and ready to go thru the hot summer days.  At this point, the shredded shirt really isn't appropriate for much more than casual attire; um FLIP-FLOPS!  (yeah get a good look now kids, me in flats...let alone flip flops???  Rare rare sight!  This happens about as often as 3 eclipses in one month--which is also happening this June, I know because I read my horoscope! LIBRA, lets here it for the creative artsy fartsy venus ruled sign!!!)

Sticky-Nickie

August 10, 2009:
Some might agree with me, this was the hottest, grossest, most humid day so far this summer!
Wearing to her usual workday locale:

*Black v-neck tee-Target
*Yellow a-line skirt-Express (like 4yrs ago)
*Red sash (from a vintage 70's blouse)-Thrift Store
*Black strappy wooden heeled sandals-Miss Sixty
*Red beaded necklace-Forever 21

Boo!
I'm what gives your children nightmares at night!
Really though, this is the best way I wash away the dirty grime from a hot NYC summer's day.
First I cleanse my face, then I put on this wonderfully cooling clay mask--you'd swear there's peppermint in it or something; really it's a magic concoction of other such plants and things.
Seriously, it makes a world of difference and feels so refreshing when you come home to an apartment that feels like an oven (no A.C. at my place).

I need to try skirts already

I'm really hoping tomorrow is back to being summertime weather, or early summer I should say.  I really am not a fan of summer, especially late July/August....but this summer I'm trying to be positive and I'm hoping to take advantage of all the great offerings a summer in NYC has.

On a similar note, last weekend was feeling like early summer....then Tuesday comes and BAM!  Back to being chilly.
So, now I'm ready to maybe try some of my summer clothes-give them a test run over these next few weekends (it's when I can really wear whatever, dress up or down, no one comments cause I'm only around me myself and I, and the boyfriend...give or take a few friends here and there).  I mean I can wear whatever to work, but at the same time, I would not feel work appropriate in some of my weekend attire either.  Not that the outfit to the left is all that work appropriate, it's pretty casual, but it's my usual uniform (it's easy and quick, good for work mornings because I never have enough time to get ready as I wish I did).

Today I wore:
-Army Green cotton zip-front jacket-Forever 21
-Pink silk sleeveless blouse, exposed zipper back-Forever 21
-Dark denim skinny jeans-Uniqlo
-Leaf applique leather shoes-Urban Outfitters.

Oh, but back to my boring weather banter....yes, I'm hoping it is kinda nice and summery tomorrow so i can maybe consider something besides my skinny jeans that I seem to LIVE IN nonstop.  Thank goodness I have several pairs that I love, but honestly.....I'm getting a little bored and think I should try some skirts and challenge myself a bit.
You see, skinny jeans and whatever top have become my quick, no thought-know it works, outfit.  I haven't really worn skirts in a long long time (maybe here or there, but no on a regular basis).  So yes, it will be a challenge.

I bought a new pink/black print skirt after work today-treated myself to a cheapie skirt since I stayed late on a FRIDAY!  Why not right?   So this new skirt will help me give the skirt wearing challenge a go.

Ugh, I should call it an early Friday evening and go to bed.  I have "big plans" for tomorrow; meaning it requires me to get up and do stuff before 4pm.
I must sew my landlord's curtains for her; I want to go to the Flea Market in Fort Greene as well.   I tend to dwindle away on teh internet SAturday mornings till afternoon, so we'll see just how far I get with my big plans.
