The Garrott Tee: Look #3-Weekend Warrior

IMG_2815
We're 3 weeks/3 looks deep into the Garrott Design Tshirt Challenge.
Ok its not a HUGE challenge, just a bit of a riddle of sorts--just how will I wear my tshirt differently this week from last week?  What can I do to keep it out of jeans, tshirt, tennis shoes territory?

This time around, I present to you (my signature clothing item of course-the cutoff shorts) what I call
"Weekend Warrior"
IMG_2821
IMG_2816IMG_2819
It was only a matter of time till I showed you all how I would pair the Garrott Tshirt up with my favorite bottoms--my white trash denim cut-offs
I once mentioned way back in September that these babies were being retired for the season...yeah right!  Who did I think I was, and whom did I think I was fooling?  Toss on some tights or leggings underneath and they're as good to go anywhere as I thought they were this summer.
(to which I laugh thinking of all the higher-brow establishments, and tons of lowbrow places, I wore them to as if both called for equal dress)

Cut-offs, with leggings in my case, add a little extra spunk and quirkiness to the Garrott Tee, especially great for a Sunday of errands, and dinner, and then a show.
(the dinner=high brow, the show=lowbrow...and I was just fine in both settings-I'm a chameleon like that).
IMG_2826
To add to the spunkiness of the shorts with the Garrott Tee,
I though it almost necessary to show you
some color...some pops of interest here and there
The last two looks were pale and mostly tones of grays and black with the exception of the blushy colored skirt of Look #1

Plus, on the weekends, why not get a little punchy with the bright tones?  The weekends are my time, I don't have to impress anyone but myself...therefore I wear what I like, not always what's "appropriate".  Sometimes too much color of different sorts can overwhelm at the office persay,
but weekends-nothing holds me back.

It's still a wee bit chilly considering its only February, so I went with a slouchly long cardigan-lightweight however and a bold shot of juicy goodness in the form of my Poppy/coach bag.  (it always manages to make any outfit pop...heh heh, maybe why its POPPY??? probably not.--but on a side note, I do like that I just said "heh heh" as if my name is Beavis-gah, can't wait for the return of Beavis and Butthead on MTV!)
IMG_2824
And on that note, I think I need to exit this blog.  I am all over the place, being spastic, writing whatever gibberish pops into my brain...seriously, why jump from "color" talk to "Beavis and Butthead"?
Adult ADD!

So kids, as always, I challenge you to style up a tshirt in an interesting way, or get the Garrott Tee (only $20) for yourself; show me how you'd do it up right.

Daily Wear: The Slouchy Factor

Ok, so let me keep my style crush (Erin Wasson) and I'll quietly and with pure defeat admit to myself that I am not of her caliber; not body type-not cool factor-not tall and model-y.

And that's that.

So now that I know I can not emulate her very well, just leave me be--let me have some of my more modest v-neck slouchy tops, let me make some spur of the moment cut-offs at 1:30am on a Friday night (see below), and let me wear lots of necklaces that don't really go together.  And I'll be ever-so happy w/myself.
Slouchy Saturday

*DIY cut-offs, Gap
*Black platform sandals, Topshop
*Various necklaces, Thrift store/H&M/My own creation

(I also think I might've had the auto focus thing messed up on my camera.  Huh what?  I probably hit it with my finger and it slid to manual--to which I cannot even begin to fathom how that needs to operate. So sorry about these not so crisp photos)
IMG_9969
By now, if you made it this far down, you're probably thinking, "WTF?  Where's the Weekend Rewind...I wanna know what you did this weekend...what your elixer of a cocktail choice was this weekend...and where's the token Weekend Rewind picture of Mel?".  Yeah, this is NOT going to be one of those fun Weekend Rewinds; my weekend was too tame for that.  One of the best parts of my weekend (besides the play I saw w/Mel) was the fact that I unlocked the "Brooklyn 4 Life" badge on Foursquare.  Hell yeah MotherF&%$ers!  Now you can clearly see why there's no Weekend Rewind.

Mainly, I just went shopping...A LOT.  So much so that I have to be honest with myself and admit that I am not going to wear the pleated tapered leg trousers I purchased at Topshop on Friday.  No no....and if I take them back, I can more than justify my other purchases.
I did "splurge" on Friday, within 45min at Topshop I was slapping down $$$$ like it was my job.  While they were having a HUGE sale (to which I scored these shoes above at a pretty insane good price--especially since I think i can walk miles in them they're really pretty comfortable--uh oh Jessica Simpson, sky high shoes-comfortable-and they're not yours!  Look out...because we all know I usually swear by the comfort of J.Simpson shoes.)

Ok, so yeah, let me take back those trousers, then I can make myself feel better about buying that beige blazer with the scrunched up sleeves, the shoes, the slouchy stuff from Uniqlo (oh and I got yet another skinny jean--duh I was in Uniqlo, and they were on sale....we all know I love my Uniqlo skinnies).

And nevermind the 2 dresses and 1 blouse I bought at Beacon's Closet when I went to P.slope to visit Mel.  I had a store voucher, so it was no cash out of my pocketbook--do love that place!

Then Sunday rolls around and I suppose I still didn't have enough material items in my possession. I found myself attempting to spend wholesome time in the park watching a baseball game.  (hence the boring outfit, I'm even wearing flats!)  Then a quick shower rolled thru town and I ran for cover...oh wow, how'd I end up taking shelter at Buffalo Exchange?  Hmmmm, peculiar isn't it?  No not really peculiar, very much something I'd do.  And then I walked outta that place with two really cute vintage dresses!  woot woot.

I'm going to try to wear all my new items within the next two weeks...because sometimes I just buy things to shop (I probably have some underlying pathetic issue going on inside that I try to supress and ignore with shopping; so far I don't know what the issue is--I'm just not surprised if its there.) and I find them hanging lifelessly in my closet months later having never been worn :(  (and then I start to feel REALLY guilty for throwing down $$$ right and left.)
IMG_0001
Wearing:
*Green tank, Target
*Same DIY cut-offs I made for myself on Friday night
*Bronze studded sandals, Kmart
(what? I went in there for cleaning supplies, and just saw them as I stolled to the escalator.  Impulse buy for sure considering I don't really do flat heels and who wears stuff from Kmart??) I do apparently because as I typed that I realize I'm wearing a pair of slippers from there)

So here's to hoping your weekends were fun, relaxing, and a good time.  Mine was just dandy, now its back to the Monday-Friday...grrrr.  Nite-nite!

Out of town: Poconos Style! Pt. 2

Tonight I bring you the 2nd half of my weekend getaway...second half being when I dressed like a Soccer-Mom with 2 kids spending the day at an amusement park.  Seriously!  I looked as if we were equipped for walking all over Six Flags (over St. Louis of course, because this is the one I grew up going to).  Scratch that--can I change my amusement park to Opryland, oh wait no its closed...Pretend I chose Dollywood to get my point across.  Yeah-Dollywood sounds about right.

Anyway, we were not at an amusement park, and I am not a soccer mom, I just happened to opt for a very practical/appropriate outfit for a vacation day spent doing vacation-y things.

Like....GOING TO BUSHKILL FALLS!
nickie-bear
And sometimes an avid wearer of heels needs to put on a pair of kicks in order to enjoy the great-outdoors.  And shorts and a t-shirt too!
nickie-falls2
My Outdoor Attire includes:
*White tshirt, Uniqlo
*Khaki shorts, Gap Outlet
*White tennis shoes, KEDS
*Printed Scarf, Old Navy
*Silver vintage owl, thrifted while in the Poconos
*Beige bag, Makowsky
*Black sunglasses, Kensie

nickie-falls5
Oh nature....Oh FRESH AIR!
waterfall2
Yeah...a bit too much fresh air.  While I thought the waterfall was great and all, there just happened to be a Fireworks Superstore right smack dab next to our hotel that was calling us back home.  We had to bust outta the vacation sightseeing thing and get back to the Buy-One-Get-One-Free firecracker spectacular!

Heck yeah!  We went the super explosive route...
bought us some BLACK SNAKES!
snakes-3
Somehow I think my hairstyle, the lighter, and the igniting of fireworks in pure daylight in a public space makes me look all the more white trash.  We're in the Poconos for goodness sakes...and I still didn't fit in :(
snakes-13

snakes-11
And is it wrong of me to think that this looks like a flaming charred terd?
snakes-5
Oh the Poconos...what a weekend getaway it was.  I think I'll go back.
For anyone else in the North Eastern seaboard, and/or the Ohio/Pennsylvania area, I would recommend a weekend excursion to this outdoor mountainous region.  The thrifting and flea markets alone were enough to make my trip a success...but throw in the motel bar w/$2 beers, the buy one get one free fireworks, and this scary doll I saw in a salon window...and I just had a darn successful vacation--soccer mom style and all!

By the way, I'm pretty certain the salon was called Bo-Tangles.  Awesome!

Weekend Rewind: June 12-13, 2010

Well well well...Look who it is!  Yep, in case you forgot what I looked like while I took a little bloggin' break, let me refresh your memory--ITS ME!
I'm Back-Muahhahahahahahha!

Since a lot of you read my gibberish, keep tabs on me in the social world of cyber-space, and all other ways you find me "interesting" , I think its only fair I share a little tidbit as to why I was away for a month.
-First things first, sad but true--longtime BF and I called it quits, and remain friends.  that's the way it should be and no one's crying, singing Roy Orbison tunes, or second guessing the decision; so we're doing fine.  (at least I hope so--you're fine right ex bf?)
-Second thing, I had to move out, find a new place, and restart my life.  (not easy when you've become accustomed to a certain lifestyle, and spending and shopping and spending as you please).  Well HELLO--wake-up call!  I might be wearing a lot more of the same outfits; but I'll try to keep it "fun" by making silly faces or winking at you or something lame like that-ok?  deal!
-Third, I moved to Williamsburg, where everyday is like a thrift store fashion show--so let's see what this does for me; or how much of an old-lady hipster I become.  YIKES!

And now you're caught up.  And I'm caught up.  And let's get down to it--how 'bout a Weekend Rewind????
I thought so!

Saturday-June 12, 2010
New stompin' ground
(This is not my front door, or even my street--so google map it all you want creepy stalkers.)

Ah Saturday...I chose to go with my little chambray number that always slightly reminds me of a mechanic's jumpsuit.  In fact, I always slightly wish I had a pants version/jumpsuit thingy like this so I could be more full-on auto mechanic.  I'd roll up the pant hem, wear some heels, I think it could be a look.

Oh, and this is also a dress I wore last summer, ONCE.  I had first started blogging and doing the Chictopia thing, and some old man on there felt the need to tell me my shoes did not go with the dress.  To each his own, but I will never forget his comments...they were not hurtful, but humorous, considering  who he was and his lack of even one outfit post for himself.  However, Mr., you've forever engraved your words into my mind-this dress will always make me reminisce.
IMG_9387
And I took out my new tote, gave it a whirl, a little go if you will.  I love it!  I think its fabulously cute.  You might remember a few posts back, I talked about how I wanted some Breton Stripes...and I came upon this bag on Etsy; and I couldn't resist.  Thanks to the ever so sweet ladies behind PeaceLovenPolkadots, they whipped this bag up for me in a new fabric they had, put an adjustable strap on it as per my request, and overall were just really nice people to do business with.  Most definitely you should check out their wide selection of this bag in a bunch of different fabrications.  We could all have one and dress alike!  Buy one now........DO IT!

And when in NYC on the weekend...one must dress for a day that will take them god knows where.  So let it be known that this little chambray dress got its fair share of wear.  It took me from 2pm to way after 2am.

Thanks to my little friend here, Mr. Sangria, we just kept getting more and more into the idea of going out!  Oh--looks like it's SUMMERTIME, because this is what I do in the summertime!
My friend, Sangria
Yum yum yum yummy yum!
me
And my other little friend, Ms. Idee_geniale of course.
Mel
And a whole lotta "FLAIR" going on at the table next to ours.  Seriously?  That drink is all tricked out with umbrellas--so much for being a man.
A lotta Flair in There!
I should tell you; this fruity drink place, its called Surf Bar (or something like that, I don't even know the name of the place, I could be making this up).  I've always gone in there with the hopes of being whisked away to some far off tropical local, all the while remaining in my little borough of Brooklyn.  Yep never fails...that place always makes me say, "we're on vacation".  They've got sand covering the floors, beachy vibes everywhere, and obviously fruity concoctions--its everything you need to make believe you're in Hawaii, not the concrete jungle of NY.

And that's where the day turned into night, we always lose track of time.  No time to go home and change, by the time we were finished with Sangria, well it was time for dinner.  We ate at SEA, to which I was informed (probably been informed of this in the past as well)was the restaurant from "Garden State" (although I chose not to remember much from that movie other than how much I really don't care for Zach Braff; heck I don't even know if I spelled his name right.)  Then dancin...tearing up the floor, cuttin' the rug, and a whole lotta me thinking I know how to do the mash potato. (sorry guys, unfortunately--or perhaps more fortunate for me--the camera did not come out to capture what I call "dancing")

IMG_9422
In true Weekend Rewind behavior, my Sundays are never quite as exciting as the previous day, right?  Completely right--its a day of rest people!

Although, I ventured out in search of a real grocery store in my new 'hood.  Found one...now I have some grub at home, thank goodness.
IMG_9421
I decided to keep it casual, but "put together", in terms of my Sunday attire.  I even flipped my hair out in hopes of looking like Farrah Fawcett.  Yeah-didn't really work out that way.  Of course, I was attempting that "easy, low-maintenance, cool" look that really takes way more time than I'd like to admit.  And it doesn't even come out right on me.  Whatever, again, that's what Sundays are for--to play dress-up and take too long to get ready for no reason at all.  (remember, I was going to the grocery store.  Why spend more than 15min getting ready for that? A question I will never be able to answer)
I pulled out a blouse I rarely ever wear.  I think its just a little more bare than I'm used to...but again, its SUMMERTIME!  I think its a cute shirt though, light and airy, so why not wear it once in a while?  Although no big loss if I never wear it again, I think I got it super cheap on the clearance racks at Old Navy.  (PS-I was probably in there buying fleece blankets, that's all I seem to buy there, I'm addicted)
Sunday in my dorm room
The outfit info--
*Blouse, Old Navy
*DIY cut-off shorts, Uniqlo (started out as high-waisted wide leg jeans)
*Cowboy Booties, Steve Madden

Unfortunately, the heavens broke on my walk back from the grocery, I got a bit rainsoaked, the hair got unruly, and I headed for the comforts of my tshirt.
So much for looking "put together".  Especially considering I later had to meet up with my old roomate to meet his new little baby (by the way, cute-well behaved lil' guy!  I also bought him some little Ralph Lauren onesies, which are just as cute as the baby himself!).  Ah well, lucky for me our favorite restaurant is pretty casual, shorts and a tshirt are completely acceptable.  Especially on a soggy day like today.  I hate humidity and rain, really puts a damper on the day for sure.
IMG_9423
I'd also like to take this moment to point out the obvious...
I'm in desperate need of a tan!  HOLY GHOST--look at those pasty whites called my legs.  YiKES

Ok, really, I need to get to bed.  Look for me to be back in my normal blogging habits now!  Until maybe tomorrow--goodnight!

"lowkey" weekend

Just FYI--My Weekend Rewind will be posted tomorrow...
For a "lowkey weekend" like I planned to have, I was actually surprisingly busy.

And now I'm off
--dinner, then BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN!!!!--
I'd "strap my arms 'cross his engines" anyday!.....
(Oh lookout BF, I'm not sure you signed up for this behavior when you presented me w/tickets)

Swoon swoon!!!!
