Weekend Rewind: April 24th-25th, 2011

Wow...how long as it been since I did a Weekend Rewind?  really, right?
Well I had tons of chipper stuff to talk about because my weekend was pretty fun and it was EASTER!  But then my world came crashing down at 10pm Sunday night...so for the next few weeks, while I may be blogging more (I've got lots of newfound free time, not my wish, but hey crap happens), I will probably also be a Debbie Downer; just bear with me.
Let me see what I can muster up for you guys...I had more pics of what I actually did this weekend, but I only feel like posting outfits at the moment; so maybe next time it'll be a more fun Weekend Rewind...for now, here we go:

Saturday-April. 23, 2011:

I had a day of errands, and dropping off my photography project and mounting hooks on the back so they'd be ready for my photo exhibition on Sunday...these past few weeks I've had hardly any time for anything because I enrolled in a photography class.  So you can imagine between work, at the time a boyfriend, and hoemwork from class well I was a busy lady.

Anyway, I've been dying to wear my Axl Rose tshirt more often and I realized for as much as I love it, I still had never shown you guys its awesomeness. 
I thought a rainy Saturday of errands was a good day to go "metal chick" with my attire.  And Axl brought the badass to my outfit.

After errands, I had all good intentions to go home and make food for Easter Brunch on SAturday.  Instead, as most of my friends (myself included) are easily seduced by the bottle; we went to a bar after errands.  From about 4:30 till the wee hours of Saturday night I was chugging brews.  I can hold my own, so its ok.

We went to a show, saw Hunx and his Punx (a fun band if I do say so myself), then more drinks at a local bar. I think I teetered home way too late, but I still got up at a decent hour on Easter to make my food for our friends' brunch.

It was a pretty fun night...I hadn't gone out to the bars like that in a while; I had actually been quite responsible and happy in my dometicated little life I managed to carve out for myself.  So out late with friends after so long of not going out, it was a welcome treat.  ANd I'm glad I had Axl along for the ride!

Sunday-April 24, 2011: 

HELLO EASTER!
I felt really springy and almost like an easter egg which would only be appropriate on such a day.  Today was the day of my friends' Easter Brunch, as well as my photography exhibition.  So I thought a cute little vintage frock of spring-like coloring would be ever-so delightful.

This is a dress I found at Beacon's Closet not too long ago.  It's got a slight weird stain on it but hey whatever...I'm not opposed to wearing stained clothing; who am I to be clean and classy right? ha
I love this dress actually...while wayyyyyyyyyy on the short side, it still fits me well and is the exact style and proportion I like in a vintage dress.  Easy and cute.

I also finally bought some nude patent leather heels as I had mentioned wanting a few weeks back.  I figured nude would be a great match for this dress; I think it worked.  And the heels, while I found almost impossible to walk in, look pretty great.  I just have to figure out how to meander about in these shoes..and if I can't walk in them, I doubt the average person can either considering I wear sky-high heels 95% of the time!

OK friends, hope you had a great weekend and a lovely easter.  Again I apologize if I act and sound like a bitter cold-hearted lady the next few weeks, but one day I'll be back to my chipper self.  Until then maybe I'll just put more efforts into my outfits, or maybe not--still haven't figured out how this whole upheavel of the heart will effect my outfit decisions, sometimes I can feel very uninspired and not caring when these things occur.  So it'll be interesting to say the least right?

The Garrott Tee: Look #3-Weekend Warrior

We're 3 weeks/3 looks deep into the Garrott Design Tshirt Challenge.

Ok its not a HUGE challenge, just a bit of a riddle of sorts--just how will I wear my tshirt differently this week from last week?  What can I do to keep it out of jeans, tshirt, tennis shoes territory?

This time around, I present to you (my signature clothing item of course-the cutoff shorts) what I call

"Weekend Warrior"

It was only a matter of time till I showed you all how I would pair the Garrott Tshirt up with my favorite bottoms--my white trash denim cut-offs. 

I once mentioned way back in September that these babies were being retired for the season...yeah right!  Who did I think I was, and whom did I think I was fooling?  Toss on some tights or leggings underneath and they're as good to go anywhere as I thought they were this summer.

(to which I laugh thinking of all the higher-brow establishments, and tons of lowbrow places, I wore them to as if both called for equal dress)

Cut-offs, with leggings in my case, add a little extra spunk and quirkiness to the Garrott Tee, especially great for a Sunday of errands, and dinner, and then a show.

(the dinner=high brow, the show=lowbrow...and I was just fine in both settings-I'm a chameleon like that).

To add to the spunkiness of the shorts with the Garrott Tee,

I though it almost necessary to show you

some color...some pops of interest here and there. 

The last two looks were pale and mostly tones of grays and black with the exception of the blushy colored skirt of Look #1

Plus, on the weekends, why not get a little punchy with the bright tones?  The weekends are my time, I don't have to impress anyone but myself...therefore I wear what I like, not always what's "appropriate".  Sometimes too much color of different sorts can overwhelm at the office persay,

but weekends-nothing holds me back.

It's still a wee bit chilly considering its only February, so I went with a slouchly long cardigan-lightweight however and a bold shot of juicy goodness in the form of my Poppy/coach bag.  (it always manages to make any outfit pop...heh heh, maybe why its POPPY??? probably not.--but on a side note, I do like that I just said "heh heh" as if my name is Beavis-gah, can't wait for the return of Beavis and Butthead on MTV!)

And on that note, I think I need to exit this blog.  I am all over the place, being spastic, writing whatever gibberish pops into my brain...seriously, why jump from "color" talk to "Beavis and Butthead"?

Daily Wear: Another Laundry Day

Hey-Hey, Happy Sunday Evening! (that's me waving to you all!)

Sorry for my lack of posts, and even bigger lack of my ever so exciting "Weekend Rewinds", but lately I've been either away, or my friend(s) have been away--leaving me to do a lot on my own. Meaning such activities as laundry (as was the case today), cleaning (as was the case all day yesterday), and finding myself curled up sorta stuck in the back of my closet (yesterday evening when I tried to organize my shoes but couldn't get to the far depths of my closet unless I fully climbed into the cavernous space). So none of it really proved necessary to get all fashionably "cute" if you know what I mean.

If you don't know what I mean, that's my nice way of telling you I did not step out of my PJs once yesterday--I went to bed on Saturday night wearing the exact same thing I woke up in. EEWWWW!

So yeah, like I said...not fashionable.

Today I stepped outside of my PJs and outside into the real world. BORING, it was just to trek my 3 week pile-up of laundry to the laundromat. I despise doing laundry, but there was no way I could let it go any longer! YIKES.

To grace the employees of the laundromat (they dislike me, they whisper and giggle and look at me and my BF when we do anything-like even when we open the dryer door, it sets them into a frenzy of gibberish-talk and laughter and beady eyes aimed in our direction...WTF) I chose to wear:

Oh, and because I spent my entire Saturday organizing my closet, arranging my shoe selection, and pulling out mounds and mounds of clothing I no longer wear...that just means more goodies over at Swappy Seconds.

Tonight I posted two pairs of shoes:

-Swap #5-Vintage metallic silver shoe,

-and Swap #6-Patent Leather maryjanes.

-Later this week I'll have a pristine pair of BCBG shoes up for grabs--sadly I ran out of time to get them up there tonight.

Happy Weekend, or whatever remains...it's officially Monday on the east coast--clock says, "12:01am", I say, "time for bed!"

Daily Wear: Goodbye Fall/Winter

Brrr....kinda chilly here in NYC today. So much for it almost being April.

I had laundry on my list of "things-to-do", so with the weather and my task in mind I kept it casual. I actually used today as an opportunity to get in one last Fall-ish outfit before I switch out my closet's wardrobe.

(for those not living in small cramped spaces, A.K.A. NYC, you may not be familiar with the biannual practice of "rotating the closet". There's so little space that the opposite season's wardrobe has to be packed away in suitcases, boxes, etc and hid in any space it will fit as there's hardly any closet space whatsoever--and yes there's a tendancy for it to cramp your style).

I honestly don't know where I was going with this outfit; I put on jeans and a t-shirt as is my usual for laundry day. But then I realized it was cold outside, so I reached for my boyfriend's vintage flannel-he never wears it so why not let me?

And I knew I wanted to wear one of my bomber jackets-because I love to wear them! They are soooo perfectly matched to my personality. They take any outfit I wear and make it suitable for me, completely regardless of whatever I wear beneath.

So I paired it all up, and noticed I looked a bit like a lumberjack. YIKES!

Even though it was just laundry day, I certainly was not down with the clothing overwhelming me with its bulky size.

On with the belt!

Today is probably the last day you'll see me in such a fall-ish outfit, for a while at least. I'm looking forward to the warmer temps, the sunshine, and the dog days of summer

(did you get that? When do I like the dog days of summer?? I'm such an autumn lover, I can't believe I just said I'm ready for summer)

I'm not saying I'll do away with all my fall/winter items just yet, but I will most definitely be incorporating more and more spring-esque pieces into the mix.

So I think Tuesday (because I won't be working-its Passover! Wooo, no work, and I'm not Jewish--FREE DAY OFF FOR ME!)

I will rotate my wardrobe, dig out the old spring/summer and put away the fall/winter.

(which means, I'll have a bajillion items to rid my life of--which leads me to a little surprise venture I'll be telling you all about in the near future)

Chilly weather be damned, it's almost freakin April...that's why I'm gonna rotate the closet.

Weekend Rewind: November 13th-15th, 2009

I had a pretty laid back weekend. How was yours?

Today was the first day I did NOT wear pajamas in what would've been 1 full week!

No, no, I wore pajamas to sleep in of course--I meant that it's the first day I wore regular clothes for day wear.

I mean, for the past week I didn't even see the light of day, just spent it in bed resting and being sick. And as I began to feel better, I had to play catch-up w/all the things I didn't get to do at work. Lucky for me, BF stopped by work to pick up some of my things so I could do some homework.

And that's exactly how I spent Friday and Saturday...doing homework, in PJs.

Homework for me consists of sketches, sketches, and more sketches--in total I did about 40.

That's more than I get done in a week of being at work!

(You know how work goes, it's a whole different ball game actually BEING IN THE OFFICE)

And as sad as you all are at this, I will not be posting Friday and Saturday outfits. Adidas pants and an Obama t-shirt (thanks Kris!!!)do not qualify as an outfit attempt--not considering I passed out in that exact same outfit 2 nights in a row. Yikes!

And finally, on Sunday (November 15th, 2009), I got to leave the house!

I got reacquainted with the everyday world and the civilian life within....

OH HAPPY DAY!!!

(I cannot even begin to tell you how refreshing and nice it felt to be back to normal and out in the real world again).

So I felt like putting on a dress!

Being a little girly...

Getting back into the swing of things with my outfits and all.

As I was getting ready, I got it stuck in my head that I wanted to wear one of my vintage dresses. In fact, I thought a vintage dress and my new Docs would be fun.

But somehow, that idea morphed into this....while the dress looks vintage inspired (maybe the print and shape), sadly nothing about this outfit is vintage at all.

And where are those Dr. Martens?

Side Note: I'm currently in the midst of a new bedroom project--I don't want to give it away, but these stars are definitely the first step in making my little dresser/vanity area pure bliss. They were exactly what I was searching for....you know when you have an idea in your head, and then you find THEE item you need and it all comes together from there? Yeah, that what these stars are doing for me.

Step 2 of project--going to Anthropologie for a little somethin' somethin'; ouch to the credit card!

Alright everyone...it's my first day back to work tomorrow after a week hiatus, so I need to hit the sack. Hope you had a great weekend!

Woah Oh-Oh-Oh, Sweet T-shirt O' Mine,

Exactly my feelings toward this t-shirt.  This t-shirt and I go back a long way, we've got history...even before I owned the t-shirt.

I grew up loving GNR, and I still do.  And hands-up,

Now, believe it or not, this pretty gem of a vintage concert tee was bought for a whopping $0.25!  Yet another reason I love The Village Thrift in Ohio (Cuyahoga Falls location).  It was actually an XXL, so I saw no reason to leave it hanging on the rack-quickly I snagged it before someone else's greedy grubby mitts could take it.   Being a fashion girl at the time (this was back in college), it was no problem to whittle it down, resize it, and make it my own.  And Voila!  Seven years later and I love it dearly still!

I did laundry today, not exciting.  Yet, all the while I couldn't help but feel like I should be back home at our annual summertime

"Thunder on the Ohio"

--I do recall it happens every August. It's a hydroplane race on the Ohio River in Evansville, IN for any of you not familiar.  And basically, this outfit is the typical uniform of Southern Indiana folk at such an event.  Just insert a Budweiser in one hand, and a cigarette in the other and I'd fit right in.  

Ironically enough, I spoke to my parents today, and my father proceeded to tell me that "Thunder" (nickname for said event)was happening as we spoke!  

Maybe "Thunder" and I were unconsciously channelling eachother.  I dressed the part, and Thunder entered my thoughts.  Who knows?

Back in the day (college years), I stupidly thought studs made everything so much better.  I proceeded to take action, studding away at this tee.  Since then, many of the studs have fallen off, leaving holes as permanent reminders of my "BEDAZZLED DAYS" of yore.  I wish it were possible that all these studs could come out, leaving no holes.  Oh how stupid young kids can be, why did I think studs were a good idea?  

Ooopsie-worst photo EVER!  I must've been walking or moving around since I can't seem to stand still while my self-timer counts down.  Sorry folks.   But it's a NECESSITY that I show you the back view too.

For such a rainy Sunday, this vintage rainbow of a dress was a bit of sunshine on a clouded dark day.

Luckily the rain quit, and I didn't get drenched on my Sunday trip to Target and Buffalo Wild Wings.  I think this dress is perfect for a little BF/GF errand running and dinner.

And happy day, the sun came out to play!

Oh, but the dress...yes yes.  It's another one of those gems I got on that vacation out to LA a few years back.  I just couldn't believe all the wonderful finds I got on that trip.  I could really go back anytime, seriously.....anyone want to go?

Melrose is just a mecca of cool vintage stores, some so overstuffed with goods it's majorly overwhelming.  But clearly it was nothing I couldn't handle since I came home that vacation with about 3weeks worth of new vintage goodies!

I remember my friends out there telling me where to go so I could get my "shop on"; and then they followed up those suggestions by telling me that things weren't really cheap, and that I might not be willing to spend the money that the vintage stores are asking out there.  They must've never stepped foot into a vintage store in NYC where everything I could find at the thrift stores in ohio for $1.00 become $80!  Just saying, they were obviously unaware at this point what I deem "a Steal!"

Well let me just tell you, I was in shock at these prices out in Hollywood....shock at how affordable it all was!  Everything was like Beacon's Closet prices, and that's fine by me considering this is NOT the midwest.

to go back out there.

My asymmetrical haircut/mullet is overgrown, but having a shorter side works really well for an embellished headband as I plopped on today.

And could this dress have been a better match for my Blue pedi I got the other day?

I think not.

And now it's time to retire for the evening.  Off to watch a movie (a scary movie "Haunting in Conneticut" because that's the way I roll-give me something about ghosts, demons, real-life events, all before I fall asleep, and that's what "sweet dreams" are made of....eek!), then back to the daily grind of my 5day work week :( boo!
