Weekend Rewind: June 19-20th, 2010

A quick lil' Weekend Rewind for you all--just outfits this time around, no picture taking to be had this weekend.  Not to say I didn't have a fun weekend, I was just on the go a lot, no time to stop and snap shots, especially not outside.  Sorry, maybe next time.

Saturday-June 19, 2010:

Slept through my 10:00am alarm maybe because I went out to The Bellhouse on Friday to meet up with Mel and our lil' blogger buddy from Nashville, AlysonIsNeat.  Maybe it's just because I was tired, maybe it was a whole lotta reasons...a whole lotta maybes.
None the less, I already had this outfit planned in my mind from the day before, so I threw it on in a jiffy--phew, because I had to take 3 trains to get to my destination and I was really afraid of being mega-late.  It really helped that I knew I wanted to wear this for my Saturday hair appointment on the Upper West Side.  (Now for the laugh-worthy part: My hair appt. wasn't until 2pm, so why am I worried about being late with an alarm set for 10:00am.  I promise I do not really need 4 hours to get ready).

I imagine you've all dressed the part before, for the area you're going to visit, no?  I don't know why, but anything on the Upper skirts of Manhattan always makes me feel like doing it up a little more classy, a little more put-together if you will.
And a hair appointment at an Aveda Salon is no reason to look like a slob, right?  RIGHT.  That's "classy" stuff I tell ya.

The shorts have Gold buttons, sailor-style, on a front panel--only now do I realize that they're not visible since my shirt seems to be covering them.  I'm just throwing out that tid-bit of info because it dictated my jewelry decision for the day.  Gold buttons=Gold Jewelry, or mostly.

I chose my current favorite: the one from Clydesrebirth's ebay score (she won it for me then I bought it from her...yippee).  I think I mention it last week; but yeah its my current obsession in the treasure trove known as my owl collection.  I like him, I think he hangs on the perfect length of a chain.

Sunday-June 20, 2010:

Today I spent with myself.  I used the late morning/early afternoon organizing my shelves.  (still unpacking a bit, figuring out space, and rearranging).  I've gotten most everything unpacked, just gotta bring out the sewing machine and serger, put them in their new little designated areas of my sewing station/desk, and BAM!  I'm officially done unpacking.  Next up, locating the ladder I used last week so I can attempt to lift things over my head and into the storage area (note to self: this will not be easy because you're a lazy bum that never works out and has no upper body strength whatsoever; lest you have forgotten this silly!)

I then showered, did my new hair (I like having freshly trimmed hair, don't you?)-it looks like it did about 2 months ago at this time, so don't think it's a brand new style--its not. And again, I already had this outfit planned in my head from the week before.  I kinda was blessed this weekend in that I already knew the two outfits I would wear for the weekend.  Funny, both are palates of gray...then again a good majority of my wardrobe is based around Black, White, and Gray--its a winning color scheme, what can I say?
After my daily "get-ready" routine went down, I was out the door.  I treated myself to a mani/pedi of hot pink goodness at my new nail place called "Pretty Hot Nail".  I just like the name!  It's hilarious.
There's 3 nail places within 1-2 doors of my new location, but I stick with Pretty Hot Nail because the lady was so nice to me the first time I was in there, and now this is the second time and she remembered me and every little tidbit of my nail preferences.  Maybe its the snaggle nail on my right 3rd toe that makes her remember me because I refuse to have it cut, file only please (damn shoes I wear, it's ruined my 3rd toenail on my right foot because the toe is too long for most shoes, and it hurts sometimes....GROSS right?  sorry, I hate feet too!  It doesn't help that my toes are the length of a 12yr old's fingers...ok exaggeration but they're pretty freakin creepily long.  And I have GIANT big toes to top it all off).  Anyway, yeah...so Pretty Hot Nail.  I'll tell you what's pretty hot--getting a mani/pedi for $16!!!!  Most places here are already pretty cheap compared to where I grew up, but on the weekends most places here will also up their price.  Oh no, not Pretty Hot Nail--and if they are "upping" the price, well I didn't notice, I'll take their price!

Weekend Rewind: August 14-16th, 2009

Let's start off the weekend recap with what I chose when I woke up,

Friday Morning:

Although most of my workday dresses are easy like this, and would emit a bit of pulled-togetherness, we all know I'm just really 

"PUTTING THE 'ASS' IN CLASS!

And while my personality stays true to that saying, it never hurts to at least look the part of an organized work-woman...that would be why I have all these little dresses you've seen throughout the summer as my work wardrobe staple.

The fabric vendors, buyers, etc that I encounter everyday will never know the real me...it never hurts to pull the wool over their eyes like that.

After work, I treated myself to a mani/pedi as my cuticles were in some serious need of help.  I thought I just got this issue taken care of like two weeks ago.  Whatever I've been up to, maybe all the hand sewing, beading, and pulling out staples from paperwork didn't really help the situation, but I was in desperate need to get myself back in tip-top shape.

As I may or may not have mentioned before, I'm sick of summertime.  While it's still so freakin' hot outside, there's not much you can do in terms of throwing oneself full fledged into FALL when the temps are till up there.  Except in the case of NAILS.

Choosing a nail polish shade in a new Fall color is one way to wave an early goodbye to summer, and usher in the well desired crisper cool days of Autumn.

I was DYING to test out my new Sephora/O.P.I. color:

DARKROOM.

It's a lovely inky dark FOREST GREEN with a look of almost BLACK.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for anything super dark like this!

And it's a welcome change to everyone's fall favorite: Lincoln Park After Dark.

I rushed home from Mani/Pedi fun, to throw on some new clothes, take care of my ratty hair by opting for a side ponytail and heading out to meet my BF and former roomate at our local haunt.

Saturday,

Let's just say I walked all over Brooklyn in this exact outfit.  And my 15 years of high-heel wearing came in handy.

Especially when Mel and I forgot the G train is so short, and had to run half the length of the subway station before the doors slid closed.  I'm sure it was a sight to the other passengers, but the 4-1/2" heels had nothing on me!

When I say we walked all over, we indeed went far.  

-From 5th Ave in Park Slope, to Atlantic Ave, To Court Street in Carroll Gardens. 

-Then back to Park Slope on the already mentioned G train.

-Then down 7th Ave, turned and walked to 5th Ave., then a few more block until we decided on a restaurant.

Of course there was shopping in between, there were birthday presents for the BFF to be bought.

Oh and a little Beacon's Closet shopping for myself-scored a cute little 70s tunic, a little girl looking vintage dress, and a sweet 80s Jordache top.  All perfect for October weather, another reason I'm soooooo tired of stupid summer already.  C'mon a girl wants to wear her new Fall threads--BADLY!

Now today is Sunday, sadly my weekend is coming to an end.  

Yet, I have not gotten up and dressed for the day.  I have to clean a bit, then I'll prepare myself for an awesome night of bowling at Melody Lanes in Sunset Park.

It's become our Sunday Night Thing!

So while I have no clue what the day has in store for me, or what clothing I may choose, if bowling turns out to be anything like last Sunday, then I have no doubt it will be great:

For such a rainy Sunday, this vintage rainbow of a dress was a bit of sunshine on a clouded dark day.

Luckily the rain quit, and I didn't get drenched on my Sunday trip to Target and Buffalo Wild Wings.  I think this dress is perfect for a little BF/GF errand running and dinner.

And happy day, the sun came out to play!

Oh, but the dress...yes yes.  It's another one of those gems I got on that vacation out to LA a few years back.  I just couldn't believe all the wonderful finds I got on that trip.  I could really go back anytime, seriously.....anyone want to go?

Melrose is just a mecca of cool vintage stores, some so overstuffed with goods it's majorly overwhelming.  But clearly it was nothing I couldn't handle since I came home that vacation with about 3weeks worth of new vintage goodies!

I remember my friends out there telling me where to go so I could get my "shop on"; and then they followed up those suggestions by telling me that things weren't really cheap, and that I might not be willing to spend the money that the vintage stores are asking out there.  They must've never stepped foot into a vintage store in NYC where everything I could find at the thrift stores in ohio for $1.00 become $80!  Just saying, they were obviously unaware at this point what I deem "a Steal!"

Well let me just tell you, I was in shock at these prices out in Hollywood....shock at how affordable it all was!  Everything was like Beacon's Closet prices, and that's fine by me considering this is NOT the midwest.

to go back out there.

My asymmetrical haircut/mullet is overgrown, but having a shorter side works really well for an embellished headband as I plopped on today.

And could this dress have been a better match for my Blue pedi I got the other day?

I think not.

And now it's time to retire for the evening.  Off to watch a movie (a scary movie "Haunting in Conneticut" because that's the way I roll-give me something about ghosts, demons, real-life events, all before I fall asleep, and that's what "sweet dreams" are made of....eek!), then back to the daily grind of my 5day work week :( boo!

Mani-Pedi Wednesday

I've been working myself hard these past few months, and I never have proper time for self maintenance; such as keeping up on my mani/pedi.

I used to never get my nails done, why pay when you can do it yourself?  Now, I work hard enough to be able to treat myself to such a self indulgent luxury once in a while.  And since I left work at a decent time today, I took my aching feet straight to the nice place in my 'hood (they also give great massages, and yes I went for the 10min massage too)

Now, I assure you I do not go the classy route with acrylic tips (or whatever you fancy ladies get), french manicures, etc.  Oh no no, I like to take the "street cred" route, and I feel exceptionally proud of my choices when the brooklyn girls with long-ass nails and crazy artwork give me props.

Today I was tempted by the brand new bottle the nail girl put out as I surveyed their offerings.  And the deal was done.

Once it starts to chip, I've got big plans to use my silver polish pen and give myself a blue/silver french manicure.

Funny how I tend to choose simple kinda classic-like pieces for the weekday outfits isn't it?  The nails and the threads just don't match-then again that's the way I like it.

No worries, I know my polish choice will compliment my weekend get-up just fine....as we've seen, that's when I get a little more adventurous with my clothing choices.

Today was a horrible, awful day outside.  Not nice to do anything.  But perfect for me to go get a mani/pedi which was long overdue.  I chose an OPI coral color, forgot the name (they always have such clever names too...shoot!).  I rather quite like the color, so I'm satisfied.  I also like the place I went to, it's fairly new, pretty and clean looking inside...I was a little worried what the prices were like.  But in the end, it worked out to be exactly what I pay when I go after work in midtown.  I get longer better massages at this new place so I am SOLD, and will go there more often.

I do not wear flip-flops on a regular basis, just so you know.  It's such a boring shoe, no matter how comfortable they may be.  Flip-flops are not OK.  I was just getting a pedicure so it's the normal thing to slip on your feet.

The rest of my saturday was spent at the grocery store, watching a movie on the IFC channel, and then here buying nonsense on Drugstore.com.  Now, currently looking at things I certainly do not need to buy on ebay (although it's tempting, see for yourself: BustownModern).

Oh, last night BF and I went to the movies at the theater down the street.  We saw, "The Hangover", hilarious!  Definitly a laughable time.  So funny.

Ok, I'm out....watching SNL, Alec Baldwin is hosting, should be good. (I am sure it's a rerun, what do I care, I haven't seen it)
