Saturday Swap Meet

As most of my readers saw, I hosted a clothing swap on my rooftop (with the help of my more hostess-skilled buddy, Mel...because as you guessed, I'm only good for cracking open the beer and making you laugh).  It turned out to be a success...before most of the girls arrived, between four of us we had already managed to take up about 1/4 of my gigantic rooftop.

There were my usual friends and partners in crime in attendance (Bridget above, Mel and Maresa below)
IMG_0730
And new faces and new friends--such as Grace, over at BlueBerryBike
IMG_0759
And Ashley over at FreeHoney and her friend Jamie.
IMG_0762
and the ever-so-sweet Sarah--her's Tumblr blog is HERE

And back to one of my regular girl pals, Nikka-AKA: Showgirl Godzilla

Lots of rooting, sifting, trying on...but everyone came out a winner I think.  I believe everyone found something to take home.

Bridget scored one of my very first day dresses I designed at Alberto Makali when the line first debuted a few years back--never worn!  Can't go wrong with that...Enjoy it Bridget!

Oh and hmmmm...that thing called my "Daily Wear".  Well let's see....I had all intention to wear my cut-offs, because it was Saturday afternoon.  What else have you seen me wear on a weekend?  (I've kinda decided to wholeheartedly embrace shorts this summer because in the past I rarely wore them...well now they've become way too much my uniform)
Mel informed me the night before of her ensemble she was wearing, and quickly I started to feel very "not dressed up enough" when I thought of my diy cut-offs...YIKES!  I think I was assuming it was at my house and therefore I could do as I please (and yes, its true, I could do as I please, but I thought I'd spiff it up a bit more too after she mentioned her outfit).
IMG_0733
I immediately scanned thru my dress section of my closet (yes I like to keep things organized like that--everything has its place, and everything MUST remain in its color coded place or else I get all batty and crazy) and BAM!  It hit me that the swap was the PERFECT opportunity to wear the vintage maxi dress I had gotted about 3years ago out in LA.  I'd been dying to wear it to a pool party I hosted ever since I put it on out west.  Standing in the dressing room I remember thinking how amazing it would be if I could host that pool party...ah, but I don't own a pool, never have.
Soooooooooooo, the only other time I've even remotely worn this outside of my bedroom was the one time last summer when I decided to start showing you some of my vintage outfits I just keep in my closet...essentially  the last time I wore it was me just playing dress-up in a thing I like to call "Vintage View"
IMG_0739
Yep, A clothing Swap at chez moi is theeeee SUPERB spot for me to actually wear WEAR this.  Not just for a little twirl around my former backyard.  I thought it was quite a delight...even if my back got incredibly burned as I baked like a hot potato at the snack table (I think I ate more than swapped).

And how appropriate is this little street sign?  Although I'm pretty sure that's not the way to Los Angeles...just sayin'

Wild as a Mink's: SWAPPY SECONDS

SWAPPYSECONDS
My Swap-Shop, Swappy Seconds, is officially up-and-running.
I promise after this not to post things both here and there; I'll just make a small mention here when new items are posted.

But for now-forgive the duplicity?? I'm just a little giddy that I have it all set up.
And after not wearing these vests like EVER (they don't fit me ok?), I kinda like the way I styled them up and I sort of wish they weren't so small on me. Aarrgh.

But alas all you mini-girls out there, you can swap these out for something you already own....interested?

I've also got two jewelry lots of misc. earrings up on the site too.

Regardless, check it out and tell me what you think-what you don't think will work, what you like, etc. I am open to suggestions and I welcome ideas.

Weekend Rewind: November 20th-22nd, 2009

The Weekend draws to an end, and I had yet another Low-Key Weekend--and I'm rather quite liking it just that way.

Since I got that new dress from the Kensie Party it had been infiltrating my thoughts for the past few days.

You know when you get a new item of clothing you JUST CAN'T WAIT TO WEAR IT!?!

That was the case with this dress; but as I mentioned before it was a bit too tight for my liking. So, in my head I'd been playing around w/different ideas, thoughts on how to style it up, and just how I could get around this snug-fit factor.
It all came together for me, and thank goodnes, because I did not have all that much time to dilly-dally around considering I told Mel I'd meet her at 9:00pm. (I am notoriously LATE everywhere I go, everytime I make plans, so I wanted to push myself to be ON TIME for once!)
Thankfully, the quick idea to throw on a v-neck sweater gave me the extra coverage I needed in order to feel at ease. But, the dress has a turtleneck detail, and with a v-neck sweater, well it was a bit to reminiscent of 7th grade school pictures
Not to worry, that's when a jacket becomes your best friend-the boyfriend blazer brought the outfit into the NOW. I threw on a watch (which nevermind the battery was dead and it stayed on 8:25pm all night) and my vintage owl necklace and I was out the door!

I met Mel (might I add that I arrived early!) at a new-ish bar in our neighboring neighborhood, Windsor Terrace. The bar was called Double Windsor. Not a bad place at all, I was rather pleased with the crowd, the service, and the ambience--therefore, I think I can manage to return there next time I don't want to stray too far from home (for what surely becomes a "low-key" weekend).

And then we called it a night and I was in my bed, all warm and cozy, by a whopping 12:30am  (Old Lady on a Friday Nite Alert!!!).

Saturday, 11/21/09:
Photobucket
Wearing: (a lot of stuff!)
*Black faux leather bomber jacket-H&M
*Black wool scarf-Target
*Red satin print dress-To the Max
*Black jersey turtleneck-Thrift Store
*Black opaque tights-HUE
*Black lace knee-high socks-unknown
*Black eyelet leather boots-Dr. Martens
*Brown faux leather satchel-Target
*Gold vintage cameo necklace-Thrift Store
*Gold multi-chain necklace-Forever 21

I met up with Mel again.  We went to the Score!-PopUp Swap to drop off some of our unwanted clothing in hopes of swapping it out for something else.

I took that coat I promised to donate to a coat drive back during my "Intervention Posts", as well as a never-before-worn Alberto Makali dress (quite nice of me- It was a beautiful teal wool, and quality too!). In the end, all I walked away with was a gray zip-up Banana Republic sweater, a burlap tote, and a pin. (nothing I needed, just something I felt like taking away considering I donated 2 items of much better quality than the majority of the cast-offs at hand. Yes, I'm greedy!)

I think the highlight of our Saturday came in the form of the impromptu photo-shoot we played around with after discovering "The Wrong Side of the Tracks" (as I like to call it)--or just an abandoned caboose on some overgrown train tracks.

And speaking of "New Items of Clothing" (as mentioned regarding Friday's outfit), did you notice I FINALLY WORE MY new-ish DOC MARTENS?

I think I've determined it's best to wear them with my short dresses. That way, I can get over the fact that I'm wearing FLATS (something I'm sooooo not used to), while combatting the issue of me feeling "stumpy" because I don't have my usual 3-4"+ height to rely on. Any ideas on how else I should wear them?
I've tried skinny jeans, but yeah--STUMPY!

Wearing:  (the pajama look)
*Black star-print hoodie-H&M
*Gray v-neck tshirt-Target
*Black scottie-dog print flannel shorts-Old Navy
*Brown booties-Target

Wowzas!  EEK!   Aaaaaah.....SCARY!
What's worse?  That I've done nothing all day long, skipped laundry, or the fact that I snapped this pic this morning, and

now it's 8:00pm and I'm wearing exactly the same thing!

 Ewwww...I'm a skeeze bag today!

Hope you all had a great weekend!
